Coupon Nirvana
Did you buy yourself an Entertainment Book this year? No? Why wouldn’t you—they’re filled with coupons for your local area to use on almost everything. Hotels, movie theaters, food, services… you name it, it’s probably in there.
Oh, well. Procrastination sometimes pays off, as we’ve learned in the past. Today, May 11th, 2010 Entertainment Books are just $12 each with free shipping, no matter which book you buy. This is a particularly good deal for those of you in the larger metro areas, where the book is a whopper and is usually lot more expensive.
And yes, they’d be a nice teacher gift, too. But hurry—in about fifteen hours, this deal is going to disappear.
Peace of mind
Do you own a fire safe? Lord willing, none of us will experience a flood or fire and the heartbreak of losing items to that sort of devastation, but everyone should have at least a small safe in which to store important documents. To my mind, it’s not even so much to protect them in the event of catastrophe—it’s just a good way to make sure I know where that stuff is!
Ours contains our marriage license and passports, the kids’ birth certificates, social security cards, and vaccination records, plus various other important things.
And sure, you could get a safe deposit box at the bank, but that’s not only expensive, it can be a hassle when you want to retrieve something. (Although it’s a better option if you have a lot of items to protect which you won’t need all that often.)
For home use, check out one of these: Amazon has the First Alert .62 cubic foot File Chest available for $58 shipped. That’s the one I own, and I think I paid about $75 for mine. The real bargain here is the free shipping, because that puppy weighs a whopping 42 pounds! (Yes, I lugged mine home from the store, years ago. Still bitter.)
Alternatively, if you don’t have much to protect (and/or if you’re short on space), the First Alert .19 cubic foot chest is currently just $24, and ships for free with Prime or on $25+ with Super Saver Shipping. I’m considering picking that one up, too, at that price. Again, the price is excellent, but it’s the shipping savings that really make it a great bargain.
Did I mention about still being bitter about carrying mine home from the store? I think I did. Ahem.
So shoe me
Check out today’s deals at 6pm.com if you can’t decide between working out and looking pretty; they have tons of athletic shoe deals (Saucony, New Balance) as well as plenty of brands suitable for looking lovely (Gabriella Rocha, Earth, Naughty Monkey).
They actually have quite a few of those Sauconys in kids’ sizes, which allows me to feign “shopping for the kids” when a pretty pair for me falls into my shopping basket. Oops!
I have a weakness for turtles
Need a baby shower gift? This little guy wasn’t around when my kids were babies, but I gather it’s a pretty popular item nowadays: Amazon has the Cloud b Twilight Constellation Night Light (it’s a stuffed turtle that lights up and projects stars on the walls!) available for just $16.47! That’s about half the usual cost.
Free shipping with Prime, or eligible for free Super Saver Shipping on your $25+ order.
Is it wrong that I kind of want one of these for me? Wait, don’t answer that.
More discounts, free shipping
Over the next couple of days, enjoy free shipping on any order at Macy’s with coupon code SHIPFREE.
And if you go into the women’s clearance and look at the “$19.99 and Under” deals, you just may find something you need. It looks like they’ve done another round of reductions since the last sale, even.
Maybe you can resist, but I consider new markdowns combined with free shipping nothing less than a divine sign. What?
It’s that time again
What time is it? It’s time to save big at Restaurant.com, of course! They’ve got a new 80% off coupon available, and it means that when you apply code ENJOY you’ll be purchasing $25 of dining for just $2 out-of-pocket. And I know I tell you that new restaurants are added all the time, but dude, new restaurants are added all the time, seriously. I bought some on the last 80% off coupon and when I checked just now there were 2 new restaurants in my area. It’s like that.
As for using them, it’s easy. Just make sure you give it to your server first thing, then enjoy your affordable meal. I don’t know about you, but I sense a date night coming on….
Need a DS deal?
Remember when the Nintendo DSi was coming out, and everyone was ready for the DS to drop in price? Except that… it never did, probably because the DSi cost so much, plenty of people were happy just to stick with the original DS. And now there’s the DSXL, so I’m still waiting for the DS to drop in price, but it doesn’t seem to be happening quite yet. I am beginning to suspect Nintendo of being run by Borg-like creatures who are slowly taking over our children’s brains, convincing them they cannot live without video games. (Just kidding, Nintendo. Please don’t sue me.)
Anyway. All of that is to say that this is the best DS deal I’ve seen, even with all of the new stuff floating around: Right now Amazon has the Nintendo DS Lite available in either Cobalt or Metallic Rose for just $115—$15 off the regular price—and it comes with a $30 video game credit, too. So you’re essentially getting your DS for $85, which is pretty sweet.
If the Borg has convinced your kid he needs the DSi or DSXL, though, I’m afraid I can’t help you.
Burt me baby one more time
Okay; you’ve had two previous chances to pick up Burt’s Bees gift packs in the Target Daily Deals to use as teacher gifts or whatever gifts, and both previous times there have been wails of “Oh no, sold out!” later in the day. So I’m telling you first thing today that there’s a Burt’s Bees “favorite things” gift pack available today for just $10. (The top level page is looking a little wonky; it may say $19.99 still, but if you click through, it’s just $9.99.)
Get ’em while the getting’s good. I think coupon code 2ROZVVHX is still working for an extra 10% off, too. Don’t wait until later—this one will be gone before lunch, I’m guessing.
Shabby Apple winner; consolation pizza
Hey, I have a winner for you! The winner of the Shabby Apple contest from this week, in fact, who will soon be strutting her stuff in a pretty new dress. The random number generator has spoken, and the winner is… commenter 114, Beth! (Beth has a blog called bethtastic which I think is kind of awesome.) Congratulations, Beth! I hope your new dress makes you even more bethtastic! Please check your email so that we can get your prize out to you.
Thanks to all who played, and special thanks to the generosity of the folks at Shabby Apple for the prize donation. And all of the pretty, pretty dresses I love to look at and drool over.
Didn’t win this one? Don’t be sad! Hey, pizza always cheers me up. Tell you what—I’ll send three Want Not readers a coupon for a free Freschetta pizza, just to make you feel better. Dinner’s on me! Just go review the contest rules and regulations, then come on back here and leave a comment on this post by 11:59 p.m. Eastern (that’s 8:59 p.m. Pacific) on Sunday, May 9th, 2010 to be entered. I’ll choose three lucky winners at random. Not exactly a swanky Mother’s Day gift, I know, but who turns down free pizza? Exactly.
Ready? Go!
Saturday deals
Goooood morning! Why yes, I do strangely resemble a strawberry this morning. I have no idea why that is. Please ignore the red stains under my fingernails, and also the sugar coma into which I am rapidly descending.
What can you do today while I go detox? I have a few ideas….
The Amazon Gold Box has deals on DVD sets of your favorite TV shows from the 60s and 70s. I’m thinking Father’s Day. But if you’re in the market for a KitchenAid mixer (don’t make me bust out my loving stand mixer haikus, people—it won’t be pretty), today’s a great day to get one: Amazon has the Artisan 5-quart KitchenAids in black and red marked down to just $200, and there’s a mail-in rebate available to get a free food grinder or slicer/shredded attachment, too. Sweet.
6pm.com has a slew of deals, including big savings on Mootsies Tootsies, which are fun to wear as well as fun to say. (“Oh, these? They’re Mootsies Tootsies.”)
Take 25% off any item of your choosing at the Disney Store with coupon code MOM25, this weekend only.
Okay, I have to scoot for a bit… will be back with a contest winner, another chance to win, and more deals later this afternoon. In the meantime, don’t do anything I wouldn’t do. (And here, please have some strawberries.)
