If you’d rather be the DJ
Didn’t with the Band Hero contest, and you’d really rather spin the turntable, anyway? DJ Hero is Amazon’s Video Game Deal of the Day, with the bundle costing $89 for whichever platform you choose.
It’s not as good as free, but better than paying full price….

(Okay, I lied. This post not brought to you by all twelve pounds of my pooch, but through the magic of future-dating an entry.)
Through December 13th, 2009, buy up to 50 pounds worth of stuff at PetFoodDirect and ship it all for free with code PET3710A. It’s a great way to avoid lugging bags of food home from the store.
Do watch the prices, of course; I find they’re very competitive on some things, overpriced on others.
(Licorice finds that pig ears are delicious. She wanted me to mention that.)
Watch ’em for me, okay?
Ack! I have to head out to a meeting for a bit and that’s totally going to disrupt my Amazon Holiday Lightning Deals addiction. What if I miss something good?? You keep an eye on the deals until I get back, please. (Wow, there’s an $80 Yamaha Blu-ray player available right now, and Monopoly for $5….)
Back in a bit, with the winner of the Band Hero contest!
That’s a sexy beast
Have I mentioned that my ancient KitchenAid mixer finally bit the dust, and for months on end I fretted about ponying up to replace it? I hemmed and hawed for so long, my husband finally scouted out an awesome refurbished deal (I’ve taught him well!) and presented me with The KitchenAid Of My Dreams as an early Christmas present.
(I’m pretty sure he was just worried I wouldn’t make cookies, otherwise.)
It’s a good thing I’m not in the market for a mixer, then, because today’s Overstock Daily Deal is the 90th Anniversary KitchenAid mixer and I don’t mind telling you that I feel a strong urge to lick it. That fire engine red! That glass bowl! It’s just so pretty. Overstock is offering it for just under $300, today, with free shipping. (For comparison: It seems to be holding steady at $335 at Amazon and elsewhere.)
Is this the world’s best deal on a KitchenAid? Well, no. But it’s probably the best deal to be had on this limited edition model, if this is the one you simply have to have.
Hours and hours of classics
Remember last year when there was a big deal on a giant set of Scholastic DVDs, with tons of kids’ books being narrated by famous people? I’ve been waiting for that deal to come back. I’m still waiting.
But, I just came across a second set—the Barnes & Noble Deal of the Day is a 100-story DVD set for just $40 shipped! (For comparison: The same set is currently $90 from Amazon.)
This one is also from Scholastic, and also features famous voices (James Earl Jones, anyone?), and whether you keep it as a set or make short work of a number of individual gifts in one fell swoop, it’s a whole lot of literary goodness for the anklebiter set.
(Also: Chicka chicka boom boom, will there be enough room? If I have to have that stuck in my head, now, so do you. You’re welcome.)
Even though I hate girl marketing
Why must the girl toys be pink and the boy toys blue? Why must a play kitchen be for a girl and a tool bench for a boy? These are the questions I ponder before my first cup of coffee. No, it’s not easy being me.
Despite the annoyance it causes me, apparently there’s a big market for something called ChixOs, which is just PixOs sets with dolls, especially for girls. Sigh. But do girls love ’em? Yes, they do.
If you must, buy them for less:
The ChixOs Design-A-Luxury Loft is down to $10 (67% off).
The ChixOs Runway V1 is down to $7 (60% off).
The ChixOs Fashion Boutique is down to $4.40 (60% off).
And the ChixOs Backyard Party is down to $4.40 (60% off).
I think I have to go lie down, now, as I’m feeling overpowered by pink….
Stuff stockings with Spectrobes
I actually have no idea what this DS game is, but it sounds cool. Spectrobes sound vaguely futuristic, don’t you think? And a 4-and-a-half star DS game for $8 sounds good, too!
In case you got hungry chasing those deals
Don’t forget to exercise your Constitutional right to fine dining at a cut-rate price! (What? I’m sure it’s there in the fine print, somewhere.) Through December 14th, 2009, get your dining certificates at Restaurant.com at 80% off the regular price using coupon code SHARE. That means $25 worth of fine dining for just $2 out-of-pocket, and a night you don’t have to cook or feel guilty.
Sadly, they’re down to just one eligible restaurant in my corner of the world. I’m waiting and hoping for an expansion—enjoy, those of you who have multiple choices!
Not just fit, Fit Plus
Still searching for a Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board? Amazon has them marked down to just $86 shipped, and there’s still plenty of time to get it before Christmas.
My plain ol’ Wii Fit feels sad and inadequate, especially seeing as how I paid more for it than the enhanced version now costs. Hmph.
I’m obsessed, so you don’t have to be
Slowly, slowly the Amazon toy markdowns are trickling in. When the deals are good I can get most of my shopping for the coming year done this way, so you’d better believe I’m hanging on every price change. Yes, I probably need other hobbies. But in the meantime, here I am.
Here’s some good ones I’ve bookmarked today:
K’nex value tub for $15
Wild Planet Hyper Dash for $12
Wild Planet Animal Scramble for $10
Trivial Pursuit Digital Choice for $10
Trivial Pursuit Team for $10
Blokus 3D for $10
CirKis for $8
Star Wars Captain Rex helmet for $20
And no, I’m not getting anything useful done today, why do you ask?
[Edited to add: Also, the Holiday Lightning Deals are killing me dead. This awesome globe puzzle is coming up in about five minutes. How cool is that??] [Edited again: $15 for the globe puzzle! Awesome.]
