For the big kids

First off, I feel compelled to tell you that these are less dirty than they sound. Honest.

That said, have you heard of Bucky Balls? I hadn’t, but they’re apparently little earth magnets—super strong—that can be used to create all kinds of creations.

Amazon has that set for $30 with a $5 credit at checkout, so quite a bit cheaper than they are elsewhere. Very cool, but not for kids under 12 or households with small creatures who might try to eat some delicious earth magnet snacks.

(And a bonus: I found those by accident while I was looking at Qwirkle, which is down to $20 and is a 5-star, award-winning smartypants game I’ve been stalking. )

Watch this

Need a cheap men’s watch to stuff a stocking? They’re not Seikos or anything, but right now Amazon has an assortment of Wrangler watches for $3.75 or $4.50 apiece. Eligible for Prime or Super Saver Shipping, and an easy way to pick up a little something.

(Hmph. I wish they had women’s watches, so I could get one for my daughter and not be annoyed when she breaks it.)

Another chance at headphones, and more

Buy.com’s already got their Thanksgiving Blowout Store up and running, and there’s plenty of wow-worthy deals happening over there that you could probably sneak in while you’re baking pies.

If you’re one of the folks who missed out on the Altec Lansing earbuds deal from a few days ago, they’ve got another pair available for $10 today. I don’t think they’re quite as fancy as the previous ones, but I may give ’em a go.

And—laugh if you will, but fellow moms of sensory-seeking kids will understand why this excites me—check out this Perfect Pull-Up contraption for $20. It’s meant for gymrats, of course, but install that in your kid’s doorway and suddenly you’ve got a therapeutic device for waaaaaay less than what they charge in the “special” catalogs, am I right?

It truly is the most wonderful time of the year….

Outfit the kids between pies

I don’t know about you, but for me, today is International Run Around Like A Chicken With My Head Cut Off Day. (Motto: Just as uncomfortable as it sounds!) I have cornbread cooling on the counter to be made into stuffing for tomorrow, I have pies to bake and a turkey to brine, cranberry sauces to whip up, and—oh, I guess I should probably also sort of entertain my guests and my kids. And I’ll be cramming all of that in around trolling the deals, because today is the start of My Favorite Shopping Season, and while pumpkin pie is serious stuff, so is celebrating the crazy deals. Heh.

Anyway, assuming your day is a little less full than mine, or that you’ll need a mental health and bargain break, you may want to trot on over to The Children’s Place at some point. Today only, you can use coupon code EARLYBIRD9 for 20% off your entire order, regardless of size. They’ve got that $5, $6, $7 sale going again, and it’s the perfect way to scoop up those matching pajamas you’ve been meaning to get. Also, it’s a good excuse to get away from chatty relatives if need be.

(Note to my relatives: I didn’t mean you. You’re awesome.)

It may be time to convert

Anyone who knows me knows that I convert over to “new” technology pretty slowly, as I generally require that the predecessor die a spectacular death before I replace it. This is why we don’t own a fancy flat-screen TV, and why I felt lucky to get a refurbished first-generation iPhone and still have it despite everyone else’s iPhones now making mine look old and clunky. Sigh.

Anyway, this is to say that Yes, Virginia, we’re still using a conventional DVD player. But today’s Amazon Gold Box Deal is a near-five-star LG Blu-ray player for just under $100, and I’m wavering in my resolve to wait for the current DVD player to break. Ahem.

Oh, wait. My husband says he thinks we need a HDTV for this baby. Hmph. Okay, maybe it’s not for us. But perhaps it’s for you. Also, can I come over on movie night? I’ll bring the popcorn!

Roar!

Well, my holiday shopping has officially begun in earnest. Santa saw that this Struxx ROBOTRIXX is down to $20 shipped, and, well, that was hard to pass up.

Er, impossible, actually. Santa has 1-click ordering enabled.

Stop looking at me like that.

So tiny and cute

I have a “conventional” iPod I got as a freebie when I bought my last computer, and compared to today’s Nanos and such, it’s a behemoth. I remember thinking it was really cool looking, at the time. But now I look at it and wish it was a pretty color and a quarter of the size it actually is. Because I’m cranky like that.

If I were buying an MP3 player now, I’d probably go ahead and get one of these 8GB Nanos, available in a rainbow of colors for just $115 shipped! They’re so adorable I kind of want to love them and hug them and pet them and squeeze them and call them George.

Except that I’d probably call the pink one Georgette. (In case you were worried.)

Trekkie, baby

I know I’m among fellow nerds here, so I can safely and proudly declare that I had a crush on Captain Jean-Luc Picard for many years, right? I mean, you did, too, surely. I can’t be the only one. I mean… oh, stop looking at me. Nevermind.

Regardless of whether or not you dug Captain Picard or prefer vintage Kirk, here’s a couple of DVD deals you might not want to miss: Get either the Star Trek Original Motion Picture Collection or the Star Trek Next Generation Motion Picture Collection right now at Buy.com for $40 or $28 shipped, respectively. (For reference, the former is $59 and the latter is $39 currently at Amazon.)

If you get both, you could do a side-by-side hot captain comparison. Or just, you know, watch the movies for their artistic merit. Either way.

You would hate me more if I didn’t

Some of you have been begging me to stop with the 6pm.com deals, but others have implored me not to forget to put up an alert when they have certain deals, so I feel beholden to let you know that they have Danskos for $35 today. What did I say, the first time they did this? That wearing Danskos is like walking on buttered unicorn breath? Something like that.

These shoes are regularly $100+, so I feel like they’d take away my bargain hunter badge if I didn’t let you know. Please apologize to your husband or other why-do-you-have-so-many-shoes inquisitor on my behalf.

Can you hear me now?

I love my iPhone, but I hate the earbuds it came with. Maybe my ear canals are strangely shaped, I don’t know. I’ve been waiting for the right deal on replacement headphones, ones that are “squishy” but good quality, and I’ve had my eye on these Altec Lansing SnugFits for a while, and now they’re just $10 shipped! (For reference: They’re $64 plus shipping from Amazon right now.)

I may finally have some earphones that don’t keep leaping out of my ears. Woo!

[Edited to add: Nevermind, looks like it went out of stock while I was posting. Wah.]
