I always celebrate with shoes

Happy Labor Day! I’ve been busy puttering around and thinking about charring food on the grill, later. That’s what this holiday is all about, right? Well, that and shoes.

(Oh, like you don’t like to celebrate things with shoes. I know how you are.)

Today’s deals at 6pm.com include unbelievable bargains on PF Flyers, Indigo, and more.

Or check out the Labor Day sale at Shoebuy.com and use code SPECIAL to save 20%.

Or head on over to Famous Footwear, where buying one pair gets you another at half price, plus you’ll get an additional 20% off and free shipping with coupon code BTS20.

America: Land of the free, home of the brave, and the place to find unlimited deals on pretty shoes. Is this a great country or what?

Last chance for stock-up savings!

In case you haven’t checked it out yet, today is the last day for 40% off stock-up dorm deals at Amazon—savings of up to 40% on some of your favorite groceries and snacks, depending on how many you buy. Use coupon code BCKSCLO9 to take 20% off 2, 30% off 3, or 40% off 5 of eligible products.

I’m pretty sure this can be combined with Subscribe & Save, too. So, for example, I’m looking at these Horizon organic milk cartons and figuring that if I buy enough of them, they come to around $.57 apiece. Which is crazy cheap.

Hmmmmm….

Saturday deals

Good morning! It’s a great day to laze around, get a late start, and scout out some deals.

Graveyard Mall is celebrating Labor day with 80%+ off retail pricing. Woo!

Children’s Place says Labor Day means a slew of Fall items for just $5 each, plus Summer markdowns are even lower. Shipping is always just a flat $5, and you can use coupon code FA79 for an additional 15% off your order.

There’s plenty of deals this weekend at 6pm.com, naturally, but I’ve got my eye on the 60% off Patagonia items, myself.

Those folks with the backwards R have your savings right here: Save $5 off $25+ on top of slashed prices at either Babies R Us or Toys R Us this weekend.

They’ve already got the Halloween goodies out at Oriental Trading, and right now you can get free shipping on $49+, so if you want to stock up for those upcoming school parties and such, now’s a good time to do it.

Did you know that Barnes & Noble offers a Deal of the Day? They do, and today’s deal is a cute kit for girls to make their own belt. Code P8T3T73 is still valid for non-members to save 10% on one item, too, while members can use code R4L8A4U to save 15%.

Photo flip books have arrived at Vistaprint! Try out a 10-page book for free, or check out the insanely low prices on other options. It’s not too early to start thinking about the holidays, people, and all of the grandparents who needs pics of your adorable kids.

Check out the Labor Day deals at Overstock.com, and then click through this link right here to take $15 off your purchase of $350+. Handy if you’re buying yourself a couch or something.

You know Macy’s is having a big sale, with free shipping on $99+ with coupon code FABFALL.

That should keep you busy for a while. Enjoy the long weekend, folks!

Let the wild Labor Day rumpus begin

Remember all of those sales I was talking about yesterday? The ones that we’ll be seeing all weekend? It’s not healthy to just dive into those kinds of markdowns. Consider this week’s Amazon Friday Sale your warm-up.

Want to be a hero at the next baby shower? Although the ones that come in fun colors are cute, too, the original Candela lights are the perfect gift for the new nursery, and they’ll continue to be used years after baby has mastered sleeping through the night. And $30 for the set is a steal.

$66 for a full-size Aerobed is incredible, or if you just need something for the kids to use on sleepovers, today you can snap up the pink twin overnighter for just $35. (Even cheaper: “You’re young! Sleep on the floor!”)

I’ve never seen this bronze Anolon cookware before today, but I think it’s kind of sharp (and Anolon quality is great). The fact that this set is $100 off may be swaying my opinion just a little, but still.

There’s a whole slew of not-particularly-bargain-priced office supplies, today. The only thing that piqued my interest (and would make a good filler if you were close to $25 for Super Saver Shipping) is this pack of disappearing glue sticks. Sadly, no, the entire glue stick doesn’t disappear. That would be a fun party trick. But it is that cool purple that’s easy to see but dries clear. My kids used to go through these like water.

Okay, I’ve been eying this round kitchen work station ever since it started showing up in the Friday Sale a few weeks ago. I think it’s really lovely looking, and a great way to expand your workspace in a kitchen that needs a little extra room. But today I realized that it has a hole in the center where you can hang a garbage bag underneath or use the attached chef’s pan, so that you can peel veggies directly into the trash (but not actually over the real trash, in case you’re clumsy like me and then end up throwing your potatoes in with the garbage every few minutes) or scoop chopped items directly into the pan. Brilliant. So, yeah, it’s not chump change at $380 shipped, but if you’ve been looking for an island/cart, take a look at that one.

Look, it’s my new blender! It’s very loud (we’ve got ours set on a mouse pad, now, to dampen the sound a little), but I’ve been pleased with its performance on morning smoothie duty. (I put spinach in our smoothies, so believe you me, I need something that’s going to pulverize the contents.)

This is… a lot of Red Vines. (So are these, though I want to know why those aren’t called Black Vines.) Just sayin’.

Today’s Gold Box Deal is 2.5 pounds of Starbucks Breakfast Blend coffee for under $16, so that’s a deal worth checking out if you like to make your own ‘bucks at home.

And don’t forget that a new month means a new slew of MP3 album downloads for just $5 each, if you’re in the mood to get your tunes on.

Remember, today is the first day of the rest of your life weekend. Enjoy!

Ice, ice baby

One of the first appliances I received was my new refrigerator. And other than being able to say “ooooh, shiny!” when it arrived—the stainless steel replaced a boring old white fridge—I really didn’t think too much about it. Because, well, a fridge is a fridge is a fridge, right?

Well, yes. But also no.

In replacing my old side-by-side with a new side-by-side I didn’t expect to see much of a difference. But it turns out that my new fridge has several differences from my old one. Some are good. Some are a little less good. And still others are just plain nifty.

I recently realized that mostly what I notice about my new fridge is the ice. If you, too, find you have a strange obsession with ice, read on. read more…

Extended Labor Day remix

I think that with all of the sales we’re likely to see coming up this weekend, someone ought to write a really excellent rap song including all of the “today only!” and “limited time!” and “extra special quadruple savings!” sorts of phrases we’ll be bombarded with for the next few days.

Someone get right on that, mmkay?

Anyway, Sierra Trading Post is already on the Labor Day Sale bandwagon, and in addition to slashed prices you can use coupon code ALSEPTEMBER9 for an additional 15% off $100+ or 20% off $150+.

I love Sierra Trading Post because every time I go there for a specific piece of camping gear or something, I always find something else that I didn’t know I needed until I found it, and it’s usually something that’s diametrically opposed to what I was originally seeking. So I end up buying… a tent and a pretty dress! Or… snow pants and some cutlery! It’s always an adventure, is my point.

Because I like to hear it all sounded out

I recently upgraded to a GPS unit that has text-to-speech, which our first one didn’t have. The first one said “In point four miles, turn right.” The new one says, “In point four miles, turn right on highway four hundred forty one.” And that’s not only more information (and I am all for more information), it is, for some reason, continually hilarious to me. I mean, we humans ’round here call it four-forty-one. But ever since the new GPS came to roost on my dashboard, my husband and I delight in asking each other if we’ll be turning on “high-way four hundred forty one.”

It’s true, we are easily amused.

Nonetheless, I still really appreciate the text-to-speech feature on a pragmatic level. Sometimes there are multiple roads, and it’s handy to hear which one you’re looking for.

Today Buy.com has the refurbished TomTom ONE 130S on sale for $75 shipped. It has great reviews both there and at Amazon (where a new one will run you close to $130), and I can still remember when a GPS with text-to-speech for under $100 was just craziness.

You kids today, you have it too easy. You and your highway four hundred forty one. Hmph.

BPA-free + savings = BFF

A few of you have mailed me about the recent SIGG debacle (namely, that SIGG claimed to be a safer, BPA-free water bottle option and it turns out that—surprise!—they contain BPA as well), and I, too, have been stewing over it. We own four SIGGs. I can’t quite bear the idea of just tossing them.

But my super-awesome colleagues at Cool Mom Picks have come to the rescue; go read all about how your SIGG bottles can be traded in for a discount on safer alternatives between now and September 14th. While I greatly appreciate the savings, I like it even more that this ensures our old bottles will be properly recycled, too.

Khaki up

It’s time for the Annual Khaki Event at Dockers, which sounds like it should involve a zombie army in nicely pressed cargo pants, but actually just means they’ve got some special pricing through September 13th.

Still, once you get over the disappointment about the zombie thing, it’s worth checking out if you like their pants.
