Free fancy flavors of chips

You know it’s bad when I’m so busy that I need a reader to alert me to a deal on one of my own sites. More coffee, stat!

Some of you know I’m a contributing writer to Daily Grommet, which you should have bookmarked because it’s fabulous. Today’s Grommet is a Want Not-level deal on FoodShouldTasteGood chips. Usually a Grommet is offered for sale each day, but today, all you need to do is follow the site instructions to sign up for the FoodShouldTasteGood fan club (you’ll need to make sure to tell them that Daily Grommet sent you), and you’ll not only get to print off a $1 coupon, you’ll be mailed coupons good for two free bags! They’re natural, they’re healthy, and best of all, they come in wacky flavors like chocolate or sweet potato. And did I mention the part about getting some for free?

Thanks, Jill!

Clean the air

Periodically one of you pretty folks send me an email asking about shopping for air purifiers, and my advice generally runs along the lines of, “…” because there are a zillion different kinds and no shortage of opinions on what kind is the best. It can be really confusing.

None of this is going to stop me from point out that currently, Buy.com is offering the Honeywell HHT-011 air purifier for $47 shipped. True, this unit is only suitable for a relatively small space (such as an 8’x10′ room), but the reviews over at Amazon (where the cost is quite a bit higher) are largely favorable, and its HEPA filter is a permanent one which requires only periodic vacuuming. So both cost- and function-wise I feel comfortable saying this is probably a decent product.

But if you buy it and your house is still stinky, please don’t yell at me.

Woot for kids

Have you checked out Woot lately? Today’s woot is a two-pack of Build-a-Fort kits—fabric and clips to set up your hideaway, plus two glow wands in each package. You’ll get the two sets for just under $15 shipped, and wouldn’t they make a nice addition to your gift closet for those unexpected birthday parties?

You know what to do.

Cheap eats

Have you tried Restaurant.com yet? If not, why not?? It’s a great way to try new restaurants and/or save big bucks at your old favorites. Right now you can use coupon code PALATE to save 70% on your certificate purchase; that means $25 worth of dining out for just $3 out-of-pocket. That’s crazy.

They take Paypal, too. Yes, it’s true, I pink puffy heart Restaurant.com.

A couple of Amazon deals

They’re calling it a “dorm organization kit,” but I think today’s Gold Box Deal is actually well-suited to just about any bedroom. If only it came with a way to get the kids to actually put their stuff away, then they’d really be on to something. (I mean, I love that shoe rack thing. But it doesn’t solve the issue of children who are oblivious to their stinky shoes in the middle of the floor, is all I’m saying.)

If you’re not looking to get organized, but have one of those fancy new-fangled Blu-ray players (I will continue to refer to them as “new-fangled” until I get one, myself), check this out: Amazon has the complete Planet Earth on Blu-ray for under $39. I’m pretty sure this was the most amazing series ever made, and I say that as someone who regularly watches her low-def version on a crummy little television. If you have an HDTV and Blu-ray, this version will probably blow your mind.

Okay, I need to go deal with my technology envy for a few minutes.

I hear the siren song of markdowns

Well, we’ve been back to school for a couple of weeks, now, but I finally know it’s the end of summer. How do I know? Well, the first virus came home from school (thanks, kids), and The Children’s Place is finally having their end-of-summer sale. There’s new markdowns on Fall items, too, just in case you’ve recently discovered that all your kid’s pants shrunk about two inches over the summer. Ahem.

Use coupon code FA79 to save an additional 15%, and remember that shipping is always just a flat $5.

Happy shopping!

Addicted to grocery specials

I have a confession to make. I think I’m addicted to the “Manager’s Specials” at Amazon. I can’t help it! I’m powerless over a good deal!

Where else am I going to find these Ginger-Os for around $2/package after Subscribe & Save? And really, can you fault me for thinking that these cute cocoa tins—which come out to about $1.75 apiece after Subscribe & Save—would be perfect for little teacher gifts at the holidays?

It’s not my fault, I tell you.

Convection Junction

When we last left off, the installation of my new Frigidaire kitchen appliances had hit a small hiccup. And by “small hiccup” I of course mean “possible disaster.” It took five tries, but I now have a flawless range/oven—it’s a thing of beauty. And it’s clear that some of the problems we saw before (like the dent in the door facing) have been fixed at the factory level; the construction is actually different, now. We can see that there’s now a spacer by the door handle that wasn’t there before, and the spacer is preventing the denting that was happening before.

So, yeah, I now have a beeyoootiful oven. I’ve been going about all of my usual sorts of cooking, and enjoying it, sure, but I hadn’t really put this new machine to the test. I’d never said to myself, “Self, what would be a good way to see if this oven really is superior to a conventional oven?”

Well, until this weekend, anyway. This weekend I decided it was time. read more…

More love for Target

Oh, lookie here. It turns out that in addition to the ever-awesome daily deals at Target, they’re currently offering a $7 off $70+ coupon, which you activate by clicking through that link there (it will show up in your cart with qualifying purchase).

Then you shop to your heart’s content, take advantage of the various other offers around (like free shipping on $50+ in some departments, or an additional 15% off in others), and reap the savings.

I dunno, I’m rethinking those pink Docs, now….

Monday morning shoes

Don’t mind if I do. (Do you know the Wallace and Gromit movies? Where Wallace is always saying, “Cheeeeeeeese, Gromit!” with a wiggle of his fingers like it’s the greatest thing ever? I have taught my daughter to say, “Shooooooes, Gromit!” I like to think it will be my most meaningful legacy. Heh.)

So. Two things of note, if you’re feeling shoe-tastic today:

First, one of the Target Daily Deals is powder pink Doc Martens for just under $70. I am far too old for such a thing anymore, but I kind of dig ’em, anyway.

Second, it looks like 6pm.com is doing a slew of weekly deals, this week, instead of daily ones. And today’s top deal is select Indigo by Clarks shoes for under $22. Remember, popular sizes do sell out, so take a look if you’re interested.

If there’s a better way to start the week than checking out shoes, I don’t know what it is!
