Hey there, Friday
Just when I think I can’t stand this week for another second… it’s suddenly Friday. And that means it’s time for the Amazon Friday Sale, and prices are good and all of the cartoon animals emerge from the forest to help me iron my clothes and mop the floor!
Um. Okay, maybe not the part about the animals. But the rest is true, I swear.
I point out this photo holder every time it’s on sale. I just think it’s a really fun way to display pictures. And today it’s $17 and eligible for the 4-for-3 promotion.
Thinking about turning your kitchen into a 50’s diner? I’ve got just the dinette for you!
A summer of doing freezer processing with the bounty from my garden has me rethinking learning how to can… and I’ve got my eye on this pressure cooker/canner, because at around $68, that’s the lowest I’ve seen it go.
Okay, this one isn’t that great of a deal, I don’t suppose (and pay attention if you decide to buy it, because it defaults to a different seller, which only saves you a couple of bucks off Amazon’s price once you figure in shipping), but holy heck I want this Farmyard Waffler. Because nothing says “I love you” like waffles shaped like cows and roosters.
Love meatloaf? Hate grease? I love this Anolon meat loaf pan set that allows you to pick the meatloaf right up out of grease. Brilliance. And only $15, and eligible for the 4-for-3 promotion. (No, you probably don’t want four of them. But you can mix and match eligible items.)
My kids totally think they’re getting away with something when I buy them Koala Crisp, which is basically a gluten-free, organic version of Cocoa Pebbles. Buy it on Subscribe & Save today at the Friday Sale price and it comes out to about $2.50/box. I don’t know about your local supermarket, but mine charges about $4.50/box for this. We’ll be stocking up.
Today’s Gold Box Deal is a spiffy new-style Roomba, one that makes my older generation Roomba feel sad and inadequate. Sigh.
And now, I’m off to make some more coffee. From pods I bought in a past Friday Sale, natch.
Got your Crocs?
Did you manage to catch the last big Crocs sale? If not, no worries—right now the Crocs Summer Sale is still on, including buy 1, get one half off on certain styles. Plus shipping is still automatically free, through the end of the month (that’s tomorrow).
I may go ahead and pick up the kids’ knock-around pairs for next year, at these prices.
Zoom crash bash
Did you happen to hop over to Kohls to check out their Deal of the Day, today? It’s the Slam Shifter Speedway Crash Traxx Super Loops, which is an exceptionally long way of saying what every little boy inherently knows is cool: Cars! Going fast! And crashing!
Today only, it’s just $14.99. Kohls charge card holder can use code PICKJULY for an additional 15% off, plus coupon code MVC3069 for free shipping. Free shipping on all orders of $75+ is still in effect, too.
If you were over there picking up socks and underwear (what, isn’t that how everyone does their back-to-school shopping…?), anyway, tossing one of these in your cart and checking off a holiday gift would just be a bonus.
Artsy-fartsy photos
As some of you know, I’m married to a photographer. That means that 90% of the time, I don’t even bother taking pictures—I leave it to him. The other 10% of the time, I’m either snapping something with my phone or sneaking around with his Lensbaby. Here is what I love about the Lensbaby: Once you get the hang of it, you end up with really cool-looking photos. (Here’s what else I love about the Lensbaby: I’m actually better with it than my husband, because all of his technical proficiency seems to get in the way of the “that looks sort of cool” flow that seems to work best.) I’m not a great photographer, to be honest, but I’ve gotten some fabulous shots with the Lensbaby and it’s just plain fun to use.
Have you considered buying one? If so, right now the Lensbaby LB2C is just $69.99 shipped from Amazon. That’s a heckuva lot cheaper than a fancy tilt-shift lens, cheaper even than the regular Lensbaby price ($100), and a great way to dabble in “artsy” photography without breaking the bank.
Showing your resultant pictures to your husband and demanding, “Say it! Say I made an awesome picture!” is optional. Ahem.
Get more Monsters
I’m going to confess right up front that I don’t know anything about this show; apparently I am too busy watching Deadliest Catch and Ice Road Truckers with my husband to have picked up yet another pseudo-dangerous-reality addiction. But apparently there’s this show called Monster Quest where they go in search of legendary animals. Which… actually sounds really cool.
Anyway, today (July 30th, 2009) only, you can get all Monster-ed up at the History Channel Store. It’s a special bundle: Buy Season 2 for $19.99, get Season 3 for free! That’s six discs of monster-hunting goodness.
I may have to buy it just to see if they find Bigfoot.
Really not at all horrible
It’s here! It’s here! And it’s on sale! That’s right, it’s time for the Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog DVD, and it’s just $7.42 shipped today from Buy.com.
Here’s a handy chart to test your geekitude:
1) Slightly geeky—you buy one for yourself.
2) Geek camaraderie—you buy one for yourself, and one for each of your good friends.
3) You’re probably wearing a pocket protector—you buy one for everyone you know.
(You’re welcome.)
If you have no idea what I’m talking about, I have just two words for you: Joss Whedon. Oh, wait. I have three more words for you: Neil Patrick Harris. Okay, actually, I totally lied. Two more: Buy this.
Smell better
I always sign up for free laundry detergent samples, because you never know when you’re going to run out and one of those magical little pouches—wedged in the corner of the laundry area—is going to mean the difference between despair and clean jeans. But when I can get free laundry detergent that also has Febreze added, well, then I start hatching plans to do a load of just socks, to test out its de-stink-ify-ing abilities.
It’s possible I need to think about picking up more hobbies. Regardless, who doesn’t love free detergent?
Still need uniforms?
I know, I know—I’ve got school on the brain.
But today’s Amazon Gold Box Deal is 50% off uniform essentials, and if you’re needing a few more pieces to round out the kids’ schoolwear, now’s the time.
(I, of course, bought early and now before school has even started have a child insisting I bought the wrong thing. Lord help me.)
How to be cool for school
School’s a-comin’, and thankfully today at 6pm.com, all Converse sneakers are just $14.95.
I have it on good authority that they’re one of the only “non-lame” choices when it comes to footwear.
Then again, the same source informs me that I am often “mega-lame,” so I’m not sure what that tells you….
Take your camera kayaking
Have you been looking for a waterproof camera case for your DSLR and accoutrements? Check out this waterproof sling bag by MADE; I have no idea if it’s fabulous, but it is waterproof, and at under $33 shipped, the price certainly is right.
Especially if you need to take your lenses in a kayak with you. (Seriously, check out the user photos. I have apparently led a very sheltered life.)
