Speaking of cute bags
Y’all sure had a lot of suggestions yesterday when we were chatting about bags. That’s why I like you; you’re smart!
And look at that—one of today’s specials at 6pm.com is Ogio bags for $20. There’s a couple of darling backpacks, as well as a few messenger bags your husband won’t balk at carrying, too.
It’s like they heard us talking. (Insert the theme to “The Twilight Zone” here.)
Attention Harry Potter fans
As Amazon continues their movie week in the Gold Box, today’s deal is Harry Potter movies 1-5 as a set, on either regular DVD or Blu-ray. Either one is $57 shipped, and the DVD set comes with a ton of extras (a game, bonus footage, collectibles).
If you read the reviews, people are arguing about whether or not a person should wait until after the last movie to buy the entire set. If you talk to a die-hard Harry Potter fan, I suspect they’ll be salivating too hard to comment. Your call, I suppose. (But wouldn’t this be an awesome tuck-away for Christmas…?)
Oil of huge discounts
Do you use Oil of Olay products? You know… Regenerist, Definity, Total Effects, Quench, any of those? Amazon currently has over 150 eligible Olay products where you can save $15 on your $69+ purchase with coupon code JULY9PNG. But you can also go get a $20 rebate on your $50 purchase, which means that you can potentially get $69 worth of products for about half off. And that’s not even counting the stuff that’s already marked down at Amazon before the coupon or the rebate!
This is the time to stock up, if these are products you’d be buying, anyway.
(And as an added bonus, many of the items list the price and then tell you the price of available “new and used” choices, too. There’s nothing I like better than used body wash. Um. Except everything.)
A good week for movies
All this week at Amazon, the Gold Box will be featuring deals on movies. Woo! Today’s deal is the Batman anthology, and the current Lightning Deal is on the limited collector’s edition of 300.
(I am not cool enough to know what the heck 300 is, but Batman involves several yummy versions of the caped crusader, so I’m ready to add a little popcorn to that….)
Beyond the diaper bag
The very pretty Julie writes:
Mir, I am hoping you and your very wise readers can assist me. On a recent day trip with my 6 and 4 year olds, it occurred to me that now that we don’t use a stroller, I don’t have a place (other than my purse) to stow the various water bottles, bags of snacks, sunscreen, camera, and various other items that inevitably get handed to Mom for safekeeping. My husband suggested next time we use his backpack. That would work, but I don’t want to look like I am getting ready to scale a mountain 😉 I’ve seen some smaller backpacks on-line, but would hate to order it only to have it arrive and not be useful. Do you or your readers have any practical suggestions on what has worked?
Julie is experiencing the post-diaper-bag quandary, which is that the kids are still small enough to be toting various items and not able/willing to carry them themselves, but big enough that an entire diaper bag is silly. What to do?
This is actually a question of both function and fashion, which means it’s my favorite kind of question! read more…
Shoes and shades
Hey, remember when Shoes.com was offering an extra 20% off sale items? Wasn’t that great? They’re doing it again; just use coupon code SUMMER to save on anything except purses that’s already on sale. If you want something not on sale (in which case: Who are you and what are you doing here?), use coupon code FLAG15 for an additional 15% off.
If you prefer, Famous Footwear has their buy 1 pair, get the 2nd half price sale going on right now, plus free shipping on all orders, plus you can use coupon code JULY15 through July 19th, 2009, for another 15% off.
And finally, you know I can’t talk shoes without mentioning 6pm.com, and today they have up to 70% off select Clarks in addition to a ton of other deals. Also they have sunglasses on sale, which is rather thrilling to me as I just got contacts yesterday and can actually buy non-prescription sunglasses now. Woo!
Yes, my life is that thrilling
I’ve put off posting about this for several weeks because I realize it’s completely mundane and may in fact cause your eyes to roll back in your heads with extreme boredom, but I can contain it no longer. I must share.
I have a new love. Its name is Lundberg Jubilee Gourmet Brown Rice Blend. (Hey, I tried to warn you!) That link to the 6-pack on Amazon isn’t a stunning price, or anything—it works out to about $2.65/bag, which is a lot cheaper than my local grocery store, but still on the pricey side for rice—but you will not be sorry.
I happen to really like brown rice. And my family eats it, but sort of… grudgingly. This rice, though—everyone eats it and has seconds (and sometimes thirds). It’s nutty and flavorful and slightly sweet and just completely yummy. It’s also an eco-friendly whole grain (and gluten-free, if that’s a concern), so you can feel good about serving it to your family.
Right now I’m trying to figure out some good cold-salad recipes that use rice to incorporate it so that we can eat it even more often. Leave me your favorite rice recipe in the comments, if you have one!
Season’s end savings
The nice thing about how the clothing industry thinks a season is ending just as it’s actually beginning is that you can scoop up lots of deals in-season. (Did you follow that?) Like, right now they’ve got nearly everything on sale at Eddie Bauer, and it’s summer stuff so you can wear it right now.
Wasn’t Eddie Bauer supposedly going bankrupt? I guess that just means someone else is buying them…? There are a lot of things about big business I don’t understand.
Cheap khakis, though, that I understand.
Buy in bulk?
Y’all know I’m a Mac fan, but if you were in the market for a full-size laptop, you probably can’t beat this Buy.com deal on a eMachines 15.6″ laptop for just under $300 shipped. I mean, sure, you have to deal with Vista, but the price sure is right.
What’s perplexing, though, is that there’s a limit of 25 per customer. Which is such a shame, because my plans for world domination require 26 laptops. Curses, foiled again!
Get testy
Have you ever wondered how people get picked to be taste testers and/or product testers? Sometimes, they sign up online. Signing up could be your gateway to trying some new McCormick products for free, and what’s better than free?
Exactly.
