DVD me
Stocking up your home theater library? Here’s a couple of deals to get you started:
Amazon has five pages of DVDs eligible for 3-for-$10, for starters. Plenty of them are movies you’d actually watch, too, as opposed to the sort of offer where you can get three movies for ten bucks, but the problem is that you’ve never heard of any of the titles included.
Then, for your Bob Dylan fans, check out the 2-disc collector’s edition of “I’m Not There”, a Dylan-inspired odyssey that stars a lot of famous people in a rather surrealist story. (This is the sort of movie I can’t stand. But to each their own; plus, if you’re a fan of Dylan, it’s probably of interest.)
Me, I’m going to stick to not having time to watch the movies I already have, rather than buying new ones that I don’t have time to watch. But you’re probably better at managing your time than I am.
JCP Wednesday Deals
I keep forgetting to check the JC Penney Wednesday Deals, and then I check them and remember why I often forget to check—sometimes I wonder how they pick what goes in there. But who knows, maybe you really need a cheap garden fairy.
(Bonus: Some of those items are coming up cheaper once you add them to your cart.)
Enjoy!
Stock up at Old Navy
If you hold a credit card for Old Navy, Banana Republic, or Gap, you have through August 21st, 2008, to stock up at Old Navy and use coupon code STUFFSAVE to take 20% off your order.
Sure, you can save at those other stores, too, but it’s probably Old Navy where you can claim to be doing some bargain back-to-school shopping. And then if you sneak in something for you, who would blame you? I mean, you were just lovingly tending to the children’s needs when those cute shoes fell into your cart, right?
Summer’s on sale
Sure, for more of us, summer’s nearly over. But that won’t stop me from picking up some summer items that are priced right—they’ll still get weeks or months of use, this year, and be ready to go for next year.
And that’s why I was so tickled to see that today’s Deal of the Day items at Linens ‘N’ Things are Summer sale items like tropical table linens, beach chairs, and funky acrylic drinking glasses. (That very first set, the lemons drink set? How awesome of an end-of-school teacher gift would that be? So awesome!)
All Deal of the Day items ship for free, and you can also use coupon code JUL3108 to take an additional 20% off any one item.
Because nothing says summer like an unbreakable margarita glass. Or fun-to-wear dinosaur feet. Whatever.
I’ve always wanted a couple Super Soakers
My gift closet is pretty well stocked, but still, I can’t resist checking out eToys’ One-Week Sale for some bargains. There’s plenty of items half off, including some impressive-looking water pistols. (Hey, don’t judge. It’s supposed to hit 100 here today.)
They’re also running a special where orders of $68+ (how did they pick that number?) ship for free, so if you’re stocking up, there’s big savings to be had on shipping, too.
Time for savings
It’s a new month, and that means it’s time for a new discount code for Restaurant.com! Sure, there was a code just last week, but many restaurants release on a certain quota of certificates each month, and then you spend the rest of the money wondering why they’re sold out. Always check back the first week of the month for those hard-to-get certificates!
Through August 7th, 2008, use coupon code GAMES at Restaurant.com to net yourself $25 worth of dining for just $5. Because the very best appetizer of all is an absence of guilt (hey, this you can afford).
Drink more overpriced coffee!
Want to know what’s blowing my mind this morning? This story. The bottom line is that through September 2nd, 2008, Starbucks will sell you any grande iced drink after 2:00 p.m. at half-price with your receipt from a morning purchase.
Tell me something: Is there a single one of you who reads Want Not every day and habitually visits Starbucks? I’m thinking probably not. Furthermore, I’m guessing that even for a typical budget-conscious person who has prioritized a fancy-coffee-a-day habit, the chances of you then returning for a second coffee later in the day are slim.
I’m just going to go out on a limb and say that folks who are hitting Starbucks twice a day really don’t care about saving $2 on their afternoon iced latte. But kudos to Starbucks for acknowledging that we’re in a recession, and what this country needs most of all right now is more fancy caffeine. Way to go, Starbucks!
Time to stock up. . . on food!
It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and I’m not just saying that because the kids are about to go back to school. No, I’m saying that because once again there’s an unbeatable grocery special at Amazon.
And if there’s one thing I like better than stocking my pantry on the cheap, it’s stocking my pantry on the cheap without having to leave the house. Woo!
Check it out: Right now there’s hundreds of eligible grocery products, including lots of General Mills and Kelloggs (hint: cereal), from which to choose and save. Get your grocery total up to $59 from amongst those choices, and use coupon code BTSBASIC to save $25 instantly.
Then it ships for free, and you’re stocked up. It’s a beautiful thing, people.
New Kohls clearance
There’s a new round of markdowns in the Kohls clearance section, finally, which is nice because I was tiring of the same 4 shirts in the Boys’ section that had been there for a month. Heh. Shipping is still free on orders of $75+, and Kohls cardholders can stack codes TAKE15 (15% off) and MVC5808 (free shipping, no minimum). No Kohls card? Use NEW7342 for an additional 10% off.
Most of the clearance items are summer-wear, but if you live somewhere hot, that’s back-to-school appropriate, anyway.
Back-to-school, revisited
The lovely Bec writes:
My son starts Kindergarten OMG really soon (8/26). I just did an archive search on Want Not and discovered your post of July 25, 2007, which said this:
Again—sadly—if you’re asking me this now, there’s not a lot I can do for you for this year. Sure, there’ll be specials here and there on certain school supplies, but on the whole, if you’re shopping now, the industry has you right where they want you: In need.
I am dismayed because my sister, whose kids are 10 and 13 and who has taught elementary school herself for many years, told me–when I got the school supply list back in April–that I should WAIT until August to buy school supplies. Is this just like the whole Christmas thing when we just *think* everything is marked down?
Bec’s email made me wonder if I’d been hasty in my judgment, last year. read more…
