Better Homes and Gardens for free

(Well, not an actual better home. Or even a garden. I’m talking about the magazine.)

Go join Start Sampling (which you should do, anyway, because they have lots of free stuff) and then grab your free one year subscription to Better Homes and Gardens magazine. There’s a link to register with SS right on that page.

I haven’t read BH&G for a while, but I seem to recall they have some good recipes in there. Also it’s always nice to have some magazines on hand for the kids to cut up, in my experience.

Free ink refills, one day only

Many thanks to pretty, pretty Frances for sending this one along:

If you have a local Walgreens, you can print out this here coupon and take it in for a free ink cartridge refill. The only catch is that it’s only valid tomorrow, Wednesday, September 12. (2007, of course.) And you need to have a Walgreens.

And an ink cartridge. Don’t forget about that.

We haven’t had one of these for at least a week

Hey, guess what time it is? That’ right! It’s time for another Restaurant.com code!

Now through September 16th, 2007, you can take 50% off your total order with coupon code EXTRA. That makes $25 restaurant certificates just $5, and $10 certificates just $2.

Don’t forget to check back for new restaurants; there’s a new one in my area since the last time I posted a deal. Maybe one of these days one of my favorite places will show up on that list. (Hmmm, doubtful, as I don’t think The Mellow Mushroom is going to get into dining certificates. Pity.)

Happy coming-of-age! Here’s a. . . a. . .

The lovely Katie writes:

Not sure if it’s the season for it or what, but my son has received 5 bar/bat mitzvah invitations over the past couple of weeks. Not being Jewish, I have no idea what’s expected here. I’m a single mom on a tight budget, so any ideas would be great. I know money is acceptable, in multiples of 18, but if you’ve got any great ideas for a tough age to buy for, I’d love to hear them. I hate the thought of giving cash, and would prefer to find an appropriate gift that won’t break the bank. Thanks for anything you come up with! I’ve got 4 boys and 1 girl to buy for. Ugh!

Thanks again! Love the site, check it daily!

This is definitely going to be a reader-participation type thing, and I’ll tell you why: Times change, and areas are different. I’ll give this one a shot but I’m afraid I won’t have any sort of “ultimate answer.” read more…

Luring you back with snack savings

Ever since the Veggie Booty recall, poor Robert’s American Gourmet has been working hard to win back their customers’ confidence. My guess is that sales are flagging a bit, which I think is a shame. Honestly—prior to the recall I’d never had a single problem with them. And I give them props for handling the recall well; many companies do not manage a situation like that with such grace and aplomb. Bottom line? I still love their products and will buy them with confidence.

So while I’m sorry that maybe the recall business has caused them to take a hit, I’m not sorry that one of the side effects is that many Robert’s American Gourmet snacks are marked waaaaaaaay down at Amazon. Cases of various snacks are selling for $7.50 and $10. Go poke around (even when you sort by price, it doesn’t always sort it correctly) and see if you need to stock up on snacks.

Early holiday shopping

In light of our discussion, yesterday, about keeping track of things you buy ahead, I think it’s only fitting to point out that right now you can get free shipping on your $50+ toy order from Target. So if you haven’t started shopping, now might be a good time.

I think you can use coupon code TCTARGETWELC for another 10% off your order, too.

The free shipping deal applies to stuff on clearance as well. There are some good deals to be had, and you don’t even have to fight your way through the unwashed masses in the aisles of your local store to get them. (Bonus!)

This time you can’t say it’s too expensive

Alright, my lovelies. I’ve got a great one for you, but you must get on this today. Like, right now. It looks like the offer expires tonight.

We’ve talked before about Dale & Thomas Popcorn, and someone always complains that it’s too expensive even with a coupon. (To which I say: Fine, don’t buy any. More for me!) Anyway, recently microwave popcorn has come under fire for safety concerns, so Dale & Thomas is seizing the opportunity to be good guys. If you have a local D&T store, you can go trade in up to two bags of microwave popcorn for replacement bags of yummy gourmet D&T popcorn.

No local store? No problem. Send an email to info@daleandthomas.com with the subject line Popcorn Trade-In and your name and mailing address; Dale & Thomas will send you a $20 gift card good towards anything in the store (online or brick and mortar).

What are you waiting for? Go!

Can you be organized while being prepared?

The lovely Jen sent this in last week:

Dear Mir-
You are so very pretty and I love your Want Not blog. I’ve gotten a number a good deals just from reading your advice — so smart and so pretty all in one package, I don’t know how you do it!

[Ed. note: The sucking up from my readers helps to fuel my energy. Heh.]

My question for you is about Christmas gifts. I know you suggest shopping for the holidays all year long and I’ve really tried to do that — this year even more than in the past. What I really want to know is how you keep it all straight. Do you have a running list of what you’ve bought and who it is for? Is it an elaborate spread sheet? Do you just throw it all in a closet and sort it out closer to the holiday? How do you know what you still need to get? Thanks for any tips you can pass along!

This is an excellent question, because gifts that you buy ahead of time and then forget about are no bargain whatsoever. read more…

Because I’d like to go back to bed

Goooood morning! I’ve just returned from a walk and am now bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. Except that I don’t have a tail. And that I’d really like a nap.

Anyway!

While I dream of returning to my bed, you can perhaps go shop for some linens. Why, there’s all sorts of stuff on sale over at the Designer Linens Outlet, plus you can use coupon code ENDOFSUM7 to take an additional 15% off of all sheets, towels and shams. Coupon expires September 17th, 2007.

Me, I’m gonna stick to ugly and/or uninteresting sheets… maybe even ones made of burlap… so that I can withstand the temptation to go back to bed.

Mmmm, free caffeine

It looks like you can get a free iced coffee from McDonald’s today. I’m not sure why. Maybe because they’re celebrating International… umm… September 10th Day! But I have a policy of never looking gift caffeine in the mouth. Er. Well.

Clearly I need more caffeine, is my point.
