Crazy deal on a photo printer? Check!
If you’ve been considering getting a printer suitable for doing your own photo prints at home, it’s likely you’ve found yourself overwhelmed by both the options and the typical price. And—fair warning—even once you buy the printer, it’s generally the ink that tends to get you, later, so I wouldn’t encourage this as an impulse purchase, or anything, but it can represent a lot of convenience and savings in the long run.
That said, it doesn’t get better than this: Right now Adorama is offering this Canon PIXMA PRO-100 Professional Photo Printer bundle deal so cheap, I sat here wondering for a minute if it was a mistake. The price is displaying on the site as $379 with an “Add to cart for lower price” button. Once you do the add, the price drops to $309, plus you get $50 worth of photo paper for free. Pretty great, right?
But wait, there’s more (she said in her best Ginsu knives voiceover tone)! There’s an available $250 rebate (really!) so you are now paying $59 out the door for a $400 printer. Basically you’re paying for the paper and getting the printer for free.
Again, I wouldn’t recommend it as an impulse buy, but if you’re in the market, this is the deal to beat. Crazy.
(For reference: This printer is averaging 4.5/5 stars on the Adorama site with over 400 reviews, and 4.2/5 stars on Amazon, where the price is still $378.)

You know how every year everyone is all But whyyyyyyy are the LEGO Advent calendars so expensive/hard to find/out of stock??? No? Okay, maybe you don’t have kids. Anyway! If you do normally go for them but forget until November and then have to deal with jerks on eBay, listen up: Right now Amazon has all three of this year’s calendars in stock, for less than the MSRP, but I doubt they’ll last.
The LEGO City Advent calendar is currently $25; the LEGO Friends Advent calendar is currently $24; and the best one, the LEGO Star Wars Advent calendar is currently $35.
I mean, feel free to wait a few weeks if you’d rather buy them for twice that from resellers. I’m not the boss of you.

The Holy Grail on nearly every holiday shopping list I’ve had since I’ve been a parent is some ridiculous LEGO set. Don’t get me wrong; I love LEGO, and I love that my kids have loved it so, but those little plastic bricks can be expensive, especially when there’s some sort of franchise tie-in. And you’ll see a few Black Friday deals, sure, but they tend to be few and far between and sell out quickly.
So! If you have a Star Wars- and LEGO-loving kid who saw the new movie and now is dying to get their hands on the 1106-piece BB-8 LEGO kit, I regret to inform you that it is currently marked down to $80 at Amazon, which is still insane, but significantly less insane than its prior price of $100. It’s also its lowest price so far, and while you might do a little better closer to Christmas, you might not before all the eBay resellers buy ’em all up.
Neither of my kids asked for LEGO this year, by the way, and I’m a little sad about it. Parenthood makes you nuts.

I used a Kindle for years before switching over to reading books on my iPad Mini, but I still snag the Kindle book deals (and use the app) all the time. And am I going to pass up a chance to get cheap books? Don’t be silly.

When my (now sophomore) college kid left us last year, I had done all the research and prep and shopping. She had everything she could possibly need… or so I thought.
Her roommate had a calendar whiteboard, and she did not. It did not matter that I’d had a duvet cover custom-made for her, or that she had a bulletin board, or that she even had coordinating throw pillows. No. She needed a calendar whiteboard. And I never bought her one, because I am the worst. I think she ended up buying one for herself.
Have a college student? Learn from my mistake. (This is a great graduation gift, too, of course.) Right now Amazon is offering this 16X20-Inches Aluminum Framed Magnetic Dry-Erase Calendar, with a Marker and Two Magnets for just $5.49. It is an Add-On, so you’ll need to toss it in with another order, but this is not only its lowest price ever, it’s about a third of what it typically goes for. Trust me, you won’t beat this price anytime soon. (The only thing I can find that comes close is those magnetic board that aren’t framed or rigid, plus you need a large metal surface to put them on.)
Am I buying a couple? Yeah, I learned my lesson.
Emergency chewing gum is a thing, people
I carry a purse that is probably too large and I often have a weird assortment of things inside of it. There are a few things I always have, though—my wallet, my phone, my keys, some lip balm, and… a pack of gum.
Yes, gum is as important as my keys. It’s perfect for a… uhhh… breath emergency, let’s say. Or to settle a stomach if you’re not feeling great. Or to distract a complaining child. Or to offer to someone else having a rough day. Insert something cheesy about gum sticking us all together here, if you like. I’m just saying I value chewing gum.
Right now Amazon has this 18-count box of Trident Cinnamon marked down to $5.48, for some reason, but when you buy via Subscribe & Save you save an additional 5% or 15% depending on how many items you have in your order this month. Listen, the current price without additional discount is already just $.30/pack, or a couple of pennies per stick. The additional discount just makes it even more stupidly cheap.
Santa always tucks packs of gum in the toes of stockings, here, and I always have a stash on hand, too. Plus, I can always use something cheap to get me to that 15% discount for the month. Maybe you can, too? If not, I’m pretty sure I have some gum here in my purse if you need a piece.
Fall? Finally??
It was 42 degrees out this morning when I woke up. Gloooooorious! (Fall takes a while to get to Georgia, y’all.) It’s warmer now, of course, but I think summer may finally be coming to an end. I’m wearing jeans. I am more excited about this than is maybe reasonable.

Convincing my college kids to pursue actual nutrition is… an uphill battle, at best. So I buy things like Carnation Instant Breakfast which is really just fortified chocolate milk powder, I know, but it’s 1) compact, 2) inexpensive, and 3) something they’ll actually consume, so—in other words—perfect for the dorm.

I’d rather they were eating wholesome, fresh foods, of course. But this will do in a pinch, especially at this price.
For your hipster toddler’s BBQ
I can’t stop laughing at this. I mean, we have a grill outside, and when my kids were little, yes, we had a plastic kiddie grill for them, too, but when only the finest replica will do, I guess this is what you get:
Amazon just marked down the Theo Klein Weber Kettle Grill Toy to $28, which is a good $10 cheaper than I’m seeing anywhere else (not even taking shipping costs into account). Expensive for a fake kiddie grill? Yes. But cheaper than usual, and yes, it looks exactly like the grown-up one.
Of course, it does come with a variety of fake food, including meats, so if your hipster toddler is vegan, I guess you’ll have to figure out a way to explain that some people think it’s okay to slaughter defenseless plastic cows just to get plastic steaks for their own callous enjoyment. Don’t even get me started on the plastic salmon farms! So inhumane!
Anyway, if this is the sort of thing you’re in the market for, the price is right.
The holidays are coming, believe it or not
Hello! I am not dead. I know you’re relieved. Life has been a little nutty of late. (Haha! That’s implies that sometimes life isn’t nutty. Ah, wishful thinking!)
I don’t know if you know this, but it’s already the middle of October. How did that happen? I’m starting to get organized for holiday deal-hunting and—of course—Big Prize Week.
