From one dinosaur to another (three)

My teenager recently referred to me as a dinosaur. I think she was somewhat deflated when I agreed with her. And then told her all about how in my day, we didn’t have iPod Touches, because we were too busy battling the other cavepeople over dodo-bird meat.

Nope, you can’t insult me with “dinosaur,” because 1) I am aware that I’m (comparatively) old, and 2) dinosaurs are cool, man. Just check out today’s Kids.Woot—they’re selling two-packs of dinosaur excavation and skeleton sets for just $5.99/pair. That’s pretty impressive when you consider that Amazon sells the Expedition Set for $11 + shipping and the Skeleton Set is $6.50 + shipping.

Get one or get all three. Stock the gift closet. Celebrate your own dinosaur status. Whatever. I may just pick up a few to decorate my desk.

Fellow gluten-free folks: Pamela’s deal!

I’ll admit it: I ran out of Pamela’s Baking Mix about a month ago, and I’ve just been waiting for a deal to stock back up, in the meantime. It’s hard to justify spending $7 on a pound and a half of gluten-free flour when you can buy five pounds of regular all-purpose flour for $2.50, y’know? Not that I’m bitter. Much.

Anyway, Amazon is offering 25% off Pamela’s products in May, simply by applying 10% off coupon code PAMGFMAY and then purchasing via Subscribe & Save for another 15% off and free shipping.

I’ll be grabbing 12 pounds of the all-purpose mix (and storing it in the freezer, natch) for just $28 shipped, which comes out to around $2.35/pound. Still a far cry from wheat flour, but a lot cheaper than it would be, otherwise.

The whole Gap family of perplexing discounts

Remember when Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic, and Piperlime (oh, and Athleta) all went to a shared cart system, and we were all, “Finally, we can use coupon codes at all of these stores!”? Yeah, me neither. Because they’d no sooner united all the stores on a common cart then they started reminding us that coupons didn’t work across sites.

Le sigh.

Regardless, if you like these stores, here’s a somewhat confusing list of what you can do today (and through May 8th):

At Old Navy, use coupon code ONSAVEBIG for 15% off your $50+ order or 20% off your $75+ order.

At Gap you can use coupon code GAPMOM for 30% off regular-price items (some exclusions apply)

At Banana Republic you can use coupon code BRSUNNY for 25% off your order, or the same code will give you 30% off if you use a store card to pay.

Got all that? Of course, if you were hoping for a couple for Athleta or Piperlime, I guess you’re out of luck. They’re a lot stingier with the coupons for those two.

Everything goes with blue jeans

I used to say I started working from home so that I could wear jeans all the time, but then it turned out that my standard of “dressed” has dropped over the years. Now I wear blue jeans to dress up! Because most of the time I’m in my pajamas, or yoga pants. Jeans mean I’m actually leaving the house.

Even though my standards are terrible, chances are you—like me—recognize the timeless comfort and cool of Levi’s, because they’re pretty much the original name when it comes to jeans. And this is the right time to shop them: Through the end of this week, many styles are up to 50% off in their Spring Sale, plus you can apply coupon code EXTRA25 to take another 25% off, on top of that. Sign up for their email list and they’ll give you free shipping, too.

If there’s a better excuse to shop for the whole family, I can’t think of one.

Taste of new recipes every month

Looking for new recipes? Over at Tanga today, they’re offering a year’s subscription to Taste of Home Magazine—the number one cooking magazine in the world—for $18. Not bad, I guess, but if you apply coupon code TASTE, you’ll get it for just $4. For the entire year.

Oooh, maybe you could pick this up for your favorite mom for Mother’s Day…? I won’t tell her you only paid $4 for it!

Good morning! Have some cereal!

How about a little breakfast food to start your day off right? You know what they say: breakfast is the most important meal of the day! (Also, I’m a poet and I didn’t even know it.)

Right now you can save 25% on Special K products at Amazon, by applying 10% off coupon code KELLOGG5 and then purchasing via Subscribe & Save for another 15% off and free shipping.

If granola’s your thing, this 5-pack of 19.5 ounce Low Fat Granola boxes comes out to just $14 shipped, or just under $2.50/box—about half what my regular grocery store normally charges.

Plenty of other bargains, too, on cereal, bars, crackers, and even their drink mixes. Definitely worth a look.

Smell good enough to eat

Have you noticed that I’m a sucker for yummy-smelling bath things? I totally am, even though I almost never buy them for myself.

I tend to make an exception for Philosophy, though, because their stuff is just so good for your skin, too. It’s like… like… like buying medicine, really. Yeah, that’s it.

Today and tomorrow (through May 4th, 2011), they’re offering free shipping on every order with coupon code shipsfree. Combine that with all of the specials they’re running—check out the “Summer Sale” section, especially if (like me) you love their chocolate covered cherries shower gel, yum. Find some sale items, ship ’em for free, teacher gifts done and maybe a little something for you, too.

Just in time for Mother’s Day!

Did you notice the barrage of Mother’s Day-themed commercials on TV this weekend and turn to your husband and say, “Wow, they sure are getting started early this year! Mother’s Day isn’t for, like, a month!”? And then your husband looked at you sadly, because you are cute, but not terribly observant? … oh. Just me, then? Nevermind.

Um, Mother’s Day is this weekend. (Just in case you didn’t know.) (But I totally did. Uh huh.) Here’s a tip—right now you can grab up a discount dining certificate or three at Restaurant.com and use discount coupon code MOM to make it a very timely deal. First, you’ll get 80% off their already discounted price, and will walk away with a $25 dining certificate for just $2. Second, each order will come with a unique $15 discount code to use at ProFlowers, just in time for that special gift you may or may not have almost forgotten.

Hey, I don’t judge.

Deck the halls with clearance

I thought around the beginning of May would probably be the right time to start scoping out markdowns at Pottery Barn Kids, and I was right. Take a look at their Seasonal Clearance—they have their jumbo quilted Santa stocking available for just $10 with free shipping. That thing retails for $40 and every single year I hear about people buying it on clearance and being so amazed at how gigantic it is (seriously, you wouldn’t use it for a stocking, you’d use it to hide a big gift) and how nicely made it is.

And then every year I decide not to buy one. And every year I regret it.

Hey, who says I can’t have Christmas in May? This is the year we get the ridiculous huge stocking, I think.
