No. Seriously, just NO.
Please tell me this is a typo. Or that I’ve stumbled into an alternate universe. Just do whatever it takes to convince me that Amazon isn’t actually selling chocolate-covered lentils. I love chocolate. I’m pretty fond of lentils. But this is an unholy union, my friends.
Blech.
American Girl minis, at smaller prices
I’ve always been slightly smitten with the American Girl Doll minis, both because the price is less horrifying than the full-size dolls and because anything miniaturized is automatically cuter. (And they come with a 3″ hardcover book, too!) Heh. Still, at $22/pop plus shipping from American Girl, they’re not exactly cheap.
Enter Amazon: They have a slew of miniature AG options for $15 or less, plus they’re eligible for free shipping. Bargain-basement cheap? No. A great deal over buying direct from American Girl? Heck yes.
Check out your options:
Molly is just $12.39.
Ruthie Smithens is just $13.46.
Rebecca, Felicity, and Nellie are just $14.93 each.
And finally, Elizabeth and Julie are also just $14.93 each, but these two are pre-orders and you wouldn’t have them in time for, say, Easter baskets.
Of course, if you had a little girl who’s been begging for a real American Girl doll and you buy her a mini instead, that’s kind of mean, I guess. But it’s also exactly the sort of thing I would do. Heh.
Pizza, anyone?
It’s a big day for Groupon, because they’re doing a giant national deal that (they hope) just about everyone will love. Today you can get a Groupon for an $8 large pizza at Domino’s, and that includes up to 10 toppings (that would normally cost you $20).
10 toppings?? I think my kids will eat two before they deem the pizza unacceptably besmirched. But I can probably feed this to my husband. Or buy it and just get two toppings. Whatever.
I like to make pizza at home (you know, so that I can make myself a gluten-free crust), but every now and then, a Pizza Emergency does arise. If I can solve it for just $8, I’m stoked.
(Limit one per order when you redeem, but you can buy up to three of them!)
For that one item you’re drooling over
Okay, first of all, you should try to refrain from drooling on something you really want, because then it gets all sticky and gross. Just sayin’.
Second, you know that when the item in question is something from Lands’ End it’s always just a matter of time before they have an awesome coupon, so hopefully you’ve been patient. And today is your reward! Or tomorrow, really. Through April 20th, 2011, pick out that one item at Lands’ End you have to have and then use coupon code APRIL40 with PIN 1164 to take 40% off and get free shipping. And yes, it works in the Overstocks, so this is the perfect time to get a new bathing suit or a cashmere sweater.
I’m going to recommend against wearing a cashmere sweater with your bathing suit, though. Just another handy tip I share because I care.
Rectangles of dubious awesomeness
You know how I feel about Pop-Tarts; I’m not exactly a fan. Both of my kids seem to view them as the Holy Grail of forbidden over-processed treats, though. I have no idea why.
If I was a nicer person, I might scoop up this 48-pack of Pop-Tarts at Amazon for just $8.60 shipped (assuming you still have Prime, or free shipping on $25+ with Super Saver Shipping). I suppose I might, anyway, for an after-baseball snack, or something.
Or to use as pavers on the front walkway. Whatever.
Make it Macy’s today
Today’s a good day to indulge in whatever you’ve been eyeing over at Macy’s, because today (April 19th, 2011) only, the more you spend, the more you’ll save.
Spend $50, save $10. Spend $100, save $20. Spend $150, save $30. And—yes!—spend $200, save $50. And don’t forget that all orders of $99+ now ship for free, every day.
See the site for exclusions, because (unfortunately) there’s kind of a long list of ’em, but if you’re buying something that’s not excluded, this is a great way to save.
Rue la late adopter
I think that just about everyone who enjoys these “private shopping sites” ’round the Internet is already a member at Rue La La, but just in case you’re not? They’re doing another “take this invitation and we’ll give you $20 to spend” promotion. Just use my invitation link and create an account, and they’ll credit you $20 to spend. (Good luck finding something that’s only $20, of course, but if you have designer taste on a more modest budget, they sometimes have really good deals.)
So just in case you’re slow, like me, now you’ve got monetary incentive to go ahead and hurry up—this is a limited-time offer. Enjoy!
By brand or by price; irresistible!
This morning 6pm.com is hitting me where it hurts—in addition to featured discounted brands for the day, they’re also providing handy links to shoes at $20, $30, and $40 price points. I’m trying to resist but I’m only human!
I’m hoping that providing sufficient shoe drool-age will keep you occupied for a bit; I’ll be tied up for a bit this morning and won’t be back until later with more deals, last week’s contest winner and this week’s chance to win something extraordinarily yummy. Be patient with me and I will make it worth your while, I promise!
Capri Sun deals, if you’re into that sort of thing
I send my kids to school every day with thermoses full of water, because I’m a heartless monster who doesn’t believe in sugary juice consumption as a regular thing. My children will doubtless require years of therapy to recover from my cruelty.
In the meantime, whenever it’s our turn to bring snack for baseball or whatever, I buy drink pouches. Because my meanness is a family thing. (Ha!) And then, of course, I want to get them as cheaply as possible. Enter Amazon: Right now they have three Capri Sun deals—get 4 10-packs of Tropical Punch, Strawberry Kiwi, or Roaring Waters Tropical Fruit for just $7.03 each, shipped, when you buy via Subscribe & Save. That’s under $.18/pouch, so if you pass that by, clearly it’s because you don’t even love your children.
(Meanie parents, unite!)
It’s a heavy-duty tool Sunday
If you’re getting into spring-cleaning-and-fixing-everything-up mode (and really, who isn’t?), you may want to take a peek at the Amazon Gold Box today. The featured deal is a Black and Decker cordless electric mower for $300 shipped, and while you’ll never get as much power from an electric as you will a gas mower, it’s more environmentally friendly and this one has great reviews.
Also, the current Lightning Deal is a Skil 18-Volt 4-tool combo pack for well over half off. I don’t know if you really need a reciprocating saw and everything else, there, but if you do, the price is certainly right. And then you could… um… saw and drill the things you cleaned. Or something.
Hey, it was kind of a long weekend. I never promised you I’d make any sense when I got back.
