The Want Not Review: Frederic Fekkai hair color
My pretties, I have a not-so-frugal confession to make. It’s true. Gather ’round.
Here it is: I spend a lot of money on my hair. I mean a lot. I have an incredible stylist and I love her, and she’s worth every penny. But oh how it wrenches my heart to fork over those pennies! The problem, for me, is twofold: First, that I have very curly hair (and experience has taught me that not everyone knows how to cut curly hair), and second, that I am both going gray at an alarming rate and my hair grows really fast. Someday I shall embrace the gray, but today is not that day, thankyouverymuch.
So what do I do? I wear my hair long and get away with 2-3 salon visits per year. And I spend a lot of time with ugly roots because I simply cannot afford to go drop $150+ every 6-8 weeks, as I probably should. My adventures with home haircoloring mishaps would fill a novel… until now. read more…
You’re darn Skippy
I’m a Jif girl, myself, if forced to declare a peanut butter allegiance. (Hippie alert: Actually my all-time favorite is Trader Joe’s Almond Butter with Flax Seeds, if you must know.) However, I’m willing to cook with any brand of peanut butter, plus the food pantry is always asking for peanut butter. So.
Check it out: Right now Amazon is offering 6 jars of creamy Skippy peanut butter for $13.05, which comes down to $11.09 when you buy via Subscribe & Save (which also gets you free shipping), and comes down to just $9.13 after coupon code UNILVR55. That’s about a buck-fifty a jar, and the cheapest brand-name peanut butter deal I’ve seen in a long time.
It may just be time to stock up.
It’s a good day to Kohls
Been meaning to pick up a few things at Kohls? Today and tomorrow, every item ships for just $.99 apiece. I like this promotion for when you don’t want to buy a bunch of stuff, now that they seem to have phased out the free-shipping-on-anything codes.
But wait—there’s more! You also get a lovely set of steak knives! Oh, wait. That’s not right. But they are doing Wednesday “Power Pricing” and there’s plenty of clearance in stock. Kohls card holders can use code YOURDAY15 for another 15% off, and everyone can use code NEW8874 for 10% off.
And not having to brave the crowds at the store? Priceless!
I scream, you scream
How much do I love my ice cream maker? So much. Nevermind that we’ve been on a record heat wave here in the south; if it’s homemade, it’s good for you. I’m sure of it. I happen to own this Cuisinart one, which works great, and believe you me, it’s getting plenty of use this summer.
Still, that’s not stopping me from eyeing this Cuisinart Duo Ice Cream Maker, which is currently $50 with free shipping at Amazon (via Buy.com). That’s only about $10 more than I paid for the single version, and would mean I could make one flavor for each kid, simultaneously. Or make a smaller batch so that I won’t eat so much.
Oh, who am I kidding? I’m never going to make a smaller batch. But let’s stick with the whole make-two-different-flavors-at-once concept. Yes.
Mmmm… delicious wheat treats
I’ve been off wheat for over a year, now, but I still dream of cookies, sometimes. The real kind, you know, that’s all wheat-filled and soft and yummy. Ahem. Sorry, I didn’t mean to drool on you, there. Let me just wipe that off….
Anyway, this deal is not for me, but assuming wheat’s not off the menu for you, you might want to check out the current special on Erin Baker’s items that’s happening at Amazon. Items are marked down, you get another 15% off and free shipping when you buy via Subscribe & Save, and you can also use coupon code ERINSBTS for another 10% off.
Really, now. Breakfast cookies. (And granola, too, but breakfast cookies, y’all.) This is the stuff that us gluten-free folks dream about.
Let him build it himself
Well, now that I’ve already gone and mentioned the holidays, why not another idea? Right now Amazon has this Light and Sound Tuner Vehicle Kit—basically a music-playing, remote-control car you build yourself—for $27 shipped. While their original price of $100 may be a bit inflated, the cheapest I’m seeing it anywhere else is around $65, so it’s still a pretty awesome deal.
Reviews are mixed, so consider the frustration level of your intended recipient before buying. As someone with a kid who loves nothing better than building it himself, though, I’m thinking I may chance it. (If nothing else, it’ll give him a ton of extra parts to use with his existing Erector collection.)
I’m dreaming of boots
Truly, it’s more that I’m dreaming of cooler weather, but what the heck—cooler weather means cute boots, am I right?
Among the slew of great deals at 6pm.com today is up to 65% off Gabriella Rocha footwear, which includes two entire pages of boots. They have the kind that looks like those boots my daughter and her friends all think are so cool. (I’m, uh, not going to say the brand. Except to say that it rhymes with ugh. Ha!) And they have rainboots. And they have simply gorgeous leather boots just dying to pair up with your skinny jeans once Fall arrives.
Decisions, decisions…. (Note to my husband: Oh, no, honey, of course I’m not buying more boots! That would be silly, because I have plenty already. Kind of. Um, love you!)
Pick up your tunes, for less
Okay, this one isn’t a screaming deal, or anything, but worth a look if you’re a regular iTunes user. Best Buy is offering their 3-pack of $10 iTunes cards for just $25 shipped. You could look at it as a measly $5 saved, or you could look at it as getting it for 17% off the regular price.
Better yet, look at it as an unexpected $5 bill in your pocket when you’re sorting the laundry, because that’s basically what it is.
(And I know someone is going to hit me for saying this… but… it’s not too early to pick up stocking stuffers. Ow! Okay, okay, nevermind.)
Hooray for free shipping!
Just in time for back to school, Hanna Andersson is offering free shipping on orders of $100+, automatically. And there’s still plenty of “school deals” specials available until mid-August, too.
While I wish they’d do these shipping promos during their big clearance sales, now that they have their every-day-priced very güd items, it’s still a great excuse to do a little shopping for the softest cotton clothes around.
