Gone pickin’
Today I am unreasonably excited, because I’m finally going strawberry picking. (Sometimes the best bargain is less important than gorging yourself on fresh fruit. True wisdom!) Before I go, though, let’s see what delights we can find….
The Amazon Friday Sale is still limping along; you can buy tea, coffee, or toys. Because… I have no idea. All I know is that if you have a gadget nerd, this Erector Spykee Vox is kind of a nifty robot project for under $100.
Moving on…. the Target Daily Deals have a cute little black dress, some penguin towels, and an exclusive Harry Potter DVD. Don’t forget coupon code 2ROZVVHX for an additional 10% off, too!
I think the Conair hot stones thingie in today’s Graveyard Mall deals is a pretty good bargain if you’re looking for one, but I love how one of the other deals is a—wait for it—combination cheese grater/wine opener/pepper grinder. Because who’s not in the market for one of those? Ha!
6pm.com‘s got Stride Rites for under $20, so while you’re picking up some discounted Naots for yourself, you can pretend you’re shopping for the kids. Awesome.
Been to the Plow & Hearth Outlet lately? Take an additional 30% off for a limited time with coupon code STOCK. Just sayin’.
We’ll see what turns up later, after I’ve had the chance to eat my weight in strawberries. (Oooh, wait. Fresh daiquiris here later? I think yes.)
It’s not too late
Got the “oh no I forgot to order some flowers for Mom” Mother’s Day blues? Don’t sweat it; there’s still time to scoop up one of the Mother’s Day specials at FTD, many of which are up to 40% off for your bargain-seeking pleasure.
Yes, flowers for Mother’s Day are a terrible cliche. But who doesn’t like flowers? Plus you know you’ll get it there in time. I’m just trying to save your lazy behind help.
Not what I had in mind
Listen, I just don’t think a sale on kids’ clothing in honor of Mother’s Day is a very good idea. I mean, I appreciate the discounts, but how is that something for me? Does it come with chocolate? Does someone massage my feet while I place my order? I think you understand what I’m trying to say.
Nevertheless, you know I’m a sucker for markdowns at Children’s Place. Which is why I’m going to give them a pass for offering this as a Mother’s Day sale: Through May 9th, use coupon code MOMS2010 to take 20% off your $50+ order. (Ordering less than that? Use code C4A4A for 15% off any size order.)
But this is not a suitable Mother’s Day gift, even with the $4.99 sale going on. As long as we all understand that, it’s okay.
Apparently I’m going blind in my old age
So, um, did anyone else notice that up at the top of the 6pm.com page there’s a banner that claims they’re on day 5 of their eight days of deals for moms?
… did anyone else see that any of the previous (supposed) 4 days? Because I sure didn’t.
It goes live at 9:00 am Pacific, which is in about 6 minutes. I’m leaving to go to the dentist (don’t hate me because my life is glamorous) so I fear I will miss the big unveiling of… whatever it is. Keep an eye on it for me? Let me know if it’s something awesome?
Also, I totally think they’re lying about this being day 5. But I forgive them, on account of the pretty, pretty shoes. You know how it is.
Artistic photos? No problem!
If I didn’t talk you into it the last time it was on sale, consider yourself lucky and/or smart (in addition to pretty, natch)—today Amazon has the Canon EF Mount Lensbaby on sale for just $48! That’s less than half of what the manufacturer charges, and 40% less than the current Adorama price.
If you have a DSLR and want a really fun lens to create tilt shift effects without spending large chunks of cash, I can’t recommend a Lensbaby highly enough. You can get the hang of it really quickly and it makes shooting a lot more interesting.
Or, in my case, it allows you to stupidly shoot things out of focus and then explain to your photographer husband that you totally meant to do that.
How to be the best kid ever
Scrambling for a Mother’s Day gift? If you order an Amazon Kindle today, it’ll be delivered by tomorrow for free, and you are guaranteed to be the favorite child this weekend.
Alternatively, you could inform your significant other and/or children that they’re getting you one, I suppose.
It’s a little rich for my blood, personally, but the free 1-day shipping might be enough to knock you off the fence if you’ve been considering one. Or if you were totally rotten and have a lot to make up to Mom, this would be a good idea, I suppose.
Light up the night
If you like to play with fire, you might want to take a look at today’s Target Daily Deals—they’ve got a nice sturdy firepit available for just $99 (half off). Coupon code 2ROZVVHX should still be working for an additional 10% off, making this just $90 with free shipping (all 64 pounds of it).
What I like about this one is that it appears to have a wide perimeter around the actual fire-holding part, for greater safety when it comes to little fingers. It’s kind of neat looking, too. And how much fun is making s’mores in your own backyard?
Cute shoes (and earworm) ahoy
Do you know the old Coca-cola commercial, where they sing, “I’d like to buy the world a Coke” all happy-like? (Or—if you remember the original—“I’d like to teach the world to sing” is actually the song it’s b)ased on.
I can’t help it; I vow to pass by 6pm.com for a day, and then I end up looking, anyway (of course), and when I see Polliwalks on sale for just $7.95 I just find myself humming.
I’m telling you, I can’t help it.
No, I don’t want to buy the world a Coke, or teach the world to sing. I’d like to buy your babe some ducks, to wear on his small toes….
Stop laughing at me.
Seating, storage, magic
I’ve been looking for a few storage ottoman’s for the kids’ space, even though intellectually I know they will only end up crammed full of “treasures” and make me insane, a hopeful and emotional side of me believes that it will help magically hide the mess and make things more organized.
I know, it’s cute when I’m like this.
Anyway, at just $16, I can certainly afford these nesting storage ottomans from Kohls, because at that price, I can afford to have my hopes and dreams dashed.
(Shipping is just $.99/item right now. Anyone can use coupon code THANKS1498 for an additional 15% off, too.)
Hand-held penguins
I know a bunch of us went ahead and grabbed this around the holidays when there was a deal available, but for the rest of you (or for the gift closet?), check out today’s Amazon Video Game Deal of the Day—it’s the Club Penguin: Elite Penguin Force Collector’s Edition Bundle for just $13!
Eligible for free shipping on Prime, or get your order up to $25+ for free Super Saver Shipping. (The obvious: If you have two kids, get two. Mine have never actually come to blows over Club Penguin, but we’ve had a few dicey moments.)
Peeking over the kids’ shoulders at the game and commenting that you don’t think those are real penguins is optional but highly hilarious. To me, anyway.
