Let’s do the time warp again

Once upon a time my computer had a catastrophic hard drive failure, and lo, I was one sad puppy. My last back-up was several months prior, and boy did I feel stupid about it.

After witnessing the aftermath (read: after I spent several days crying and breathing into a paper bag), my husband went out and bought us an Apple Time Capsule, and now the Time Machine software automatically backs up my computer every hour. Now, the Time Capsule is hardly a cheap item, and I can certainly understand people who can’t take it as a business deduction (I did) feeling like it’s a bit out of their price range, even for the incredible peace of mind it affords.

But today is your lucky day, friends. Today Buy.com has a refurbished 500GB Time Capsule available for just $140 shipped. That’s crazy. Remember, the Time Capsule works with both Macs and PCs, and also functions as a wireless router.

Also, I whisper sweet nothings to mine on a regular basis. But that’s not required, really.

Good news!

Two pieces of excellent news for you this morning:

1) I have decided to live. (I know you were worried.)

2) In addition to the usual suspects on sale at 6pm.com today, they’ve also provided a handy link to “Great new discounts” in both men’s and women’s shoes (scroll down the main page a bit to see them), and it’s a veritable cornucopia of brands and styles at those rock-bottom 6pm prices we love.

Frankly, I wouldn’t blame you for being more excited about the second item than the first one. I kind of am.

Shoes of unnecessary quotation marks

Okay, I get that Reef is a hot brand of flip-flops for the cool kids, and that I will probably never understand a beach sandal that’s regularly priced at over $50. All of that aside, I was just cruising the Reefs at 6pm.com (because they’re only around $20, there) and came across this Reef Fanning that has a bottle opener built into the sole.

A bottle opener. In your shoe.

My favorite part is that in the bulleted feature list, it says: Church key to open your “soda” bottle. Uh huh. It’s to open your “sodas,” fellas.

The mind, it boggles.

Annie get your mac (and snacks)

Hey, it’s March… and a new month means new Amazon grocery deals. Today I’m eyeing the current deal on Annie’s Homegrown: Buy any eligible product—which includes organic mac-n-cheese, gluten-free mac-n-cheese, and a variety of other kid-friendly snacks—and take a total of 25% off the already-reduced price. First, save 10% with coupon code ANNIEHM5, then purchase via Subscribe & Save to get another 15% off and free shipping. (You can always cancel the S&S afterward, so don’t worry about that.)

Boxed mac and cheese is one of the few convenience foods I’ll still buy. There’s just something about it that screams “comfort food.” Of course, when I buy Annie’s, it can do that without also screaming “what chemicals do you suppose made the cheese bright orange?” Ahem.

What’s for dinner?

Just a quick reminder, in case you missed it when I posted it a couple of weeks ago: The annual Taste of Home $5 Cookbook Sale has just a couple of days left, and it’s a great time to beef up your cookbook library or stock the gift closet. (Who doesn’t like getting cookbooks? People who don’t like to eat, that’s who. And that’s… nobody I know.)

Shipping is automatically free on orders of $20+, or use code 1062 for $1 shipping on any size order, or code 347 for free shipping on $10+.

Just think—you could have holiday teacher gifts done before the end of March, you awesome planner, you.

While I was dying. . .

… they brought back $.99 shipping on every item at Kohls, and I almost missed it. Today is the last day. (I would’ve told you sooner, but I was busy dying, as previously mentioned.)

Now that I’m all doped up on prescription cough medicine (wheeeee!) I’m going through the clearance there and noticing all kinds of delightful little deals, so it’s worth a look.

Today is also the last day to save 15% on your order with coupon code MVC365 if you’re paying with a Kohls card, and for the rest of the week you can use code NEW6814 to save 10% no matter how you pay.

I would totally be shopping right now if I could keep my eyes open for longer than fifteen minutes at a time.

Get fundamental, or think about Spring

The next couple of days are good ones to shop at Old Navy; through March 4th, 2010, the Fundamentals Sale is still going on, plus you can take 20% off new Spring styles with coupon code ONSPRING. That’s not even mentioning that code ONFREE75 is still working for free shipping on $75+. Except that I just did. Mention it, that is.

My kids are always happy with clothes from Old Navy, and you know I’m always happy when I don’t actually have to go to the store. Total win.

The price won’t make you say ugh

Today’s Amazon Gold Box is filled with Bearpaw boots for just $30, and they look suspiciously like some other very popular boots that my daughter swears “everyone has,” but that make me say something that sounds a lot like the brand name when I see them. What was it, now? I don’t know; it was just on the tip of my tongue a minute ago….

(Great time to pick up a pair to put away for next winter, is all I’m sayin’.)

Ommmmm

Thinking of taking up yoga? You’ll need a mat, but hopefully you don’t pass out when you see what most yoga mats cost. Alternatively, save yourself the stress and just hop on over to the Target Daily Deals, where today they’ve got a premium yoga mat for just $7 (closer to $6 when you use 10% off coupon URTYJLI8).

I find it’s always a good idea to have a yoga mat around. You never know when you’re going to need a nap. Er, a stretch. I totally meant a stretch.

Rice is nicer when the cooker’s on sale

In the market for a rice cooker? I pink puffy heart ours, as I’m (for some reason) incapable of making rice properly without one. It all started for me, years ago, when someone asked about rice cookers, and I was introduced to the land of fuzzy logic and all sorts of other things I’d never known before. For example: Did you know that if you have a high-end rice cooker, you can make risotto in it without having to stand there stirring it forever? It’s true! My rice cooker is a Sanyo, and I like it a lot, but deep in my heart I’ve always longed for a Zojirushi, which seems to be the top-of-the-line brand.

Right now Amazon has the Zojirushi NS-WAC10 Micom Fuzzy-Logic 5-1/2-Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer available for $100 shipped, which is the lowest I’ve ever seen it. Certainly nothing you want to pick up on a whim, but if you’ve been in the market for one of these, this may be the deal for you.

Besides, “fuzzy logic” and “Zojirushi” are just a lot of fun to say. (Hey, I have a fever. I can’t be held responsible for what I say today.)

[Edited to add: Look in the “More Buying Choices” column on the right to find the $99.99 Amazon offering.]
