Wear pretty shoes to my funeral

Have I mentioned that I’m sick? I think I’m dying. I also think I’m fairly melodramatic, so maybe I’m not really dying. But it feels that way.

Just in case I’m on my way out, it seems that 6pm.com has put all of my favorite shoe brands on sale today. Born, Clarks, Charles David, Michael Kors… there’s plenty of choices at deep discounts, whether I survive this virus or not. Am I being too maudlin? Hey, it’s a special kind of friend who uses her flu as an excuse for you to buy more shoes. I’m a giver, that way.

Entertainment corner

If you’ve been looking for a little TV for that spare room or whatever, check out today’s Amazon Gold Box—they’ve got a Toshiba TV/DVD deal that may fit your space and your budget. Just $170 shipped gets you a 15.6″ LCD flat screen and the ability to play your DVDs and CDs, all in one.

It’s the sort of thing I would buy for my kids if I wasn’t so busy vying for Meanest Mom of the Year. Oh well.

Paging all carnivores

If you have a big freezer and the resources/means at your disposal, if you eat meat I encourage you to look into buying a local animal—it comes with a smaller carbon footprint, and generally a much better taste (and more assurances about what, exactly, you’re getting). But that’s not possible for everyone, nor does it make sense to, say, buy half a cow if you’re only a family of two, or whatever.

Another option is to buy from Omaha Steaks, particular during one of their half-off sales (like now). Buy the amount that suits your needs, and it all arrives packed in dry ice. If you’re not 100% satisfied, their unconditional guarantee will refund your money.

We’ve gotten gifts from there several times and I’ve always been happy with what we’ve received. Plus, it’s fun to play with the dry ice.

Zero calories, zero weird chemicals

If you haven’t discovered stevia yet, but you’re trying to cut down on sugar, consider this the all-natural answer: Stevia is a plant-derived sweetener with zero calories, zero carbs, zero chemical compounds invented by people in labs. I use sweeteners very rarely (generally I’d rather just go without) but lately I’ve started using stevia in muffins and the kids haven’t even noticed. Shhhh.

Want to try it out? For just $1.99 you can pick up a 50-pack of stevia packets at Amazon; either add it to your Super Saver Shipping eligible order, or pick it up for free with that free Prime trial you should still be enjoying.

Saturday deals

A few quick deals before heading out, this morning, but I promise to make it up to you later with a contest. Don’t be mad, baby.

Eddie Bauer is celebrating 90 years today (can you believe it?), and for one day only, coupon code EB90TH will take 30% off most everything.

This weekend is your last chance to shop Shoes.com and use coupon code SHOES20 for 20% off regular prices and CUPID for 15% off items already on sale.

In the meantime, 6pm.com has tons of shoe deals this weekend (as usual) but they’re also having a huge denim event, and have Oakley sunglasses marked down, too.

Love foreign films? Today’s Amazon Gold Box is stuffed with an 8-pack of foreign language DVDs.

And of course there’s another One Day Sale at Macy’s and a big Weekend Sale at Kohls going on, just like every other weekend. Heh.

Must dash; later I’ll return with goodies, and we’ll kiss and make up.

Friday, keep it down

I have to go in and have breakfast with my son’s class this morning. As you can imagine, the very idea of starting my day with a large group of children has… ummm… caused me to get up early to start my day with the Amazon Friday Sale, instead. Ahem.

You know that the newly-downsized sale has made me sad, what with the fewer offerings, but it’s all okay, Amazon, because today you’re featuring Oskri Organics Honey Granola Bars, and I love those (and I love getting a box of 20 bars on Subscribe & Save for just under $12, too).

Of course, there’s a billion (okay, maybe not a billion) sets of pots and pans for sale, too. And if you need a testosterone boost (and really, who doesn’t?), check out the Gold Box deal—today they have The Undisputed Rocky Collection on Blu-ray for just $38. (I’m not telling you what to do, but Father’s Day will be here eventually, you know. I’m just sayin’.)

If you only buy one thing today? Pick up a set of these Rubbermaid Produce Savers (which are currently about half off). My stepmom introduced me to these and they. are. MAGIC. Never throw away yucky produce again! Love these.

Elsewhere: 6pm.com is singing my song, today. Discounts on Timberland and Tretorn, if you’re looking for shoes, but even better? Up to 75% off Lucky Brand. (Swoooon!)

Over at the Target Daily Deals, I spy a very cute Junior’s top and a nice grill pan, among other things.

I have to go rally the troops (and by “rally the troops” I of course mean “cruelly wake up the kids”), but perhaps this afternoon will bring some more deals….

Drugstore deals

I often forget all about drugstore.com for a while, and then I’m all, “Oh yeah! I love them!” when I realize they’re having a good sale. I don’t know why I space out about them all the time. Possibly because even I cannot get too excited about shopping for toilet paper and razors.

Anyway, right now they’re having their big anniversary sale, with markdowns of up to half off. There’s also the great gifts under $10 section, and—of course—their instant coupons. Lots and lots of goodies to be had, is my point.

Sure, they’re still razors and toilet paper and stuff, but doesn’t this make it a little more fun?

The secrets of the dailies

The lovely Emily writes:

Well hello there, Mir! I was hoping you could post a list of websites
that offer daily deals. I know that lots of companies are doing this
and I love Target’s but would love to check a few other sites on a
daily basis. Thanks so much

Well, I hate to give away my secrets, but… okay, they’re not really secrets. As it turns out, just about every day one of the things I do for Want Not is take a tour through all of my favorite sites that offer daily deals, and the ones that I think you’ll like best, I go ahead and post. But if you want to do it yourself, that’s cool, too.

Daily deals at Amazon: Every day I check the Gold Box, the Grocery Specials, and the video game deal of the day. When I remember, I also check the MP3 free deals and specials, too.

Sites dedicated to daily deals: That means Woot, Kids.Woot, Thing Fling, Daily Steals, and Tanga.

Daily deals on sites we like: There’s a whole bunch of places that have a daily deal without being a site completely dedicated to daily deals, and I make the rounds through those each day, too. Several of these are going to look very familiar. (*coughcough6pmcoughcough*) They are: The daily specials at 6pm.com, the Target Daily Deals (always free shipping!), the Meijer Daily Steal (this one changes at noon, so sometimes I check it early but forget to check it later, my bad), the LL Bean Daily Markdown, Graveyard Mall‘s Deal of the Day, the Barnes and Noble Deal of the Day, and—as we learned I discovered yesterday—the Fabric.com Deal of the Day. Another thing I do is check the What’s Shakin’ list at Buy.com for recent hot markdowns.

This may not be an exhaustive list. I haven’t had my second cup of coffee, yet. But I think that’s most of my favorites.

I hope that helps, Emily!

Prettier than bricks on their heads

I keep talking about how putting bricks on my kids’ heads has totally failed to keep them from growing, and it’s always true and yet I’m always surprised. (This weekend my daughter came downstairs in a pair of sweats halfway up her calves and I told her to stop stealing her little brother’s clothes. Turns out they were hers, a pair I just bought last winter.)

Thank goodness there’s new promotions at The Children’s Place so I can stock up on cool clothes at great prices. Through March 7th, 2010, use coupon code C99AA for 15% off your order, and today and tomorrow (February 25th-26th), you can also use code FSFEB2010A for free shipping on your $50+ order.

It’s not as good as finding a way to freeze them as little ones forever, but it’s pretty close.

Sew right

Are you a quilter? Seamstress? Other person who… ummm… sews stuff? (Okay, you caught me; the extent of my sewing ability stops at reattaching buttons.) You might want to check out the Deal of the Day at fabric.com, because today is Wednesday, and Wednesday means it’s the Wednesday Web Busters.

Sure, it sounds a little painful, but I think they mean it’s special prices on stuff for Wednesday only. I mean, I’m pretty sure.

Shipping on your $35+ order is always free, and a lot of their fabrics certainly look pretty, even though I’d have no idea what to do with them if I bought any….
