Squeaky clean teeth

I’ve had my ultrasonic toothbrush for about six years, now, and it’s finally starting to give up the ghost. So I’ve been poking around looking at getting a new one.

That’s how I happened to discover that right now, the Sonicare FlexCare with Sanitizer is down to just $130 shipped at Amazon. Still hardly chump change, but it’s a good $20 cheaper than I’ve seen it elsewhere.

There’s also a $15 rebate available, too, that would make it $115. If it lasts me another six years, that’s… less than $20/year. Hey, when I think about it like that, it seems a lot cheaper. Heh.

Give the gift of a sugar high

Hey, Valentine’s Day is coming up. Soon my children will be clamoring to buy little cardboard cards at the store, and we’ll be arguing over things like whether or not it’s ever appropriate to hand your friends a somewhat scantily clad Miley Cyrus (answer: no).

Actually, forget all that. This year I’m ordering this box of Valentine’s Fun Dip from Amazon for just $10.84 shipped (with that awesome free Prime trial I have right now). It’s 144 packets of Fun Dip with cards, which means it’s character-free (no arguments!) and, you know, sugar, so both kids will be thrilled.

And 144 packets sounds like a lot, I know, but given that this stuff should have an almost infinite shelf life, I can just hang on to it for next year, too. Heh.

If you only own one DVD set

I remember when we received Planet Earth on DVD as a holiday gift, a couple years back. It felt like we were the last people on the planet to finally see it, and when we did, the entire family was just entranced. It’s incredible.

And so this year when we finally went for the flat-screen TV and the Blu-ray player, I remember thinking, “Gee, I’d love to go ahead and get the Blu-ray version, but it’s so expensive. I guess I’ll wait.”

So I waited. But today’s the day I stop waiting—right now Discovery Store is having thei semi-annual DVD Sale, and the very first thing on the list (which is a special for today only) is Planet Earth on Blu-ray for just $25! Shipping is $4, and that’s still lower than I’ve ever seen it.

Don’t let this one get away, if you’ve been waiting on a deal.

I can’t wait to see all those weird creatures in high def. It’s possible I need more hobbies.

Saturday deals

Goooood morning! It’s a gray and rainy day here, but fortunately the best online bargains aren’t weather-dependent. Thank goodness. Here’s some ideas if you’re shopping online today….

Did you get a new Nintendo Wii for Christmas? Check out today’s Target Daily Deals—they’ve got a Wii Travel Kit for just $17, and it has everything you need to take it on the road. Of course, if you need a tent, a webcam, or a cute clutch, they’ve got those, too. Don’t forget coupon code URTYJLI8 for an additional 10% off!

6pm.com has the usual crop of amazing deals for the weekend, though I’ve got my eye on the $25 or less Bandolinos, personally….

After yesterday’s lackluster Friday Sale, Amazon is trying to make it up to us today with a treadmill deal in the Gold Box (the shipping savings is really what makes that one), and also you can download 99 Brahms Masterpieces for just $2. I love those cheap MP3 deals; it’s how I’ve filled my iPod. Hey, one more—they’ve also got select holiday merchandise marked up to 70% off!

The winter sale and clearance at Macy’s is still going on, and I keep returning to look at pretty things I probably don’t really need. Ahem.

And there’s sales and clearance happening at Taste of Home right now, too—I often shop after the holidays and tuck stuff into my gift closet for teachers’ gifts, from here. Make it even better: Use coupon code LST18 to save 15% on $25, 20% on $35, or 25% on $45+.

It’s the Last Chance Sale at the Disney Outlet—use coupon code OUTLET20 this weekend to take an additional 20% off already slashed prices.

That should keep you busy for a while, right? Try to stay out of trouble.

That’s the final straw, Friday

Look, I realize I’m cranky today. I’ve got a neck thing going on and I haven’t slept well and I feel old and grumpy. But only three categories to the Amazon Friday Sale? It’s like they don’t even love us anymore.

Nonetheless, if you need pots and pans, they’ve got a ton of deals. If you’re looking for that old school oh-my-gosh, I-can’t-believe-this-is-in-the-Friday-Sale rush, however, I doubt you’re going to get it this week. Alas.

I’ll try to dig up some more interesting deals later on today, but right now I have to go eat my weight in Advil. (It turns out that day three of a neck injury is the day when you start wishing for death in earnest, in case you were wondering.)

PJs for your Skinny Minnies (or Mickeys)

When my kids were little I bought Disney PJ Pals as their sleepwear almost exclusively; they’re cotton, not polyester, which I think it a lot more comfortable. And they have characters the kids liked. But most importantly, for whatever reason the PJ Pals are cut very slim, and if you have skinny kids you know how hard that can be to find.

Oh, wait. That wasn’t the most important part. No, the most important part is that periodically they go on crazy-good sale. Like now! Surf on over to Disney and check out their selection of PJ Pals for just $5.99 each. Coupon code SHIPTODAY is still working for flat rate $5 shipping on your $89+ order, and I know that’s a pretty high threshold, but at these prices, I’d buy ahead, anyway.

I kind of miss those days. It’s been a long time since my daughter thought Ariel was “so pwetty.” Sigh.

The shoe dilemma of bigger-footed gals

The lovely Amy writes:

I have an 11 year old daughter (5ft. 9in. tall and wears a 12 wide woman’s shoe)……Yes, this is true!

We are not having much luck finding shoes in her size that look like an 11 year old and that don’t cost a FORTUNE!!!

I have looked on the sites like 6pm.com and some of the others that you post on your blog.

She has one pair of bearpaws (boots) that we found in a size 12 that were on sale and a pair of new balance tennis shoes that we found on sale….but as far as a cute flat in a size 12 that doesn’t break the bank, we are not having any luck……she is very picky, also… so that doesn’t help……

Do you know of any sites that have CHEAP Birkenstocks that are CUTE and in a size 12 or European size 43?

So there are three problems here, actually.
1) It’s hard to find shoes in size 12.
2) It’s hard to find shoes in size 12 that are appropriate for a child.
3) It’s hard to find size 12 shoes appropriate for a child that don’t cost an arm and a leg.

Let’s see if we can come up with any solutions. read more…

Anchor your GPS

So you finally got that Nuvi or TomTom you’d been coveting over the holidays. Hooray! Now you’ve had it just long enough to discover that it’s really inconvenient to try to attach that suction cup thing to your windshield, or that on cold days it falls right off.

It turns out that a GPS unit isn’t all that useful when it’s rolling around on the floor of your car. True story.

What you need is a handy dashboard mount. I have one in my car and I whisper sweet nothings to it when no one is looking. My husband likes it so much that Santa brought him one, too. Long live the dashboard mount! No more craning to reach the bottom of the windshield, no more *thunk* as the GPS clatters off when I go around a sharp turn. Bliss.

Today you can snap up the Sticky Pad dash mount from Buy.com for just $10 shipped, and it’ll work with any GPS unit you own. It works via friction, which means you can move it from car to car and it doesn’t leave any marks or residue. What’s more, the nubby surface doubles as a place to set your cell phone or PDA and keep it stationary while you drive. It’s a twofer! (For reference: It’s only $3 more at Amazon, but you won’t get free shipping if you don’t have Prime. Great reviews over there, though.)

Trust me, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it.

Buy coffee, give to charity

It should be enough that a portion of any purchase of Halo coffees sends some money towards helping kids in need, but if it’s not, try this: Right now Halo Coffees are deeply discounted at Amazon, so you can save money, get your caffeine fix, and do a little good, all at once.

If you need pods for your Senseo, those are the best deal. Currently 6 packages of 16-count pods will run you just $14 shipped with Prime, or buy two to qualify for free Super Saver Shipping.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to finish immersing myself in this cup of coffee I have right here. (Is it my imagination, or did morning come earlier today…?)
