In case those bricks aren’t working

Honestly, I’m this close to allowing my children to take those bricks off their heads. They really don’t seem to be slowing down the growing process at all. Hmph.

If you, like me, find yourself browsing the Monster Sale at the Children’s Place for certain rotten children who refuse to stop growing, you might be interested to know that there’s a new coupon available. Use code C99AA for 15% all orders.

Now if they had a code for freezing time, I’d be all over that.

Banish cold toes

Are your slippers falling apart? It’s okay; you can tell me. My last pair of slipper was held together with duct tape for a while before I succumbed and got new ones. (That may have veered out of “frugal” and all the way to “dumb.” I’m aware.)

Today’s Amazon Gold Box deal is 65% off all Slippers International slippers, and there’s pages and pages of options.

And not a single roll of duct tape in sight.

Saturday deals

Good morning! Hey, I never did contest winners last week… will get to that later today, along with another quick chance to win goodies. Pinky swear.

Bargain hunting today? Let’s see what we can find.

Oh my stinkin’ cuteness… check out the (personalizable) lunch sacks available on the Company Kids Sale of the Day—just $5 each, available in a variety of adorable patterns. Use coupon code SAVEBIG to ship your order for free, too.

This weekend 6pm.com has J-41, Nine West, Columbia, and the incredibly warm yet cute La Canadienne boots all on discount.

The Target Daily Deals include a dip-dye cardigan I sort of love. (I may be turning into Mr. Rogers; my interest in cardigans lately is not quite normal.)

They’ve restocked the Outlet over at Coldwater Creek with clearance prices of up to 80% off, and you can use coupon code WHP1031 for free shipping.

Been looking for a smoking DLSR camera deal? Check this out: Right now Amazon is offering the Canon Rebel XSi kit (that includes an EF-S 18-55mm lens) with a bonus $200 discount when you add the associated EF-S 55-250mm lens and Tiffen UV filter to your cart as well; adding both to your cart and applying coupon code DOUBLEIO gets you the whole shebang for $621 shipped. Nothing you’d want to pick up on an impulse buy, but this is several hundred dollars off if it’s something you’ve been waiting for a deal on.

That should keep you busy for a while. I’m off to tend to the family for a bit, but will be back with contest-y stuff in a little while….

C’mon, Friday

It must be said: The Amazon Friday Sale has been… well… a little lackluster the last few weeks. I don’t know if Amazon is just a little tired from the holidays or what, but it’s time for a turnaround. I want the kind of Fridays we used to have. Will today be the today? Let’s find out!

I still think these kiddie flannel duvet covers are adorable—choose the Princess one for girls or the transportation one for boys.

If you’ve ever admired Rachael Ray’s oval pasta pot while watching 30 Minute Meals and wondering why she’s so relentlessly perky, you’re in luck! I still don’t know why she’s so perky, but that 8-quart pot is down to $55 shipped, plus it’s eligible for a $10 magazine rebate, effectively making it just $45. (Pssst… they have the whole coordinating cookset on sale for $130, too.)

If you want eco-minded non-stick pans, the ubiquitous Friday Sale Earth Pan set is back down to $115, plus you can get that $10 magazine rebate.

Aaaaaaaand… Amazon, you’ve got to get your groove back. Today isn’t it.

In the meantime, don’t forget to check out the Gold Box for a great deal on a 32″ HDTV, plus there’s still over 800 MP3 albums for just $5 available.

I have to get my kids off to school, but I think after that Amazon and I are going to have a stern discussion.

In case you must Max

In case you missed the news, Max Factor announced this summer that they won’t be selling their cosmetics in the US anymore. I didn’t feel like this was huge news, as a person whose favorite mascara brand is, um, “something black,” but I know a lot of women who are very worried that their favorite product is disappearing.

Well, I happened to notice at the store the other day that supply finally is drying up—there were a bunch of empty shelves where the Max Factor stuff usually goes.

If you have a favorite Max Factor product you fear losing, you might want to check over at drugstore.com; they still have a pretty good selection, and once it sells out, it’s gone. I’m not seeing any crazy deals, but if they have the One True Eyeliner Of Your Dreams or whatever, I wouldn’t wait for a sale.

(Of course, “something black” is always on sale somewhere. Heh.)

Get your bluetooth on

I adore the concept of a bluetooth headset… I simply lack the organization to keep track of something that small, and keep it charged. Oh well.

Perhaps you’re more together than I am (like that’s hard…) or, indeed, you’re equally scattered and you can’t be spending a lot of money on things like headsets. Either way, you might want to take a gander at this Samsung WEP470 bluetooth headset currently available for $23 at Buy.com. It has an available $20 rebate, so when all is said and done, you’ve only spent $3 on it!

Several of the Amazon reviews claim the noise reduction capability is even better than the Jawbone. Wow. I’m willing to risk $3 on that.

Smoothies for picky children

The lovely Michele writes:

You mentioned last week that your kids love smoothies. I ordered the protein powder that was on special at Amazon last week and now I’m wondering what to do with it – can you share your favorite smoothie recipes, please?

This isn’t my usual sort of deal topic, but I’m sort of a smoothie fanatic, so I’m happy to talk about this until the cows come home. (Full disclosure: I have no idea if cows like smoothies.) My kids, collectively, have been gracious enough to present me with the following issues at various points: Picky eating, new braces (and mouth pain), reluctance to eat in the morning, vegetarianism (and the need for getting creative about nutrients), sensory issues, and an extreme need for a fast/simple breakfast.

Smoothies have proven a success on every front, and now even the dog goes and sits down by the kitchen table when I turn the blender on—she knows it means breakfast is almost ready.

So, yeah, I have a few things to say about smoothies. Let’s have a bit of a smoothie primer, shall we? read more…

Cute shoe alert

Oohhhh, I swear this one is not me just being gratuitous about shoes; my tween now wears women’s sizes and needs black shoes for band concerts, but it can be very hard to find something age-appropriate in her size. Today as part of the Target Daily Deals they have an adorable Rocket Dog patent loafer—perfectly suitable for middle school, or for a grown woman’s casual day—for just $15 shipped! Use coupon code URTYJLI8 for an extra 10% off, too, making them just $13.50 to your door.

And they also come in fuchsia, which is so adorable I may have to get a pair….

(Note: According to the reviews on Amazon, they run about a half-size large.)

Buy more, save more

Did the laundry eat your favorite shirt? Did your children grown six inches overnight? It happens to the best of us. Or, at least, it happens to everyone I know.

Now’s a great time to restock at Old Navy; through January 18th, 2010, the more you buy, the more you’ll save! Use coupon code SAVE123 to take 15% off of $75+, 20% off of $100, or 25% off of $150+.

The Spring “must-haves” are all in stock, and the Clearance section is fairly bursting with bargains. I, uh, don’t really need anything right now so I’m trying not to look. (Imagine me peeking at the screen through my fingers.)

Netflix + Wii = BFF

I think I may have mentioned a time or twelve that we received an HD Roku for Christmas and I love it like a third child. Quite simply, it rocks my socks off. Whereas before our cheapie Netflix subscription meant a disc would come in the mail and we’d leave it sitting on top of the television for three months, because no one really wanted that particular movie at that particular moment, now it’s all: You want movies for your sleepover? Bam, added to the live streaming queue! I should try some Pilates? Bam, there it is, ready to go. I pink puffy heart live streaming.

And so of course I wholeheartedly endorse the purchase of a Roku—I think it’s well worth the cost—but I know it’s not necessarily for everyone. Say, for example, that you already have a Wii, but a Roku just isn’t in the budget right now. Well, then, you should go reserve your Netflix Live Streaming Disc, which essentially turns your Wii into a Roku. It’s free, and if you have Netflix, a Wii, and a broadband connection, you too can learn the joy of live streaming when the discs are released this Spring.

(Do note: This renders in standard definition. If you want high definition live streaming, go check out the HD Roku, instead. The Netflix disc has the distinct advantage of being free, though.)
