Insert Friday ATM sounds here

Is it just my kids, or do your kids remember everything they need money for on Fridays? This morning was “Mom I need my yearbook money” and “Mom I need money for field day” and “Mom gimme all your money.” (Okay, that last one was a kid trying to be humorous.) Still. Who knew these kids were going to be so expensive? You did? Oh.

Thank goodness for the Amazon Friday Sale—I still have a few pennies leftover for something for me.

Like, I could get these New Balance running shoes for as low as $27, depending on the color/size. Then I could run away before the children ransack my wallet!

Holy crow, it’s a cookware extravaganza, this week! Choose from Cuisinart non-stick stainless ($140), Calphalon commercial ($155), Cuisinart non-stick anodized ($131), Cuisinart classic stainless ($110), Anolon 10-piece (126), or Anolon commercial 12-piece ($180). There’s truly something for everyone.

Oh, look! My mixer (the one I’m lusting after, anyway) is on sale! There’s a free ice cream attachment rebate valid right now, too, through the end of May.

If you’re a real maple syrup fan, you know that due to the weird winter we had, sugaring was waaaaaay off this year, and syrup prices have skyrocketed. That said, these deals on Grade A and Grade B pure organic maple syrups are really good—you get 64 ounces for $35. Alternatively, get 32 ounces of Grade A dark amber from the same farm, although not certified organic, for $16.15 after Subscribe & Save. (We gave up the fake syrup products years ago, but it means that we are very sparing with the real stuff! Still, I’d rather have this than a puddle of the imitation kind, personally.)

Avert your eyes from this next one if you’re easily offended: Um, a friend of mine told me that this product is quite amazing. (It really was a friend, but I know no one is going to believe me….) And, um, it’s about $5 off the normal price and can be mailed to your house without you having to look anyone in the eye, soooo….

Love the Friday Five? For the entire month of May it’s supersized—choose from 50 MP3 album downloads for just $5 each! Way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, Amazon!

And if you’re a crafter, hobby sewer, or just someone looking to get started, be sure to check the Amazon Gold Box deals today—there’s a really nice high-end computerized Brother sewing machine for under $150. (They claim the regular price is $450, which is obviously inflated, but even considering the real regular price of around $200, it’s a great deal.)

Have a great Friday, everyone!

Free shipping at American Girl

It only happens a couple of times a year, but it’s happening right now: Use coupon code P599016 to receive free shipping on your order at American Girl.

There are some great books in the sale section. I don’t bear all that much love for the “must-have” matching girl/doll clothes that cost an arm and a leg, but I’ve always been very pleased with the books from the American Girl series.

And you know how I feel about free shipping.

Simples are great for kids, too

I know I posted the Simple shoes deal at 6pm, the other day, for us grown-ups. But did you know they make great shoes for kids, too? Those are harder to find on sale, but if you hop on over to Endless today and search on Simple in the kids’ department, you’ll find a bunch of awesome choices (complete with free shipping and free returns!) for under $10 for Simple-lovers with smaller feet.

I’ll just be over here in the corner, reminding myself that my kids do not need any more shoes….

Mama likes cookies

Still looking for that perfect Mother’s Day gift? Ever since the untimely death of my mixer, I’ve been trying to convince my family to get me this little gadget (what? I use it to make stuff for them, I think that’s fair!), but if you’d rather let someone else do the baking (and if you’re not up for spending hundreds of dollars), you should check out the plethora of goodies at David’s Cookies to celebrate the big day. You can use coupon code MDAY09LS for 15% off, too, and shipping is either $4.95 or free, depending on what you select.

Mmmmm… cookies.

Laptop deals, maybe

The very pretty Carolyn writes:

I’m hoping you’re able to help us find a new laptop for a reasonable price. My laptop seems to be dying. It overheats all the time, the battery died long ago, and the power cord disconnects for some reason every once in a while. The one we have is about 4 years old and I think it’s about time to look into a new one. My husband and I use the laptop mainly for paying bills, internet surfing, using iTunes, and storing digital pictures. We of course don’t want to spend any more money than necessary so if you have any suggestions on how to shop for a laptop or even a specific deal that you think is great, we would really appreciate it. Thank you for such a great website!

Actually, Carolyn sent me this question a while ago and I took my time getting around to it because I have very specific opinions on these things and I know they’re really not for everyone. But then I realized I might as well just say that. So I’m going to.

As most regular readers know, I am a Mac person. I haven’t always been a Mac person, but you know what they say—once you go Mac, you never go back! (Thank you, thank you. I’ll be here all week. Don’t forget to tip your waitress!) read more…

I’ll just apologize in advance

If you have a small boy in your house, you doubtless already know the joy of certain small plastic and metal magnetic creature… ball… things. I find my son’s Bakugan stuck to the lamps, littering the kitchen counters, and all over the floor. And he wants to tell me about them, endlessly. Their names. Their hit points. Their special spells. It’s… fascinating, really.

Ahem.

Anyway, remember when Bakugan were impossible to find, around Christmastime? Although they’re easier to locate, now, the prices haven’t exactly been bargains. Until now! Through May 4th, 2009, Amazon is offering the Bakugan booster pack for just $2.99 and the Bakugan Starter Pack for just $6.99. Free shipping eligible, too. (Having a Bakugan birthday party? Party favors!)

But if this gets your kid started with Bakugan, well, I apologize for bringing it up. It’s just that misery loves company….

Coupon for the Creek

It’s been a while since we had a coupon for Coldwater Creek, huh? Just in time for Mother’s Day, I’ve got a coupon code here for you: Use WKH4237 through May 2nd, 2009, to take 30% off your total purchase and receive free shipping! It works in the Outlet, too.

You can buy Mom something pretty. Or you can say, “Hey, wait! I’m Mom, and I deserve something pretty!” Either way.

Don’t forget your month-end stock up!

April is nearly over (how exactly did that happen??), and that means that the current batch of grocery deals at Amazon are winding down over the next few days. Be sure to stock up on the ones you want before they’re gone!

If your kids like granola bars, go for the Nature Valley deal—$15 off your $39+ purchase. Many of the flavors are listed at $39 for 12 boxes, which means that after Subscribe & Save and the coupon code, you’re getting 12 boxes for $18.15 shipped to your door. That’s just over $1.50 a box, and you didn’t have to step foot out of your house to get it, either.

Just, um, don’t get these if your kids are in braces. G’head, ask me why. Ahem.

Get your geeky on

I’ve just been scolded for being tardy in alerting you to the fact that today’s Amazon Gold Box deal is Photoshop Elements 6 for the Mac for just $49.99. I am duly chastened. And do check it out if you want more functionality than iPhoto provided, but you’re not ready to go whole-hog to the full Photoshop software. This is a nice compromise; you get a lot of functionality for not too much money.

Also, the current Lightning Deal is the Starship Troopers Trilogy on Blu-ray for $39.45. Might be a nice Father’s Day gift for the geek in your life….

I’ve got your ice cream excuse right here

It’s 31 Cent Scoop Night at Baskin-Robbins again! (And thanks to everyone who sent this in. It’s cute how y’all still think I might miss an opportunity for cheap ice cream. As if.) They’re raising money for the National Junior Firefighter Program, and did you miss the part about the cheap ice cream? I mean, sure, good cause and all. But more importantly: cheap ice cream.

Limit of three scoops per person. So don’t be walking in there with a fistful of ones and a cooler, or anything.

That’s tonight (April 29th, 2009), 5:00 – 10:00 p.m. at your local Baskin-Robbins. Enjoy!
