The only thing better than cheap snacks. . .

… is free snacks!

Okay, this is probably a mistake (I’m sure it’s a mistake), but do you remember my post about Honest Foods Country Squares from a couple of weeks ago?

The deal is that you can use a coupon to buy one, get one free. Except that apparently, the code is working to allow you to… buy one, get that one free. With free shipping. There are only two flavors left in stock right now, but if you add just one to your cart, apply coupon code HONESTFD and go to checkout, it should show up as completely free.

And you can place more than one order this way.

The orders may all get canceled, but who knows? Worth a try. (Thanks, Sarah!)

Tote your tunes, fear-free

Just so we’re clear, here: I have an iPod. Before my iPod, I had a couple of other players, both of which broke (one in just a few months, the other in about a year). I’m a big proponent of buying quality and getting the thing that will last, and I dearly love my iPod.

But.

Sometimes you don’t have the money to shell out for the Good Stuff. Or you have it but don’t want to spend it on that. Or you want something you don’t have to worry about getting stolen at the gym. Or you have a kid who wants something and you don’t want to go top-shelf because, hello, this is a small human who sometimes forgets to wear pants. There are lots of reasons why you might want to go cheap on something, with good reason.

And if you want a decent but cheap MP3 player that fits any of those criteria, you should take a look at the Sansa c250 2GB MP3 player available at Buy.com for just $14.99 with free shipping. It’s refurbished, but that’s still a heck of a price. Plus the MicroSD expansion slot means that you can easily exceed the 1,000-song internal memory capacity if you want.

And the under-$15 price tag means you can drop it or lose it without having a coronary. Bonus!

Can you smell me now?

There are many, many things I love about being a mom. And many, many things I love about my kids. But I have to tell you that if I’d had any idea how bad their sneakers would smell, I might’ve gotten a puppy, instead.

Febreze has a new product out called Febreze SPORT, and thought they’re trying to fancy it up, it’s primarily for stinky shoes. Does it work? I don’t know—yet. Go sign up for a free sample and perhaps we can all achieve olfactory nirvana together. Or at least start coming up with better nicknames for our kids than Stinky McStinkerson.

It’s like extending Friday to Monday

I do so love a good Kitchen & Home Sale at Amazon—it feels like a bonus Friday Sale. On Monday. And sometimes also on Tuesday.

Okay, it’s possible that the metaphor broke down at the end there, but you get the idea.

The possibilities aren’t endless, but they’re pretty plentiful. Like, there’s the Roomba Dirt Dog for just $94.99, or either the Hoover SteamVac Spinscrub Pet for $142.99 or the Hoover SteamVac Dual V for $159.99 (all with free shipping). Why, yes, my carpets do need cleaning; how did you know?

There’s a ton of cookware sets and silverware sets on sale, as well as an assortment of wine openers. Need a down alternative comforter for under $40? How about some gold satin sheets? (For the record, I think those are hideous. But at that price they’d be a hilarious bridal shower gift for the right person.)

This is my kind of value furniture: It’s a bench! It’s two ottomans! It’s storage! It’s trays! (It’s a floor wax and a dessert topping….)

Hey, who can’t use a little Friday in their Monday?

Mindful Money: Thinking about refinancing

For many people, the recent situation with the economy (do you like how I call it a “situation with the economy,” all genteel-like, sort of like how during World War II there was a situation with Germany?) has had dire consequences. Unemployment is up. Housing values are down. And the reality is that many families who were doing “okay” or “fine” before this are now barely hanging on.

If you are one of those families, this post is not for you. (You’re in my prayers, but obviously a refinance is not the solution to your situation.)

This post is for those of you who are still pretty much okay; who have a sizable (but manageable) mortgage that has not outrun your current property value; and who still have stable income and a decent credit rating. You should be thinking about refinancing right now. read more…

Towels that look like summer

Yes, I did move from New England to Georgia, and yes, I am still sitting here, mid-January, wishing for summer. While it’s true that I no longer have to dig my car out of the snow, winter still isn’t my thing. It’s cold. (Well, colder.) It’s dark. It’s dreary.

I tell you this to preface my excitement over today’s Deal of the Day over at The Company Store, because 70% off towels is pretty fabulous, anyway, but 70% off brightly-colored towels that remind me of summer is kind of awesome. I’m just sayin’. Those bath sheets would make decadent pool towels!

Make it even better—use coupon code T6WELCOME for free shipping, too.

Twice the Rabbids

Amazon is running a special: Buy Raving Rabbids TV Party, get the original Raving Rabbids game for free!

I’ve not played the new TV Party game, but the original version is one of our favorites. And I hear the new game can be played using the balance board from the Fit. (With your rear end. Yes, really.)

TV Party was new this holiday season and cost $50; it’s now marked down to $39.99 and then you get the other game for free, and of course you can get free Prime or Super Saver Shipping. This is a fabulous deal.

Because, really, haven’t we all had days when we really needed to shoot at some demented rabbits with toilet plungers? I think we have.

Saturday deals

Good morning! I am going to go shopping at a real store this afternoon. With a friend. I’m a little frightened, because isn’t shopping something sacred that takes place between a woman in pajamas and a computer that she loves very, very much? I think so, but my friend swears she’ll be gentle with me. We’ll see.

If you’re staying in the safety of your house today, here’s some deals you may want to check out.

It’s time for a Shoes.com Saturday Sale! Great deals, for one day only! Purchase $100+, and you can use coupon code NYSHOES20 to save an additional $20 (some brand exclusions apply).

The Discovery Channel Store is offering The Best of Earth, Sky & Space Set (that’s Planet Earth, Sunrise Earth and When We Left Earth) for just $19.95 for standard DVDs or only $24.95 on Blu-ray. Even with $4 shipping, this is a tremendous deal.

This weekend there’s a big Clothing Clearance Sale going on at Overstock.com.

Didn’t snag yourself a new calendar for the new year? Over at Shutterfly you can make yourself a photo calendar this weekend for free—just use coupon code CALENDAR12 and pay only shipping. (Thanks, Sara!) Sorry folks, that one appears to be by invitation only. My apologies.

Need some snacks? Hickory Farms has up to 75% off on their site right now, plus coupon code SIZZLE will give you another 25% off those markdowns. (Thanks, Megan!)

Shop Coldwater Creek through January 22nd, 2009, and you can use coupon code WKH1132 to ship your order for free. (Thanks, Kristi!)

And (of course) there’s another big Saturday sale going on at Kohls, with “power hours” online today until 4:00 p.m. Eastern. Don’t forget your coupon codes—MVC6692 gives free shipping and EXTRAMVC15 gives 15% off to Kohls card holders (coupons can be stacked), and non card holders can use NEW2378 for an extra 10% off, too.

Wish me luck, today. It’s scary out there.

Friday frosting-palooza

My son has one of those over-the-holiday-break birthdays. And I don’t want to be the mother who gets the kids all jacked up on sugar the first day back from break. So—despite the fact that he’s already had three different birthday celebrations (it’s hard, being him)—today’s Amazon Friday Sale comes with a side of two dozen cupcakes for his class. (With sprinkles!) We know how to end a week, ’round here.

Need a backpack? Say, one with a special padded compartment for your laptop? Check out this Columbia Cyberpack Backpack for just $14.99 and free shipping eligible. This is also a good one if your college student came home over break complaining about a wrecked pack, and you had to deliver a lecture about the value of money and taking care of your things. (See, you could buy this one and pretend you spent a lot more, to keep the guilt trip going.)

Sure, it’s a little late in the season for knee-high boots, but not if they’re 58% off. I’m not made of stone, people. (Though I do like how they call the 3.5″ heel “mid-height.” Remind me never to buy “high” heels from Amazon!)

While $37.99 isn’t a huge reduction on the Zojirushi Mr. Bento, it pretty much never goes on sale. Also, it’s eligible for the 4-for-3 promotion, which is always nice.

Need just a couple of pans, maybe as replacements or to start off a newly-on-their-own kid? Check out this Calphalon pair for $39.99. They’re just the right size for cooking for just one or two people, and they’ll last forever. (If you need the entire set, that’s on sale, too.)

The Dream Supreme pillows are back (winner: best pillow name ever)! They’re $25.99 for a pair, which is supposedly 76% off. Great reviews.

The world’s best tea—PG Tips—continues to be an excellent deal, provided you drink a lot of tea (I do!) or have friends with whom to share. Choose 640 tea bags for $25 ($21.25 with Subscribe & Save), 320 tea bags for $14 ($11.90 with Subscribe & Save), or 240 tea bags for $12 ($10.20 with Subscribe & Save). I know I hawk this tea all the time; it is one of my very favorite things. (And unlike Oprah’s favorite things, mine are actually affordable for us commoners.)

Eating gluten-free? Stock up on Pamela’s Ultimate Baking Mix—3 64-ounce packages are just $30 ($25.50 with Subscribe & Save). We did a brief gluten-free stint here and I feel confident telling you that everything except the Pamela’s mix that claimed to be a viable baking substitute tasted like sand. The Pamela’s was actually pretty good, though.

Don’t forget to check out the Friday Five, five MP3 albums for just $5 each, today only.

Have a great Friday, and here—have some extra sprinkles.

Ship it for under a buck

If you’ve had your eye on just one thing at Kohls, and you don’t have a Kohls charge so that you can get free shipping, today is the day to order: They’re offering $.99 shipping on every item.

So, it’s not a particularly good time to buy socks, but it’s an excellent time to buy, say, some cast iron. Just sayin’.

(And you can still use coupon codes, too! Card holders can use EXTRAMVC15 for an extra 15% off, plus code MVC7424 for free shipping on any order. No card? No problem! Use code NEW1343 for 10% off.)
