Saturday deals

Gooooood morning! Do you live in Atlanta? I’m going to be at the Beehive Co-Op from 4-7 today as part of a promotion for Sleep Is for the Weak. Please come by and say hello!

If you’d rather stay home and shop in your pajamas, I understand. Here’s some suggestions:

Don’t own the Planet Earth series on DVD, yet? (It is truly one of the greatest series we’ve ever watched; I highly recommend it.) Well, sometimes waiting pays off—right now at the Discovery Store, Purchase Planet Earth and When We Left Earth, The NASA Missions for $79.99, saving almost $70. Basically you’re buying the one and getting the other for free. Fabulous family viewing!

There’s still lots of clearance going on at Red Envelope, and through September 19th, choose either free shipping on $75+ through that link or 5% off $50+ through that link.

Overstock’s weekend coupon is $60 off $600+ through that there link, which is great if you’re planning to furnish your entire house, or something.

The new 2009 Entertainment Books are available, and right now they ship for free. This is a fabulous gift for your favorite cheapskate, or just to get for yourself.

Jonesing for a new Restaurant.com coupon? Through September 7th, 2008 (that’s tomorrow), use code GRAND to take 50% off your purchase, netting you $25 of dining for a cool $5. (By the way: Every time I post one of these, someone emails to ask me if this deal is “real.” Yes, it’s real. I’ve used them for years without any problems—this is a great example of an easy deal if you’re in the know.)

There’s about a billion things on sale at Target, but of course I can’t help noticing that if you spend $50+ in Women’s, you get free shipping. Dude—I could spend $50 in Target with my eyes closed. Please.

Have your eye on something special at Coldwater Creek? Through September 9th, 2008, take 25% off any order with coupon code WXH5116. (Thanks, Michelle!)

I think that’ll do it for today. Have a great one, and if you can come on out to the Beehive, come say hi!

Fridays were made for Amazon

(At first I was going to say that Amazon and Fridays go together like chocolate and peanut butter, but then I remembered that my daughter has suddenly turned up with a peanut allergy, so that just seemed kind of mean. Whoops!)

There’s so many reasons to shop at Amazon today, it’s nutty. First, there’s the Friday Five, five MP3 album downloads for just $5 each. Then, there’s a whole new crop of grocery clearance for September (use code CLRNCFTY to take an additional 55% off mostly already-reduced prices). And finally—of course—there’s the Amazon Friday Sale.

Need a tent?

There’s lots of cookware set deals in the sale, today: Choose from KitchenAid ($129.99), Calphalon ($139.99), or Cuisinart ($149.99).

I am sorely tempted to buy this fancy Cuisinart slow cooker, as it’s both very purty and has a timer (something my current crockpot lacks)… but it’s only 4 quarts. It’d be perfect for cooking smaller amounts, of course.

Got allergies? Get the Dyson DC17, specifically for asthma and allergies. (Yeah, it’s still really expensive. But $80 less than anywhere else.)

You know how hypoallergenic pillows usually cost an arm and a leg? These ones only cost a couple of fingers.

Have a wonderful Friday, everyone, and remember—friends don’t let friends pay full retail!

When in doubt, I go to Kohls

Not the store. The website. The store is aaaaaaaall the way across town, for me, and besides, I have a Kohls card—that means that I can pretty much always get free shipping. Which means I can shop from my computer and be lazy, which is my favorite. (Right behind my family, chocolate, and bacon.)

Anyway. What? Hey, I think I need another cup of coffee!

So, if you’re wanting to shop Kohls, there are (of course) plenty of coupons available. For card holders, use MVC5421 for free shipping and MYAUGPICK for 15% off. Not a card holder? Shipping is currently just $.99 per item, automatically, and you can use NEW4107 for 10% off your order.

It looks like the clearance was recently updated; I picked up a couple of tops that weren’t there before. While I was shopping for my kids. (And now you know the real reason I like Kohls so much….)

Great gift for a weather nut

Do you know a weather nut? You know, someone who actually enjoys watching the Weather Channel when they show Storm Stories or things like that? (Life of the party, those people….) If so, you might want to check out this set of two wireless weather stations with bonus DVD seticon at Linens ‘N’ Things. Two receivers means you can get the forecast twice as often, and the DVDs cover tornadoes and blizzards, which is… um… well, hey, that’s interesting if you’re into that sort of thing.

Anyway, the whole shebang is now half-price at $24.99, plus you can use coupon code 26620000008 to take an additional 20% off. $20 for two weather stations and two DVDs is a pretty good deal.

C’mon—we all know someone for whom this is actually a very apt gift. Sadly.

Old Navy’s plus-size fashion forward

I’m not one to declare a single clothing store the be-all and end-all, but I’ve always appreciated how Old Navy carries the basics. Need a t-shirt? Old Navy! Need something cute and trendy, yet affordable? Old Navy!

And now they’ve greatly increased their offerings for gals in sizes 16-30, exclusively online. Check out Old Navy’s new Fall plus-size collection and trunk show video to see just how fabulous you can look even without being a toothpick. (Because, really, who is buying all of those Size 0 clothes? Maybe my 10-year-old.)

It’s fresh, affordable fashion for those of us who don’t have great big buckets of money to spend every season. (In fact, I just watched the video, and now I’m looking to see if they have some of those pieces in Misses sizing, too, because man, there is some super-cute stuff in there.)

For the navigationally challenged (again)

Because maybe you got lost on your way to it, the last time I posted this deal.

Amazon currently has the Navigon 5100 GPS Navigator on sale for $159.99. This version comes not only with text-to-speech (which is awesome—my GPS just says “turn left” or “stay right” and never announces street names, which I now sorely wish we had), but with a lifetime traffic subscription so that it’s all smart and can tell you “Hey, don’t go that way, there’s a huge traffic jam.”

I don’t know if it actually says that. But it totally could.

It’s a good deal, is what I’m saying.

Santa probably shops at Amazon

I had someone write in recently (sorry, I haven’t woken up enough to even make my coffee, yet, so forgive me for not remembering who) to ask if there are ever any deals on Lego sets. And my answer was “Not really, but yes, of course.” That’s because Lego is one of those things that’s always so in demand, we don’t often see the huge markdowns on it that we do on some other things, but sure, occasionally, the good deals are out there.

This is really just a fair-to-middlin’ deal, price-wise, but given that they’re hot holiday toys and may even be hard to find the closer we get to December, I thought it was worth posting: Amazon has various Lego racers marked down right now—most are 25% off. (A few are closer to 30% off, like this one.)

And if you find Lego annoying, I have just one word for you: Bakugan. Thank your lucky stars if Lego is still the hot toy in your house. I’m just sayin’.

Insert your own joke right here

As much as I adore Eddie Bauer, I think that calling this latest sale the Semi-Annual Pant Event is just leaving themselves wide open for bad jokes. I’m just sayin’.

Nevertheless, place any order with them that includes any pair of pants, and you can take 20% off your order total with coupon code FALRESH8, through September 22nd, 2008. And guess what! There’s plenty of pants in the clearance section, too, so you could make the most of this one pretty easily.

You know, while you’re panting. Or whatever. (Sorry, I couldn’t resist.)

It’s my Windex

You know how in My Big Fat Greek Wedding, the heroine’s dad uses Windex on everything? I use Aquafor on everything. Well, not everything, but lots of things. Chapped lips? Aquafor! Rash? Aquafor! Dry skin? Aquafor! Booboo? Aquafor! Life crisis? Rum! (What, you think Aquafor is going to cure that?)

Anyway, I do love having a little thing of Aquafor in my purse as emergency lip balm. Why don’t you go get a free one for your purse? And I’ll be sure to let you know if I see any free samples of rum, too, but this will have to do for now.
