Free shipping at Company Kids
There are some stores I adore, though the regular prices cause me to fan myself like a fancy lady in an old movie. Ahem. Nonetheless, when I saw that select items at CompanyKids are shipping for free, I had to check it out—just in case something wasn’t too expensive.
Well… it’s still kind of expensive. But they have a wide assortment of Little Missmatched items, which I have never seen on sale anywhere, and are unbearably cute and maybe a nice little splurge for the holidays, or something. Coupon code KIDSTUFF will give you another 20% off one item, too.
I feel like such an enabler. I’m standing on the corner in a trenchcoat, polka-dotted socks tucked inside, whispering to passersby, “Pssssst! Wanna buy something cute?” I’m ashamed. Truly. Well, a little bit, anyway.
You know the drill
There’s a new coupon code out for Restaurant.com—try to contain your shock and wonder. Through the end of the month, you can use coupon code LABOR to take 60% off dining certificates, which means you’ll get $25 worth of dining for just $4 out of pocket.
And don’t forget—restaurants get added all the time, so if you’ve never been able to find a participant in your area, keep checking back. Maybe today’s the day your favorite is in there!
Good silverware, bad math
If you’ve been wanting new, good-quality silverware, you might want to check out this Oneida “Flight” service for 8 for $40.14.
In case you’re wondering? The service for 4 set is $44.73.
Yeah. Don’t try to make sense of it. Can’t be done.
Looking for a CD?
(Certificate of Deposit, that is. Not music.)
If you’ve been thinking about buying a CD (I have) but are dismayed by the current interest rates (I am), you might be interested to know that WaMu is currently offering 5% on 12-month CDs.
I totally think banks should offer pricematching. “Hey, ING? Yeah, I found a better rate elsewhere. But I’d love to leave my money with you. Can you match it? You can? Thanks so much! You’re pretty!”
Perhaps the perfect little camera
Don’t let my husband the professional photographer see this post, but when most of the world looks for a “decent” small camera, we’re not talking about something in the $500 range. (Go figure.) For most of us, something in the $100 – $200 range will get us something suitable to carry in a purse or throw in a beach bag and take pretty good pictures.
Granted, I’m a layperson (read: average human) when it comes to these things, but if you do a little research you’ll find that the Canon Elphs are generally well-reviewed and pretty powerful little cameras for the money. I have an Elph, myself, and I love it. Even if my husband does occasionally mock it.
Today Amazon has the Canon PowerShot SD1100IS camera marked down to $179.95 with free shipping, which is the cheapest I’ve seen it. Read the specs, but this is one of their top Elphs, with image stabilization and all sorts of fancy things. Really a nice little model.
Use “Bill Me Later” and you can apply coupon code BMLDEALS to take another $20 off, too! (Remember—if you don’t really want to use BML, simply first purchase $159.95 worth of gift certificates, then go back in to buy the camera using BML, and you’ll be able to use the discount but pay with your certs. Awesome.)
This isn’t the sort of thing you’ll pick up on a whim (I hope!), but if you were looking for a decent camera, this should definitely be a contender. Four and a half stars after 188 reviews seems like a good bet, no?
Good news, bad news
The good news is that Fashion Bug was having a One Day Appreciation Sale.
The bad news is that it was yesterday, and I forgot to tell you. Um. Oops!
The good news is that they extended it another day, so you can still shop the sale all day today (August 25th, 2008). Hooray! It’s an automatic 40% off regular prices and an additional 20% off already-reduced sale prices.
The bad news is that I’m still sort of a doofus for forgetting to post it.
The good news is that you forgive me because there are also coupons. Hooray! Use coupon code 776230807 for free shipping on $50+, or 776224107 for another 10% off any size order.
It’s not too early to start holiday shopping
I know there are those of you out there who want to smack me for suggesting you start your holiday shopping in August. But I also know that there are those of you who finished long before August even arrived, so hopefully it all evens out.
Anyway, right now Toys ‘R’ Us has hundreds of items with free shipping, including the fabulously cool Playmobil Christmas items which typically sell out pretty early in the season. Each of these is just $16.99 with free shipping:
Christmas in the Forest Advent calendar
Playmobil Nativity set
Playmobil Advent calendar (okay, this one is actually $17.99, and I’m not sure how it differs from the other one, but there you are)
We have that nativity set, by the way. It has about a gajillion pieces, and my kids still play with it every year. Although I do occasionally find a random Lego guy hanging out in the manger.
Have you contributed to your IRA today?
Oh, I know we’ve talked about retirement before—although I think I owe you a more detailed post on retirement accounts—but I was moving some money into my IRA this morning and thought to myself, “Self, you should mention this on Want Not.”
So here you go; a Sunday-morning “Do you know where your money is?” post.
Go read this, and go plug some numbers into this. I know we have a lot of stay-at-home parents reading here, and it is particularly important that all of you have retirement accounts, even though you are the population least likely to be planning for retirement.
Bottom line: If you have any money to spare, you should be putting it into a retirement account. If you don’t have any money to spare, find some. The longer you wait to invest, the less you’ll have when you need it. I challenge each and every one of you to deposit something to a retirement account this week—and then leave me a comment when you do, so that I can tell you how smart and pretty you are.
Saturday deals
First and foremost: Mea culpa! Everyone who scolded me yesterday that the Old Navy denim sale would not be in-store only? You were right. You can also shop it online. Today only (August 23rd, 2008), adult denim is $12 and kids’ denim is just $7. Limit 3 pairs per purchase.
This one sort of cracks me up: There’s currently a coupon available for Circuit City through this link here which will give you 10% off a purchase of $249+. That’s the good news. The bad news is that the list of exclusions is a mile long, and it starts with televisions. Hmph. Let me know if you manage to use it.
It’s another awesome offer from Origins.com; get free shipping and pick a free skin care set with every order.
Finally, a decent Overstock weekender coupon: Take 7.5% off any order (excluding media) through that there link, all weekend long. Wooooo!
The big home sale at Macy’s is running through Sunday, and if you spend $125+, you’ll get free shipping automatically.
Looking for a special outfit? Take a look over at Coldwater Creek, and then use coupon code WXH3964 through Sunday, August 24th, to take $25 off your $100 purchase. (Keep it affordable by shopping their outlet, even with the coupon.)
Have a fabulous day, everyone!
Hey there, Friday
Another week is nearly over, and that means it’s time for me to ponder the Amazon Friday Sale and feel guilty about the brownies I ate last night. (No, they’re not related. I just like to do both of these things on Friday.)
I love that this Speedo parka is in the Friday Sale today. Does that come with Michael Phelps? Please?
Looking for some little red shoes? I’m loving these peep-toes. Rowr!
How about $100 off on a Dyson DC17? That still makes it about $300 out of my price range, but maybe you love your asthmatic kids more than I love mine.
The Braun Multimix is back. Love this thing. Especially for folks in tight quarters (or on tight budgets) who can’t have a mixer and a food processor.
Support the fight against breast cancer by straightening your hair. Or something. (Nice price on a CHI, even if the whole pink thing irks me a little.)
This week’s sale isn’t really knocking my socks off. Let me know if you see something great I’m overlooking.
Don’t forget the Friday Five; this week features one of my favorites (Weezer, I’m looking at you).
Also, a little heads-up for you: Several of you have mailed me to mention that Old Navy is running an in-store denim special tomorrow (Saturday, August 23rd) $7 for kids’ jeans, $12 for adults’. Not available online, unfortunately.
TGIF!
