Stock up and save on bulk foods

Hey, it looks like Amazon is having a Grocery Clearance thingie right now—buy $25+ of qualifying items, and use coupon code CLEARALL to take $10 off your order instantly (and you still get free Super Saver Shipping).

The catch? Well, there’s isn’t a place to see a complete list of items, so you’ll need to do some surfing around. Thanks to mamacita for figuring this out: Here’s a link to all eligible items. Also, some things are on sale in one flavor while another isn’t, etc. Now that I’m a Senseo convert, I went looking for those expensive little pods… and I found that the Hazelnut Waltz, Kenya Blend, and Variety Packs qualify, but other flavors don’t. Go figure. (But the ones that qualify are 33% off already, so you could buy two and get 8 packs of pods for $3.39/pack, which still beat the grocery store hands down.)

Bottom line: There’s deals to be had if you’ve got some time and some patience.

Shop the Big Sale before these coupons expire

I’m starting to suspect that Lillian Vernon is always having some sort of “Big Sale,” but that’s okay, I suppose, because I am not one to turn down bargain prices. Still, you’d think they could mix it up a bit. This one could be the Big Sale, and the next one could be the Kinda Medium Sale. Later, they can have the Gigantic Sale, and sure, maybe not a lot of people will hop over for the Small Sale, but you never know.

(Yeah, there’s a reason I’m not in marketing….)

Anyway, there’s a couple of available coupons that are expiring at the end of February (Friday!), so I just thought I’d mention that. Use coupon code 438830900 to take 20% off your $75+ order; or use 567860100 to take 10% off of $60+, 15% off of $70+, or 20% off of $80+.

Happy savings!

Mindful Money: Life Insurance

Hey, remember when you were young and carefree and life insurance was for old people? No? That’s because now you’re old and senile. Ha!

Everything I want to tell you today can be summed up in this one sentence: You need to have life insurance. The end.

But if you want to get picky—and more specific—about it, read on.

If you have kids, you need life insurance. If you have a spouse, you need life insurance. If you are a single person old enough to not be on your parents’ health insurance anymore, you need life insurance. Have I covered everyone here, yet? You, in the back! You need life insurance! (The only exception here is children. Children do not need life insurance, no matter how many daytime television commercials tell you otherwise.)

The reasons vary, the amounts vary, how you handle it may vary, but you need it and you need it now. Yes. Repeat after me: I need life insurance. read more…

Yummy

You’re thinking this is a post about food, but it isn’t. “Yummy” can be used to describe food, or—as I prefer—David Boreanaz. Rowr.

Anyway, I never really took to the Angel series, for some reason, as I often flipped it on and ogled Boreanaz for a while, but never really got into the plot; but if you dug it, check out the 30 disc Complete Collector’s Set of Angel, currently $55.99 at Amazon. That’s a lot of yummy for not a lot of money per disc.

Thinking of splurging on an iPod Touch?

You know that I’m generally going to direct you to the actual Apple Store for your Apple products; they’re the experts, and prices generally aren’t too much lower, elsewhere. Amazon does occasionally have iPod deals, though.

This one is a doozy: Buy a 32 GB iPod Touch and get a 2nd generation 1 GB iPod Shuffle for free! You’re simply not going to be able to top that at the Apple Store. (Note that the Touch is $5 over Amazon’s price at Apple, plus you’d pay shipping, and of course there’s no free Shuffle offered, there.)

Of course, if you don’t want/need the Shuffle, this isn’t the deal for you. But if you’ve been waffling about getting a Touch and have a gym bag or child who wants their own iPod… maybe this is your opportunity.

$.99 shipping is back at Kohls

Oh, Kohls. How I love your tantalizing deals. How I hate your difficult website, with your “Add this item to basket” followed by “Oops! Not available!” or—even better—a complete order that just never ends up being processed. It’s sort of like playing roulette, and yet, I just can’t quit you, Kohls.

Alas.

If you‘re up for a game of chance, their $.99/item shipping is currently back (through February 29th, 2008), and there’s a couple of available codes. MVCPICKADAY gives 15% off to Kohls card holders, and NEW9914 gives 10% off to anyone.

There’s some nice deals in the kitchen and electrics type things, stuff that’s big (and heavy) where you’re really getting a deal with the $.99 shipping. And who knows, maybe you’ll even get what you order!

It’s a Pant Event

Sometimes my inner 10-year-old boy is simply too powerful to repress. So I’ll just say this, because I have to, and then try to move on:

A “Pants Event” and a “Pantsing Event” are two entirely different things.

I cannot help you with the latter, but if you’re interested in the former, you might want to head on over to Eddie Bauer, where all pants are currently $10 off through March 11th, 2008.

(Oddly enough, I was more intrigued when I thought it was a pantsing event. But this is good, too.)

Snap up the Sierra Trading Post savings

I think I’ve already mentioned that Sierra Trading Post is giving free shipping on orders of $100+ through March 5th, 2008. But now you have the chance to do even better—through February 27th, 2008, all clearance items are an additional 15% off.

The prices there are pretty much ridiculously low to begin with, so between these two promotions (they’re automatic—no coupons needed) you could really clean up. Especially if you have a child who always seems to either outgrow their boots or lose a mitten right in the middle of winter. (Yet another reason I love Georgia! Now they just come home muddy.)
