In case you’re not off to soccer
(You mean, there are people who don’t have to get up on Saturday and head off to the fields? What’s that like…?)
Here’s a few deals for your weekend, to alleviate either your soccer-lacking or soccer-induced boredom.
As several of you already discovered, free popcorn is back at Dale & Thomas. You pay the $5.90 shipping and get two bags of their deluxe popcorn. I do this deal every time they have it, and then give it away as teacher gifts while eating a rice cake and grumbling. (Note to the charming human who feels the need to leave a “wow, delicious trans-fats, just like eating garbage!” comment every single time I post about Dale & Thomas—I don’t know why you feel the need to do that, but we heard you already, so you can just go kick a kitten or something instead, today. Thanks.)
It’s an O-Day weekend! Take 7% Off your order and get $1 shipping at Overstock all weekend long through that there link. Coupon expires Monday, September 24th, 2007.
Need a stroller? Chicco is giving away one stroller every day through the end of September. (Thanks, Kris!)
Oooooh, a weekend code for Restaurant.com for a change. Actually, through the end of the month you can take 60% off your dining certificate order with coupon code SEASONS. That’s $25 worth of dining for $4. Not too shabby.
Still need Halloween stuff? save up to 40% in the Spooktacular Halloween Boootique at DisneyShopping.com through the weekend. (Just a note: I suspect they will drop costume prices after this promotion ends, but that’s also when stock will be a bit thing, so you have to decide how much you’re willing to gamble if you have your heart set on something.)
Last—but not least—go get some free Tide 2X. (Thanks, Cindy!)
Friday’s my day
Even though I am—as usual—extremely psyched for the Amazon Friday Sale, I have to confess a bit of disappointment that this week cannot possibly top last’s. It just can’t. That’s because during last week’s Friday Sale, I got a new ice cream maker for $2.48.
(I had a gift certificate balance. And a promotional credit from a problem with a prior order. But dude—I got an $80 ice cream maker for under three bucks. I needed a cigarette after that deal, and I don’t even smoke.)
Anyway, here’s wishing similarly excellent shopping karma for you, this week.
Supposedly red is very hot this season, and I’ll confess that I’ve started looking for a red purse for the Fall. This red bag is too large for me, but it’s really cute, and guess what? It’s not just shoes you can price match. If you like that bag, go buy it at Zappos and with the price match you’ll pay about $58 for a $260 bag.
It’s not a rock-bottom deal, but if you’re needing a bike helmet for your child, I’ve gotta say I’m digging that dragon.
Only at Amazon can you buy your ice cream maker, purse, and inflatable kayak all in one trip. God bless America!
Still need some sheets after all this time? (Sheets deals being my second-favorite, right after shoes.) These ones have great reviews. (Now is a good time to remind you to always always always read the reviews. Some of the sheets in the Friday Sale are cheap for a reason.)
Dude, do I really want gel in my pillows? Hmmm… at that price, maybe I do.
Gosh, I wish there was an easy way to make all of my dishes smell like cinnamon apples. Oh wait—there is!
Is that a fancy stick blender in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?
Brew your own with Mr. Beer. Or just spend a lot of time mocking your husband in your best Mr. Bill voice. (“Ohhhhh noooooo! Mr. Beeeeeeeer!”)
Oh, look—my new ice cream maker is on sale again. I can’t guarantee you can get it for $2.48, but it is a mighty fine make of frozen confections. Just sayin’.
Enjoy!
More free stuff, this time from Ryka
The very pretty Erin wrote in to let me know that Ryka is giving away 50 pairs of shoes and 50 performance t-shirts every day through October 25, 2007. Erin already won a pair a shoes!
And for every pair they give away, they’re also donating a pair. That’s nice shoes with a side of good karma. Gotta love that.
Halloween is coming, you know
The lovely Heather writes:
So, Mir, what’s your take on Halloween costumes, and getting the best bargain on them?
The last couple of years I’ve gone through eBay and been pretty happy … This year, my 3.5-year-old wants to be a T-Rex. The eBay costumes are pretty expensive, especially with shipping, so I’m thinking about doing it myself. But I’m not a sewer and I’m wondering if, by the time I buy the materials and spend the time doing it, I’d be better off shelling out $25 or so on a used costume from eBay.
So, what do you do? Any bargain-hunting tips for costumes? Got a spare t-rex costume lying about?
I find myself feeling a bit of deja vu, because a lot of what I’m inclined to say can be lifted directly from yesterday’s post about buying boots. But let’s hit a few other points as well. read more…
Video killed the radio star
And video games—specifically, hand-held video games—now keep parents from killing children on long car trips.
I mean, that’s what I assume. I have no personal experience here. Ahem.
If you’ve got a kiddo (or, okay, a significant other) who might need some new games for Christmas or whatever, you might want to cruise on over to Toys R Us. Right now you can buy 2 video games and get the 3rd free on most of their stock. Lots of stuff is already marked down, too.
And yeah, some “latest and greatest” game is going to come out between now and Christmas, but you can probably get three games now for less than what that one will cost you. Just sayin’.
It’s Big Buy Wednesday
(Not to be confused with Bug Buy Wednesday, which is something entirely different, and is what I typed the first time ’round.)
Right now Kohl’s is doing their $.99 shipping deal, where every item ships for just $.99 apiece. That can work out to a great deal, depending on what you’re shopping for, and today is Big Buy Wednesday which means that—in addition to the bargains in the clearance section—tons of other things are marked down as well. (You know I suggest buying a lifetime-guarantee backpack for the kids to use for school, but if you want another backpack for a gift or taking on trips or whatever, take a look. Some of them are under $5.)
Take an additional 10% off your order, too, with coupon code NEW2183. It expires September 30th, 2007, and I think it’s one of the few codes that doesn’t require you to have a Kohl’s charge to use it.
If you can find some insects to purchase, well then I guess it would be Big Bug Buy Wednesday. Which would be sort of cool.
Shoeriffic!
Jonesing for some new shoes? Make sure you work a little price-matching magic, if so. (Details on how to do it can be found in this post if you need a primer.)
Anyhoo, there’s a big shoe clearance going on over at Piperlime. The prices are pretty good, but if you find something you like, check to see if they have it at Zappo’s or Endless. You could have some stylin’ new shoes for a fraction of the regular price delivered to your door tomorrow.
There now. Doesn’t the day seem a whole lot brighter?
Winter boots for little ones on a budget
Um, I mean, when you’re on a budget. Not your little one. Because that would just be weird. Moving on….
The very pretty Jean writes:
Mir,
You are so wise, so pretty and have so much great advice (and ITA with you about bacon…yyummmmmm) So, I have a question. I know you no longer live where it is cold and where you need boots, but so many of us are still facing the long cold winter ahead. I have a 3.5 year old boy who grows faster than I can even tell you. I don’t know from year to year what size she he’ll wear so I always miss out on end of season sales. What’s the best place to look for decent winter boots without paying a small fortune? He’ll only wear them a few times in a season and I hate to spend a lot for that short a period of time.
Ahhh, winter boots for tiny ones. Have you ever noticed that they seem to cost just as much as their (much larger) big-kid counterparts? They’re one of the things that I truly hate to spend the money on. It can feel like such a waste. Still, you can’t exactly toss your kid into a snowbank in his sneakers, I suppose. read more…
I’m running out of titles for these
Come to think of it—I’m running out of original text, too.
So:
Blah blah blah blah, Restaurant.com is running yet another special, blah blah blah blah, use coupon code PLAN to take 50% off their already low prices, blah blah blah blah $25 dining certificates for just $5. Expires September 20th, 2007.
Blah blah blah blah. Bon appetit!
Pop your own
My husband is a devotee of the air popcorn popper. He turns up his nose at the microwave stuff. I’ve always love the microwave stuff, but now of course the accompanying why it can kill you story is coming out.
My husband now gets to say “I told you so.” Lucky him.
Need an air popper? This Presto one is on sale and has great reviews. I’m sure next week we’ll find out why even air-popped stuff can kill us, but for now, it’s a great deal.
