Practically free magazines
How would you like a year of magazines for about a buck?
Go browse the selections here and use coupon code MOM to take 90% off the subscription cost. That makes most options just a dollar or a bit more.
I like deals like this because most of my magazine subscriptions languish in the downstairs bathroom while I’m busy with, well, life. It’s hard to justify spending real money on something I hardly ever get to read, anyway.
Friday is most certainly not Comcastic
Tune in next week to see me featured on the news for having gone on a rampage at my local Comcast branch.
In other news, can I get you a cappuccino? I live at the coffee shop now. It’s no bother.
While I continue holding on the phone (the hold music includes the song “Sorry,” which is so appropriate), why don’t you go check out the Amazon Friday Sale?
If you buy enough stuff, I can combine all the nickels I get and maybe get some reliable internet service.
Fruity Cheerios contest
(Sorry for the lack of posts today. Take one flooded basement, add a needle- phobic 9-year-old having gum surgery, and stir. Add chocolate and enjoy!)
Anyway.
Modern Mom and Cheerios are having a contest. You send in a photo or video of family members enjoying Fruity Cheerios (your kids? the dog? it’s not clear) and if you win you get a case of—what else?—Fruity Cheerios and $500.
Heck, I’m probably willing to Elmer’s Glue Fruity Cheerios all over my youngest for $500.
Maybe I could turn all of our Fruity Cheerios into little boats and release them down the basement river?
I should stop giving away all of my brilliant ideas. You go work on yours. May the best fruit loop, er, Fruity Cheerio, win.
Celebrate Earth Day with free stuff
This Sunday, April 22nd, is Earth Day.
I suggest you go plant a tree, or come bail out my basement. Either one.
What? Neither of those appeal to you? Oh, fine. In that case, why don’t you drop by your local Home Depot and pick up a free compact fluorescent bulb, instead. You ingrate.
How about a new bed set to go with all those sheets?
It seems like I’m posting a deal on high-thread-count sheets every week or so (if nothing else, you can always count on the Amazon Friday Sale to come through with a deal on sheets), but it’s been a while since we saw a nice deal on a cover for your bed.
This microsuede set is just $39.99 with free shipping, even if you get it in king. That’s the comforter, bedskirt, and two shams. I’m not a huge microsuede fan, myself, but maybe you are. Or maybe for under $40 you’ll decide to become one. I don’t judge.
And I just noticed that right now your $25+ purchase in the Home & Garden section also scores you a free year’s subscription to Domino magazine, whatever that is. Hey! Free stuff!
(Honestly? In the time it took me to write this, the cafe paisley really started growing on me.)
Did you get yours?
Sometimes I post a great deal and I get comments or emails that basically say, “This is too good to be true, and I’m too suspicious to try it.” I think a certain amount of skepticism is healthy, so I’m okay with that. And anyone who’s been hanging around here for a while knows that sometimes a deal really is too good to be true, and orders are canceled or freebies don’t show up or whatever.
But I just wanted to take a moment to ask if anyone else jumped on the Chase Rewards deal I posted about last month. I got my card, charged a co-payment at the doctor’s office, and yesterday my bill arrived. When I went online to pay it I created an account and redeemed my 200 points for a $250 check. It worked like a charm.
In summary: I like free money.
In case your gift closet is low
Need to stock up for birthday parties? Toys To Grow On has a bunch of clearance right now, from little craft kits all the way up to an electric kiddie car.
(I don’t recommend the car for the toy closet, even though it’s half off. First of all, you’ll never manage to fit it in there, and secondly, once you give one of those, you pretty much have to whip out a week at Disneyworld to top it. Remain calm and don’t peak too soon.)
Thanks, Kris!
Time for shoe therapy
When the going gets tough, the tough buy new shoes. I’m pretty sure it’s a law.
If you’re buying some shoes at Shoebuy today, you can use coupon code msncm04182007 to take $10 off your order (no minimum purchase required). I have no idea how long this coupon will last, but I’d advocate jumping on it quickly if you’re interested. Juuuuust in case they decide to pull it.
Free shipping and free returns, of course, so it’s utterly risk-free. (Well, unless you order something you shouldn’t and then keep it because you can’t bear to part with it. That could be a problem, I suppose, but we can’t blame that on Shoebuy.)
Maybe today is “expensive stuff” day
I’m just not finding the crazy cheap deals today, for some reason. Instead, I’m coming across lots of “we’re having a sale on our normally ridiculously expensive stuff, and now it’s only kind of expensive!” type things.
You know I advocate making cheaper choices. But if you simply must shop the more expensive stores, at least get yourself a deal.
Right now at Banana Republic, there’s tons of stuff on sale. Sweeten the deal with coupon code SPRING2BR for an additional 15% off your entire order, regardless of size. Coupon expires May 5th, 2007.
(And you know I don’t shop there, because even with the code I can’t afford it. But I’m a little in love with this in spite of myself.)
Double the rain, double the savings
Okay, technically this has nothing to do with the rain, but you know I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to mention the rain (again). Did I (also) mention that there’s no school (again) today? I think I might’ve. Anyway.
ShopNBC is offering double savings coupons on select items through tomorrow (April 19th, 2007). There’s all sorts of things you can save on, plus it looks like they just added a bunch more stuff to the Clearance section.
But if you’re not in the mood to shop, I could just tell you about the raining and the flooding and school being canceled thing, some more. Hey! Where are you going?
