I have a soft spot for Playmobil
I have a special love in my heart for Playmobil sets, because to me they’re a cross between LEGO and a dollhouse. No, I can’t explain that statement if it doesn’t make sense to you. I guess what I mean is that they’re a building toy but also a pretend-play toy and seem to appeal equally to girls and boys, plus it’s quality stuff that tends not to fall apart.
Anyway, as all Playmobil devotees know, this stuff is pricey. So check this out: Right now Toys ‘R’ Us is offering 25% off all their Playmobil, and if you spend $100+, you get free shipping.
Their assortment of sets is extensive, and includes a couple of the Advent Calendars which are generally hard to find at holidaytime (and never, ever on sale then). You do a little for-next-Christmas shopping and a bit of for-the-gift-closet shopping, and bam, you’re up to $100 and getting that free shipping in no time.
I can not, however, guarantee that your kids will be willing to share. Sorry.
You can still be a (chocolate) hero
There’s still time to hit a total home run for Valentine’s Day, even ordering online. That’s right! Many delicious gifts can still be ordered from Ghirardelli Chocolates and arrive in time with 2-day shipping (which is free on orders of $75+, too).
Make it even sweeter: Use coupon code DEALPRO for 20% off your order! It doesn’t work on sale items, but word to the wise—peppermint bark or otherwise Christmas-themed stuff for Valentine’s Day isn’t going to go over well, anyway. You’re welcome.
This is the perfect gift to “suggest” to your significant other, by the way. Might I suggest leaving this post open on your loved one’s computer? I’m just here to help, people.
Wipe it all up
Being a mom has its dubious privileges. And being an Amazon Mom means you get extra discounts on thing like diapers and wipes, which is awesome, though I might love them just a little bit more if they extended those discounts to, say, chocolate and shoes. Just sayin’.
Anyway! If you need wipes, now’s the time to get them, because Amazon Mom subscribers can save a total of 40% on a variety of options. You’ll get an extra 15% off just for being part of Amazon Mom; you save another 15% when you buy via Subscribe & Save; and then you can top it off with coupon code MOMWIPES for another 10% off!
Suddenly, wiping someone else’s butt doesn’t seem quite so bad. (Says the woman who’s done with diapers….)
It’s a beautiful day
To be honest I’ve found the Target Daily Deals completely lackluster, lately, but today’s crop is a good one. They’re all beauty-themed, so grab a fancy set of Sonia Kashuk makeup brushes for 41% off, or a Burts’ Bees Moisture Gift Set for 43% off, or a Faith Hill gift set (I guess she has her own perfume? maybe it smells like… country?) for 40% off. Stuff like that. Remember—the daily deals always ship for free!
So that was my second surprise, this morning. (The first one was the snow. Georgia is seriously disappointing me in terms of weather, right now.)
Tweet and rock the Roku
I adore my Roku player with a love that borders on the unnatural. I’m not ashamed to admit it. It’s not unusual for us to let a Netflix disc languish on the entertainment center for months, but the Netflix Livestreaming? We are totally getting out money out of that, trust me.
If you’ve been on the fence about getting your own Roku player, maybe this will tip you over: Right now Amazon is offering $10 off the Roku XD when you link up your Twitter account and thereby let them auto-tweet about the deal. I think that’s… well, a little hokey, sure, but I’d happily take the $10 off, y’know? It makes it just $70 shipped, and maybe you’re less of a television junkie than I am (quite likely), but I probably watched the rental equivalent of $70 worth in the first month we had ours. Heh.
If you don’t have Netflix yet, you can sign up for a free one-month trial after you get your Roku, to see have you like it.
(Yeah, last night we finished Arrested Development and I added five seasons of Weeds to our instant queue. I hear admitting you have a problem is the first step, which I plan to get to just as soon as I finish watching my shows….)
Mid-week shoe break
You know what would be good on a Wednesday afternoon? A snack. And a nap. A snack followed by a nap, even. I don’t have time for the nap, so instead I’m going to have a snack and tell you about shoes. That’s totally close, right? Right.
Right now at Shoes.com you can use coupon code HEART for an extra 20% off most everything (some exclusions apply), and shipping and returns are always free.
That’s assuming you don’t find what you want/need over at 6pm.com, of course; today they have Keens on huge markdown, among other things. And in addition to the cheap shipping they’re offering through Valentine’s Day, today only your $100+ order ships absolutely free.
See? Better than a nap.
Sporty stuff for less
While it’s true that you can always find great deals in the REI Outlet, they’re running a Groundhog’s Day thing right now with just crazy low prices. Kids’ clothes, in particular, seem to be on deepest discount—there’s a link to “50% off” in the kids’ section that actually has stuff up to 70% off in it.
There’s great deals on everything from winter gear to rashguards, so they’ve pretty much got every season covered, too.
Of course, I always feel a little like an imposter, shopping at a sporting goods place, when we will typically wear those clothes to… lay around the house like the slugs we are, but it’s not like they check to make sure you’re sufficiently sporty before letting you buy. Thankfully!
It’s that time again
Are you going out to dinner on Valentine’s Day? We’re not, because I would rather gnaw off my own arm than try to go out with the rest of the world on a designated “special day,” but we’ll certainly do a nice romantic dinner sometime this month, just because.
And that’s why I’ll surf on over to Restaurant.com before Valentine’s Day, and use coupon code LOVE for 80% off my purchase. That means $25 dining certificates for just $2, which means we can have dessert.
And you know how I feel about dessert.
Ready? Wrench? ReadyWrench!
Honestly, I’m not entirely sure what a ReadyWrench is, so I asked my husband, because he is smart in the ways of tools. His answer was: “It’s a funny version of a socket wrench, probably a good choice for someone with an occasional need. $20 is a nice price for it.”
He told me this in response to my pointing out that there’s one on Lightning Deal at Amazon right now for $20. So there you go.
I wouldn’t recommend this as a Valentine’s Day gift, necessarily (“Baby! You wrench me! Wait, no!”), but it’s a nice little deal if you’re in the market.
Geekalicious!
Did you know that 3.14 written backwards in just the right font spells PIE? Because today’s shirt.woot has had me giggling for the last three minutes, no lie.
Did you know that I am raising little math nerdlings? Do you have any idea how much they are going to love this? Pi Day (March 14th) is coming up, people. And I am totally going to make my daughter wear hers to nerd camp this summer.
(“This one time? At nerd camp?”)
