I think I must be hungry
I’m all snacks and cookbooks this morning. What’s that about? Clearly I need more pie uh, fruit. Yes.
Anyway! I was just surfing through the Amazon Grocery Deals, because a bunch of them expire tomorrow, and there I go being all hungry again.
Check this one out: Currently Nature Valley Granola Bars are marked down as little as 7% or as much as 41%, and then on top of that you can use coupon code NATVALLY for another 15% off and on top of that you can buy via Subscribe & Save for another 15% off and free shipping. That’s a crazy deal once you add up all the discounts, particularly if you’re buying a flavor already deeply discounted.
These are not my first choice granola bars, because (despite the name) many of the flavors contain extras I’m not wild about, but I do buy them sometimes because they’re tasty and their formulations vary widely—some of them have HFCS, some don’t. They also have a few gluten-free varieties which are much cheaper than dedicated GF brands tend to be.
And now I want a granola bar. Darn it.
Cook everything
Barnes and Noble has a few smokin’ deals on cookbook sets right now. Round out your home library, or look like a big spender by giving one of these as a gift. (Careful, though—nothing says, “Your cooking stinks” quite like the gift of a cookbook if you’re not positive the recipient will enjoy it!)
Choose from the following; shipping is automatically free on orders of $25 or more:
The How To Cook Everything Gift Set by Mark Bittman is down to just $17.98 (from $70).
The Mastering the Art of French Cooking Deluxe Set by Julia Child is down to just $22.48 (from $100) (this is a great gift for any Julie and Julia fan).
And the Taste of Mario Box Set by Mario Batali is down to $17.98 from $70, too.
I love all things Mark Bittman, which means that at this price I may believe his set should replace my standard “You’re leaving home, here’s a copy of The Joy of Cooking!” gift.
It’s almost February, you know
Happy January 31st! You know what that means, right? You have just two weeks to buy into the hype of a Hallmark-manufactured holiday about loooooove. (Someday I’ll tell you how I really feel about it….) While I’m all for bucking the corporate machine and all, I’m also all for an excuse to by new lingerie. Ahem.
Perhaps I’ll go check out figleaves.com, because right now coupon code FIGSAVING takes 20% off your order (it appears to work on regular- and sale-price items, but not in the outlet), and as mortified as my husband is going to be by this post, I may need to make it up to him later.
This post just caused a dubious logic loop that’s making my head hurt.
Mmmm, mmmm snacky
I’m loving this little item from Boise today, of all places: Get a Groupon to Snack Warehouse—purveyor of natural and organic snacks—and pay just $15 for $30 worth. Shipping there will run you just $3.99 on any order up to 30 pounds.
The brands carried here are ones that tend to be expensive, so if you’re happy with Lays potato chips and store-brand pretzels, this is not the deal for you. But if you’re gluten-free (lots of options here!) or otherwise looking for specific, “healthier” brands, this one is worth checking out.
Time to stock up on hand soap
This is a good deal even if you didn’t get the recent Bath and Body Works Groupon, but an even better one if you did, obviously.
Right now Bath and Body Works is doing their antibacterial soap sale, where you can mix-n-match from their various luscious scents and style (I really like the foaming soaps for the kids) and get 5 for $15 or 7 for $20.
I used my Groupon and got seven soaps, plus a couple of clearanced bath gels, and only had to pay shipping ($7). If you don’t have the Groupon, coupon code SPECIAL20 will take another 20% off. (These offers can’t be combined, because the Groupon works as a coupon code.)
And yes, it would be more frugal to buy generic soap in giant containers. I know. I just really like the BBW ones. And given that I can pick up a year’s worth on the cheap and then feel fancy, I don’t mind.
Saturday deals
Gooooood morning! Our forecast here in sunny Georgia is for the high to top out in the mid-60s, today. This almost makes up for the week we had off school during the Snowpocalypse. Almost. Let’s get to some deals before I go run outside without a coat on, like the fool I am.
This weekend at Best Buy they’re slashing prices on a bunch of televisions. The best deal to my mind is this 42″ Panasonic Viera 720p one at just $400 (don’t forget that with Best Buy, you can order online and then go pick it up at the store rather than pay for shipping). We own a Panasonic Viera and have been very happy with it. (And for those wondering if 1080p is worth the extra cost, my answer is no. What the human eye can resolve at normal TV-viewing distance means that most of us will find the difference between 1080p and 720p indistinguishable. I’d, personally, rather save the money.)
This weekend you can take an extra 30% off sale prices at Gap with coupon code GAPSALE30. Elsewhere in the Gap family: Save 25% on your order at Banana Republic with coupon code BRJAN25, and at Old Navy you can use code ONGET20 for 20% off your order.
Today at Soap.com you’ll find all Vaseline products are already 20% off, plus you can use coupon code FBVASELINE to save another 30%! (Max discount value of $10.)
Don’t forget that the end of the month means the end of some of the great grocery deals that have been running lately—get ’em before they’re gone! One of the deals about to expire is on Torani syrups, which are already on sale, plus you can use coupon code SYRUP444 for an additional 15% off, plus buy via Subscribe & Save for another 15% off and free shipping. Use these syrups to make fancy drinks, or make gifts seem even fancier; this 3-pack of peppermint syrup, for example, comes out to just about $8 on this deal, and a bottle of this along with a container of cocoa would make the perfect holiday gift, next year. (Yes, I am thinking about next year’s teacher gifts already. It’s an illness.)
And now I want a peppermint mocha. Darn it.
Friday night ice cream delight?
I happened to be sitting here checking email (yes, on a Friday night, because I am a party animal) when pretty Want Not reader Karen emailed to let me know that Amazon just dropped the price on their Cuisinart ICE-21 ice cream maker to just $37 shipped.
While Amazon’s “regular” price of $90 is sorely inflated, it’s still a deal over the typical $50 it goes for, and this is a very highly rated model. Thanks, Karen!
Friday’s full of surprises
Happy Friday! Today marks one week since my son had his tonsils and adenoids out and little blue tubes inserted into his ears (yes, I suspect our ENT is Dr. Seuss). Pro tip: Do not take a flashlight and look in your kid’s throat after a tonsillectomy. You’re welcome!
Instead, go shopping to ease the transition from narcotics to regular painkillers. (Um, that’s his transition. I am not taking narcotics. Sadly.)
Today 6pm is having a massive denim event, with markdowns on all of your favorite jeans. I loaded up my cart last night and wasn’t all that impressed by the additional price drops this morning, but I am apparently shaped like a weirdo and love the hardest-to-find style that Lucky makes. I see much bigger discounts on lots of other jeans, so it may be worth checking out.
Speaking of Lucky Brand, right now if you shop them directly, you can use coupon code ALB25CAT to take $25 off any order of regular-price merchandise. Find an item under $25 (hint: check out the jewelry) and you’ll pay only the $7 shipping!
The Target Daily Deals are currently doing that weird thing where, on the top-level page, some of them don’t appear to be discounted, but they actually are. Like the dish chairs are just $24, and the 4-pack of Burt’s Bees lip balms is just $5.99. Free shipping on all of the daily deals, as always.
Proving that even Amazon can be full of surprises, today’s Friday Sale is full of coffee, as usual, but also Coke and Pepsi and Kool-Aid. (Hey! It’s rot-your-teeth Friday at Amazon!) Don’t forget that we’re coming to the end of the month, and so to the end of many of this month’s grocery specials. Their current special on Kitchens of India foods, for example, is always popular (many items are already sold out)—save 15% with Subscribe & Save, but get another 35% off with coupon code KITCHENI, for a total of half off.
Remember how I said there’s always another Lands’ End coupon coming along? Here it is: Today only, use coupon code JAN28 with PIN 2694 for an extra 30% off items already reduced (sale or clearance), plus get free shipping on your $50+ order.
Now go get yourself something pretty. You deserve it!
Mostly about toys, a little about vengeance
Despite the eleventy million toy deals Amazon threw our way in December, they’re having a Winter Clearance Event in toys and games right now, just in case you, like me, have a few days of your free Prime trial left and want to pick up a few things.
There are many nice and lovely toys available, things that would be great for your gift closet or your own kids or whatever.
Also, right now Candyland is just $4 shipped (assuming you have Prime, or order enough for free Super Saver Shipping). Now, I personally hate Candyland with the heat of a thousand firey suns, because good Lord that game can go on forever, plus my kids always, always cried whenever they got sent back, but hey, maybe you love it. Or maybe you need a birthday present for a kid whose parents you don’t much like.
I’m just tossing out ideas, you understand.
