New Year’s resolution: Look awesome

There are many products on which I skimp and save, and others on which I would never dream of buying anything less than what works. That sentence right there is all the justification I need to spend way too much on hair products. Yes. I’m not even embarrassed about it. Look; I try to find my products on sale, but anyone who’s ever made the mistake of buying the cheap stuff “just this once” knows why the professional products are worth the money.

(Or maybe it’s just me, with my crazy curly hair. You straight-haired gals just don’t know my pain, man.)

Anyway. There’s a big sale going on right now at Folica, for the next couple of days. All kinds of hair tools and products are already marked down, and then you can apply coupon code NEWYEAR to save another 20% off the sale prices. Spend $50+ and your order ships for free, too.

Good hair is priceless. But good hair products can be gotten on sale if you’re paying attention.

The 12th didn’t want to feel left out

Happy 1/12/11! What? You say that’s not a remarkable day? Whatever. Children’s Place begs to differ; today only, you can use coupon code FSSNOW for free shipping on any order! Plus, you can stack coupon code SAVINGS1C for an additional 15% off, too.

Free shipping and additional money off, on top of the current Monster Sale? It’s almost enough to make Wednesday bearable.

Food-saving, frugal-style

Part of me wants one of those fancy Foodsaver thingies. But most of me would never pay what they cost. Still, is there any sadness greater than something you pull out of the freezer only to discover that it’s completely freezer burned? I say no.

Right now Amazon has the Ziploc Vacuum Starter Kit—which is sort of like the Foodsaver’s punky little brother—available for just $2.71 when you purchase it via Subscribe & Save (which, remember, also gives you free shipping). (It’s out of stock but you can order; they’re expected to be in in a few days.) The gallon refill bags are currently out of stock, but will also be available on Subscribe & Save when they’re available again. (Edited to add: Looks like you can still order the quart bags from Amazon—look in the “More Buying Choices” column. No S&S, though.)

And no, I don’t think this is as good as a Foodsaver, but for a few bucks, I’m certainly willing to try it out!

Rocket to fun

As hard it is to imagine that anyone is short on toys now that we’ve reached the post-holiday oh-good-lord-who-bought-all-of-this-junk phase, some deals are just too good to pass up.

To wit: Check out this adorable Radio Flyer Retro Rocket at Meijer, currently just $31 with free shipping. (For comparison: It’s currently $50 at Amazon.)

If you know a toddler who wouldn’t find that simply delightful, I might be tempted to call you a liar.

A savings gamble maybe worth taking

This is perhaps not as sexy as a shoe deal, but… well, it’s arguably more useful.

So, apparently Amazon is listing this triple-quilted Northern bath tissue as a 12-pack, but then in the description it says that it’s a 4-pack of 12-packs—48 rolls altogether. A bit of digging around a few deal discussion bulletin boards turns up confirmation from multiple folks that when ordering this item when it was last in stock, it did indeed turn out to be the full 48 rolls.

The listed price is just $18.18, which is hardly a deal for 12 rolls, but pretty smokin’ for 48. Right now Amazon says it’s out of stock but you can go ahead and order.

So: Price mistake? Listing mistake? I placed an order and took a screen shot of the item page. Either it’s a mistake and it’ll get canceled before it ships, or it’s a mistake and they’ll ship me one 12-pack and I’ll argue that’s not what the description promised. It’s a risk, but I’m in a gambling mood.

Happy 1/11/11!

It’s a very special day, you know. One with… uhhh… lots of ones. Yes. (Gimme a break; we’re iced in and running low on coffee. Send help. And cookies.)

To celebrate this auspicious occasion, The Limited is offering shipping for just… eleven cents, today only. That’s pretty sweet, but let’s make it even better: You can also use coupon code 476 for an additional 25% off your order regularly-priced items, too.

Altogether, that’s not a bad way to celebrate a bunch of ones on the calendar.

Ooh la Olay

If you’re a fan of the Olay Regenerist line, check this out: Right now Amazon is offering an assortment of Olay products on sale, plus many of them have an available $3 coupon when you click through to the product page, plus many can be gotten with the additional Subscribe & Save discount, plus there’s currently an available $20 rebate when you spend $50+. (Hint: Pay attention to the seller! Many products are listed at one price from a third party, and the Amazon price is actually lower.)

You can work this one out to a smoking deal if these are products you use.

Me, I’m an Olay Definity girl, and only just a little bitter that that’s not on sale. Hmph.

Stash your laptop

Have you been looking for a sturdy bag to haul your computer around? Today’s Amazon Gold Box is filled with SwissGear backpacks and messenger bags, 64% off. Prices start at just $22, for a nearly indestructible way to carry around your precious.

(No, really. My hard drive is named MyPreshusss. Isn’t yours?)

Attention football fanatics!

Amazon is currently offering EA Sports Active NFL Training Camp for the Wii for just $49, which is over half off the regular price.

At first I was all… does it come with a gold-plated football, for that price? But it doesn’t. It does, however, come with full-body motion sensors and a heart rate monitor, so it may actually be worth the extra dough.

Certainly for die-hard football fans it may be a great way to stay in the game even through the winter months. Me, I got tired just looking at it, but I’m old and couch-potato-y, you know.
