Friday, you’re here to save me
Are there people who don’t count down the week until Friday/Saturday? I would like to become one of those people. Just as soon as I catch up on my sleep.
Me, I still have to stumble bounce out of bed early to check out the Amazon Friday Sale, because I love you. If you’re low on chia seeds—or if you haven’t checked them out, yet—get a load of this Nutiva Organic 2-pack for just $10.20 when you buy via Subscribe and Save. Chia seeds are not only a superfood, they’re easy to add to everything—I put them in our smoothies, pancakes, baked goods, even rice and quinoa. Good stuff, and what a price. And don’t forget—it’s a new month, which means there’s a new crop of MP3 albums for just $5 each to check out!
Who needs Black Friday? Best Buy is doing a Shop Early, Save Big event today and tomorrow, and wow, if you have electronics on your list, check it out. (How does a $280 eMachines laptop grab you?) It’s unclear to me if those prices are going to be available online (everything is still listed as “coming soon” at 6:00 this morning…), but it may be worth watching.
It’s the big “Upgrade Your Gear” sale at EMS, with 30% off everything in the store. Plus, they’re running Power Deals every three hours, so you may snag an extra-deep discount on something awesome if you time it right.
6pm.com is singing my tune today, and in case you’re wondering, that tune is “Boots, boots, and more boots.” Heh.
I love this Burt’s Bees Travel Kit at Buy.com for just $6 shipped—would make a great stocking stuffer!
Just about everything is 40% off at Lee Jeans this weekend, plus there’s free shipping on $30+. It’s a perfect time for me to get the husband some more jeans that actually fit him.
It’s Friends & Family time at The Limited so shop this weekend and use coupon code FRIEND to take 40% off of everything (even sale prices). They have some really cute jewelry and accessories on sale… might be a good way to knock out a few gifts.
That should keep you busy for a while, yes? I’ll be back later on. I think I owe you a contest winner. But first, the coffeepot is calling me to come visit again….
We need to talk about your TPS reports
Know what would be the perfect stocking-stuffer for your favorite beleaguered cube-dweller? The Office Space Special Edition Blu-ray, which is currently just $10 at Amazon. You get both the Blu-ray and On-Demand versions, plus you get a $4 credit for another On-Demand purchase, so it’s practically free!
(Okay, it’s not practically free. But now you understand how I talk myself into these things….)
The right robe for a hot man
Don’t go getting all hot ‘n’ bothered, now. It’s not what you think.
The lovely Tafline asks:
I’m hoping to enlist your help and perhaps the help of your pretty readers if this subject deserves such in-depth analysis. My husband needs a new robe and I’d like to get him a good one. He only uses it in winter and judging by his current one he likes calf-length. But he’s a very hot person, so it would need to be fairly light-weight, while still providing the snuggly factor. The one he has now is fleece and he doesn’t like it. It pils terribly and it gets static and sticks to his skin constantly. Satin is clearly out of the question (not snuggly and a little creepy on a man), as is anything as heavy at a terry robe. So what are my options? Flannel? Cotton? Soft polyester? How do I know which of these will not get static?
I really don’t want to get it wrong, because if it’s from me he’ll wear it faithfully even if he hates it (such a sweet man).
Tafline has discovered one of the Great Weirdnesses of American retail: Most of the robes available for men are very thick materials (manly?), in spite of the fact that, overall, most men I know tend to be warmer-blooded than us women. (Dear Every Clothing Manufacturer: You are dumb. Love, Mir.)
The lightweight, non-pilling, low-static solution is a spa-quality waffle weave cotton, Tafline. But you’re going to have trouble finding one cheap. I like this Turkish cotton robe from Overstock, and at $50 it’s probably half what it’ll cost you elsewhere, but that’s still a pretty penny.
Readers? Other suggestions?
Pittsburgh, I like you better now
Oh, it’s not that I had anything against Pittsburgh, you understand. I just didn’t feel one way or the other about Pittsburgh. Neutral. But then I saw that today’s sidebar Pittsburgh Groupon is $60 worth of custom photo books from Blurb and I was all, “Pittsburgh, you’re all right.” Because that’s $40 of free stuff from one of my favorite photo book sites, and that’s awesome.
(Okay, Groupon itself is kind of awesome, too. Heh.)
A gift for them, a gift for you
There is, of course, no end to my love for The Children’s Place. (Except the part where my daughter has finally outgrown them—alas!) They have a great selection, frequent sales, and plenty of coupon codes. All of my favorite things, particularly when it comes to outfitting the little humans who outgrow their clothes every other week, it seems.
Perhaps you were thinking about gift cards for the holidays. Or perhaps you’re just looking to maximize your dollars when you do your holiday shopping. Either way, lookie here: The Children’s Place is now offering online gift cards (look for the link on the lower right of their splash screen), and for a limited time, every $40 you spend gets you a bonus $10 eGift card, free! You can reap the bonus for every $40 up to $500, so you could potentially bag as much as $120 of free shopping money!
So you can gift your favorite kid(s) and save the bonus for yourself. Or just buy some cards now to do your shopping later, and keep ’em all. I won’t tell.
Something’s fishy
Now that I’m gluten-free (“New and improved Mir—now 100% gluten-free!”), I have to be very careful about lots of foods I’d never really thought about before. Like canned soup; most canned soup has flour in it. So weird.
Granted, I almost always make my own soup, anyway, but it sure was handy to be able to grab a can from the pantry on a busy day, y’know? Thank goodness there are a few brands I can still buy, though they tend to be pretty pricey.
Anyway! I can no longer purchase Bar Harbor’s chowders and bisques, which makes me sad, because they make the greatest canned clam chowder and crab bisque I’ve ever had. Heavenly. Tastes-like-homemade kind of heavenly. If you’re gluten-free, step away, but if you’re not, check out the current Amazon special on Bar Harbor—everything is already marked down, and then you’ll get another 30% off when you combine coupon code BARHARB7 (15% off) and purchasing via Subscribe & Save (another 15% off, plus free shipping). If you enjoy fish chowders and bisques, hop on this one. It works out to under $2/can and these sell for about $5/can at the supermarket.
All-natural ingredients, no MSG. Yay! And also wheat flour. Boo.
Hit the Trading Post
It’s been a while since I peeked over at Sierra Trading Post, and as usual, I’m always delighted by what I find there. (I don’t know why I forget about them so often. Maybe because they carry all kinds of winter gear and I like to live in a world of denial where it’s perpetually 80 degrees…?)
Anyway, they’ve got two new coupons for this month, too. You can use coupon code ALVNOV2KX for 20% off any order, or—if you spend $125+—use coupon code ALNOV2KX for 25% off, instead. Those are savings you can take on top of their already ridiculously low prices, so the end result is great stuff for very little dough.
Even if it is something you’ll need when it’s snowing. Hmph.
Even better than last time
I know I posted this once before, when it was a deal at Best Buy, but now it’s even cheaper—right now Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing is just $19 shipped from Amazon (assuming you have your Prime trial going) for the Wii. It’s available on other platforms, too, but you know how I like the Wii.
And no, I am not dead today, I am just racing around like a crazy person to obligations other than deal-finding. Perhaps a game like this could help me up my speed and get back to you sooner…? Hmmm.
Everyone needs it, you know
Short on toilet paper? (Please insert your own potty humor here. I am abstaining, because I’m mature. Ha.) Right now you can get 48 double rolls of Cottonelle Ultra from Amazon for $23 shipped. That’s kind of crazy for premium TP.
(Please insert another joke here. Just for balance.)
One day to save, until the next time
It’s like Old Navy is turning into Kohls, or something, with all of the coupons lately. Not that I’m complaining, mind you, but still—it’s a little weird. Today (November 3rd) only, use coupon code ONWINTER for 30% off your order, which means those coats that got marked down to half off are now even cheaper. [Edited to add: I am a lying liar. I missed the fine print, which states you cannot use this coupon on outerwear. My bad! Well, get something pretty go to with your new coat, maybe….]
By next week I predict they’ll be paying us to take those coats. But don’t quote me on that.
