Oh, the weather outside is frightful…

Y’all know how Murphy’s Law works, right? Murphy’s Law is why it rains when you forget your umbrella, or doesn’t if you remember it. Well. I’d just like to let you know that you have me to thank for today’s crop of Target Daily Deals. They’re just in time for the abrupt end of summer (it finally happened, in the first week of October) and chilly/rainy Fall we’re now experiencing.

I mean—I’ll be honest—I was starting to think they’d lost their touch. I haven’t seen anything worthwhile there in a couple of weeks. But today it’s all coats (really cute coats), and among them is an adorable rain jacket in either navy or black.

So feel free to thank me, because after searching for weeks for a rain coat that wasn’t “too ugly” or “too babyish” for my nearly-teen, I broke down and ordered her something off of eBay the day before yesterday. Murphy’s Law!

(Psssst! Trying not to be bitter, over here. If you’re spending $50+, don’t forget to activate this link before checkout to save an additional $5.)

Just a little reminder

You may remember that about a month ago, I told you all about Amazon’s new Amazon Mom program, open to anyone who is a primary caretaker of a child. Among its other benefits, members receive three free months of Prime membership right off the bat (with the potential to earn up to an entire year—see my original post for details).

Anyway, when I first brought it up, I point out that three months of Prime would not, at that time, adequately cover you for the holidays and the inevitable after-holiday markdowns. For that reason, I advised waiting to sign up if you thought you’d only get the initial three months.

But if you sign up today, three months of Prime takes you through January 4th, 2011. And I don’t know about you, but I find the holiday season much more enjoyable with free 2-day shipping on nearly everything. Fa la la la la!

Deals at the Disney Store

I know Disney is a giant corporate machine and everything… but they make really cute stuff. There, I said it. Right now they have a slew of Disney Store Specials going on, and despite the fact that that page tells you there’s a $5 shipping special, actually, there’s a no shipping special. Just use coupon code MAGIC for free shipping on any order at all. Easy-peasy.

They’re touting the current $10 off many costumes thing, but check out the sale items in the Home Decor section. Plenty of adorable Halloween decorations are available there for half off. Just in case you have as much trouble resisting the cute as I do. (You’re welcome.)

More tech-geekery: Charge me up!

Oooh, look at this one: Right now Amazon has the Kensington Travel Battery Pack for iPhones and iPod Touches available via Buy.com for just $17 shipped. It looks like this is a clear-out of an old model—they’re showing a newer version available for a $70 pre-order—but at that price, who cares? It’s well-rated and Amazon is still selling it themselves for over twice the price.

I’m especially digging this because my after-market car charger no longer works with my new phone. Yep, the iPhone 4 comes with a bevy of new features, including the ultra-annoying “Hey, this isn’t an Apple charger, that’s not going to work, sucker,” message whenever I forget and try to plug it in. Hmph.

[Edited to add: I’m still reading reviews, but it looks as though this version may have a few glitches with the iPhone 4 (hence the new forthcoming version). Still a great deal with the earlier versions, though.]

Nerdy Gold Box ahoy

If all things geeky float your boat, keep your eye on today’s Amazon Gold Box; the featured deal is a 500 GB portable external hard drive for just $60 shipped, but the Lightning Deals today are all tech goodness, as well. In just a couple of minutes there’s going to be a wireless keyboard/mouse combo from Logitech for just under $30, and the rest of today’s deals look to be similarly geekalicious.

You understand I’m not casting aspersions, right? I do love me some geekery. Live long and prosper, my friends.

Two days to save

Despite the fact that it’s a “Gap family of stores,” Gap, Old Navy, and Banana Republic like to drive me insane by offering different coupons for each store at different times. Or they offer coupons for all three stores but they’re all different, even though they have a shared cart.

But today and tomorrow they’e finally achieved shopping unity; shop Gap, Old Navy, or Banana Republic through tomorrow (October 5th, 2010) and use coupon code SAVEBIG for 30% off. You’ll also get free shipping if you spend $100 or more. And yes, sure, the regular exclusions apply (Gap seems to be the worst offender, there, with the exclusions), but at least for once you can use that shared shopping basket and still use your coupon.

Not that I’m bitter.

Saturday deals

Good morning! The sun is shining and it’s under 60 degrees (at least for the moment). I think September has finally arrived! Wait….

How about some deals for your weekend?

I’ll take one of every Donna Morgan dress that’s currently 70% off at 6pm.com (ohmygoshsopretty). Want shoes? Fine, they have those, too. Or hop over to Shoes.com and use code FALL2010 for an additional 15% off.

Today’s Amazon Gold Box Deal is a Xyron Creatopia crafting machine for $80 (they claim that’s nearly half off, which is inflated, but it’s still a good $20 cheaper than anywhere else). Not being crafty, myself, I can’t say for sure if your favorite scrapper needs one, but it has great reviews.

Also at Amazon, Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games for the Wii is down to just $25 (half price). We love all things Mario, here.

It’s end-of-season sale time at Old Navy, with 40% off all kinds of things. Just stay away from the mannequins over there. (Yes, they still creep me out.)

Did you know they have tons of Halloween items at Meijer? They do! Buy 2 or more, and shipping is just $.99. Or check out all of this week’s deals at eToys, which appears to include free shipping on Halloween costumes.

Aaaaand one last costume deal for you: Check out today’s Baltimore Groupon to snag $30 to BuyCostumes.com for just $15! Awesome.

I am off to go enjoy this lovely cool weather for a bit. I still owe you a contest winner (haven’t forgotten, I promise) and perhaps we’ll need a quickie weekend contest as well. Hmmm. Let me think on that.

Hey, it’s October

How did that happen? I’m not ready! Go back!! No going back, you say? Well, fine. I’ll just have to go shopping, instead.

I got an email early this morning saying that the response to the 90% off Restaurant.com promotion from yesterday was so great, they’ve decided to extend it one more day. That’s great news for those of you patronizing restaurants which only offer a limited number of certificates each month; today’s the day to buy those, before they sell out. Remember, use coupon code WOW for 90% off! (And this is the first time I’ve ever seen them offer a discount like that on the 1st of the month. Wow, indeed.)

I told myself that I would not look at shoes on 6pm.com today. And I’m not. I do notice that they have an awful lot of purses on sale, though…. (What? They’re not shoes!)

Does the Amazon Friday Sale have anything worth checking out, today? Well, there’s plenty of coffee (I’m shocked!), but there’s also a 24-pack of Orbit White gum for $21, which is a pretty good price if you need a lot of gum. There’s also some good natural foods deals: Kettle Valley Strawberry Fruit Leathers come out to $9.33 shipped via Subscribe & Save for 30; Late July has organic mini cheddar sandwich crackers and mini peanut butter sandwich crackers for around $17 shipped via S&S for 32 snack pouches—these crackers are a healthier alternative to Ritz and Cheezits and the like, and at this price, no more expensive. Also, it’s not part of the Friday Sale, but Amazon is offering tremendous savings on Kitchens of India products again (this is my favorite “convenience” Indian food by far)—use coupon code KOIPRO55 for a whopping 35% off the already reduced prices, then buy via Subscribe & Save for free shipping and another 15% off. This makes most of the ready-to-eat items come out at about $1.30/apiece, while the sauces are about $1/apiece or less. Love.

Don’t forget that a new month means a new crop of MP3 albums for just $5 each at Amazon, too.

Clearance is still going on over at Aeropostale, and now you can use coupon code CLEAROUT to take an additional 30% off those clearance items.

They’re clearing out at Graveyard Mall, which means you can take an additional 70% off select items with coupon code Shipbyoctober15. I see some incredible light fixtures, a bunch of closet storage stuff (okay, that one is still very expensive, but if you need those items you can’t beat the price!), holiday items, and more. Remember, shipping is a little high there, but the savings usually offset that.

I’m off to try to get organized before November gets here. Stop laughing. I’ll be back later with this week’s contest winner!

I’ve succumbed

A few months ago I finally succumbed to the Silly Bands (Silly Bandz? Silly Banzzzz?) craze, much to my children’s delight. I think I posted when there was a great deal on one of those one-sale-a-day sites, and for not much money I picked up a whole mess of bands for my kids.

Awesome. Except it wasn’t, because those bands break really easily. My son gave up wearing his altogether, and my daughter carefully wears just one at a time and then it usually breaks and she gets upset. Lesson learned: Do not buy the cheap bands.

So today I was just surfing around Amazon for Buddy Bands, because it turns out that those are really hard to break. They cost more, but they also last. Plus, they come in cool shapes. So I was all set to get some dragon bands for my son and flower bands for my daughter, but then I found this 100-band mega-pack and new my stocking stuffer search was over.

Yeah, I paid $17 for rubber bands. I’m kind of ashamed. (But some of them are really cool. No, really!)

All part of their evil plan

On the one hand, I sort of resent “spend more, save more” deals, because I know the goal is to make me spend more than I would, otherwise. And because it generally works. (What can I say? Always a sucker for the bigger discount!)

On the other hand, I love “spend more, save more” deals because if I’m spending, anyway, I may as well reap the savings.

And that’s exactly what they’re counting on, I guess. I’m just their puppet, and soon online shopping coupons will take over the world. Or maybe I’m overthinking this.

Regardless, for the next four days, shop at Children’s Place and you’ll—you guessed it—save more, the more you spend.

Coupon code K3C2010 saves you 20% on $40, code H3C2010 saves you 25% on $50, and code F3C2010 saves you 30% on $60. Just in case you were shopping, anyway. Or can’t resist the codes.

[Unrelated: AT&T is here breaking working on my Internet connection, so I want you to know I really, really love you, because this took me over an hour to post with their helpful “assistance.” Ahem.]
