A Friday confession
Good morning, my pretties! I have something to tell you. I know I’ve been neglecting you a bit this week, and I’m sorry. I sort of have a good reason, though: I’ve been readying my family for a Very Big Trip next week. The bad news is that it meant I was gone a lot this week, and posting will be lighter next week, as well. The really cool news is that I have some treats planned for you while we’re gone, like helpful guest content from a travel agent (should you wish to take a similar trip) and a cool contest to make it up to you that I’m off in the Caribbean while you’re still here. (Yes, we’re going on a cruise. I can’t believe it either.) More info on that coming up in the next few days!
In the meantime, let’s make the most of Friday, shall we?
The Amazon Friday Sale has been scaled back once more, and I wouldn’t even mention it except that they have some Newman’s Own Organic Dog Treats on a pretty good deal, so I wanted to point those out. (Both the Cheese and Salmon/Sweet Potato flavors are a little over $2 bag after discount and Subscribe & Save.) Also, they’ve got a lot of coffee. Tons of coffee.
Also—and this is a little rich for my blood, but I’m just saying—how awesome of a Father’s Day gift would today’s Gold Box Deal be? It’s an 11-movie Ultimate James Bond collection on Blu-ray for $100. Sweeeeeeet.
Meanwhile, in the Target Daily Deals, you could snag yourself a Dyson Blueprint (motto: less ugly than the regular Dysons!) for $300, if you’ve been wanting one of those. (Oh, wait. $295 if you activate this link, or try code TCJ09UAB for 10% off, which would make it a cool $270.)
If you’re feeling the shoe love today, you’ve got options; over at 6pm.com they’ve got deals on Uggs, Bearpaws, Rocketdog (love me some Rocketdog), Nike, and more. Meanwhile, today and tomorrow you can take an extra 15% off already-reduced prices at Piperlime with code EXTRA15, which is pretty darn exciting because usually their coupons cancel out any previous markdowns. And—one more—today is the last day to take an extra 20% off already-reduced prices at Shoes.com with code SALE20.
And if you’re wanting to do a little clothes shopping, how about this: Through June 6th (that’s this Sunday), shop at Gap, Old Navy, or Banana Republic and the more you buy, the more you’ll save. Coupon code SAVE123 will give you 15% off $75+, 20% off $100+, or 25% off $150+ at all three stores.
That should keep you busy for a little while, right? I think it will. But if you have some free time, do you want to come over and help me finish packing…?

The big sale is on… now
If you were trying to resist shopping, you’d better not read this one.
I regret (just a little) to inform you that it’s time for the big twice-yearly sale at Hanna Andersson, with prices of up to 50% off their regular offerings.
Of course, all coupons have expired in anticipation of this big event, but if you love Hannas (and why not, with their extreme cuteness, cottony comfort, and the fact that they wash and wear like some sort of magical Swedish iron), this is the time to shop, anyway. The savings will compensate for what you’ll pay in shipping.
Unless you—like me—are not shopping right now. I’m not even looking. I’ll get sucked in. I’m walking away. Right now.
You’re not just frugal, you’re green
Given a choice between new and used, I will often go for used. Certain items—underwear springs to mind, because ewwww—I prefer new, of course, but in general? I love the savings and the recycling aspect of buying pre-owned. (Just ask my car. Or my husband!) (Totally kidding about my husband.)
Ahem. I’m going to get in trouble for that one.
Anyway! Music! And movies! Those are great things to buy used. Here’s a deals for your listening and viewing pleasure: Through June 15th, shop at f.y.e and you can use coupon code USED1030M to take $10 off your $30+ order of used CDs and DVDs (and shipping on $25+ is free).
Really, you’re saving the planet by picking up some new tunes. You’re kind of a hero like that.
Action! Suspense! Popcorn!
Every time the entire series of The Wire shows up in the Amazon Gold Box, like it has today, I point it out and every Wire-lover comes out of the woodwork to declare it the greatest show ever, and every time I think, “Huh. I should maybe get that.”
But then I see something shiny and get distracted.
Maybe today will be different; after all, 60 hours of suspenseful viewing (more if you count the bonus features) for $90? That’s a lot of bang for the buck. Even if the popcorn isn’t included.
Woof woof, splish splash
Time to restock your pet supplies? Why lug it home yourself when you can scoop up the savings and maybe even ship it for free—through June 10th, 2010, shop the PETCO Summer Splash Sale and save up to 40% on pet supplies, plus get free shipping on $60+ (some exclusions apply).
I may have to replenish Licorice’s toy stash. Last time I looked, her beloved Slobber Bunny (thus named by the kids) was down to only one and a half legs.
Nook your books
Been considering a Nook (Barnes & Noble’s ereader, or—more to the point—their answer to the Kindle)? Now’s the time to buy; through the end of June, get a $50 Barnes & Noble gift card when you buy a Nook for $259. That’s like getting the reader for just $209, or like finally springing for the reader and getting $50 worth of books to load it up.
I don’t know why I’m telling you what it’s like. It’s like getting $50! Do the math however it makes you feel the prettiest and most frugal. Obviously.
Dad’s all cultured and stuff
Still working on Father’s Day? How about a subscription to National Geographic from Amazon for just $10? (Price is currently $15, and another $5 will be deducted when you add it to your cart.) That’s about a buck an issue for amazing stories, beautiful pictures, and a coffee table that subtly suggests your family is highly cultured.
Just a suggestion, of course. If that doesn’t float your (or Dad’s) boat, there’s also a whole slew of other magazines that will be an extra $5 off when you add them to your cart. I kind of doubt that he wants Oprah, but if you’re a more loving wife than I am, maybe you’ll go for Maxim.
Getting hitched is optional
Far be it from me to miss a sale, so when I got the email about Piperlime offering a 3-day sale on “Wedding Chic” shoes I was undaunted. No, you don’t have to get married. No, you don’t even have to go to a wedding, and no, they aren’t all white.
It’s just an assortment of super-hot shoes (and a few purses), and through June 5th, 2010, you can take 20% off with code WEDDING. Even if you’re just going to wear them out dancing. Or whatever; I don’t judge.
It’s like they’re mocking me, now
Remember when the price for a Wii console was $249, no matter where you bought it? Remember that?
And then eventually it came down to $200, and I shook my fist at the heavens, because you know how I hate it when I miss a deal. (And in case I never told you the story, I bought my kids a Wii back when they were not only expensive, but hard to find, and I bought it in the summer to save for a Christmas present, and I was so excited to finally be able to be the fun parent for the holidays, for a change, and then my kid won a Wii at school. Hmph.) (I auctioned off the other Wii and donated the money to the school. But still—hero moment, ruined forever. Sigh.)
Anyway!
All of this is to say that right now Amazon has the Wii for just $150 shipped!
Are they trying to make me cry?
