While we have food on the brain
For me, the impending Thanksgiving holiday means I feel like I’m doing nothing but cooking (and eating, ahem) and will never be hungry again, but I suppose that eventually I may get tired of turkey. Thankfully, I can prepare ahead—right now I can purchase dining certificates from Restaurant.com for 70% off using coupon code THANKS. That means I’ll get $25 worth of dining for just $3 out of pocket, and for a limited time I’ll also get a $15 ProFlowers certificate along with my purchase, which will surely come in handy when I realize that I forgot to send someone flowers.
What’s that? Oh! Yeah, you can use the code, too. I’m all about the sharing.
You could sleep in on Friday
If you’ve been around here for a year or more, you know my philosophy about shopping on Black Friday; namely, there’s never going to be anything I want so badly I’m willing to get up at 4:00 a.m. and leave the house and fight the crowds to get. Not going to happen. There will be lots of online deals, and I plan to enjoy shopping on Black Friday the same way I do the rest of the year—here at the computer, in my pajamas, as God intended.
Anyway, one of the items I know some folks will gear up and head out in the wee hours to nab is a deal on the Nintendo DSi. I’ve seen a few leaked Black Friday ads and yes, it’s a hot item you’ll be seeing at multiple stores. If you or your kid has your heart set on one, you don’t necessarily have to leave the house.
Right now you can pre-order a Nintendo DSi Mario bundle from Amazon for $155 shipped. That includes the console and five different Mario game titles, and it’s $15 cheaper than I’ve seen the same bundle listed on various Black Friday in-store deals. [Edited to add: The Mario bundle comes with the blue one. The white one comes with a Brain Age bundle, if you’d rather!]
So you can pocket that money in your bathrobe, and stay home. You’re welcome!
And here’s a dose of dailies
‘Tis the season for me to check all the daily deals, get overwhelmed, and then put them all in one post because I like them all. Yay!
Check it out: In addition to amazing deals on shoes, today 6pm.com is featuring a ton of video game deals today. (No, I don’t get it, either. Just go with it.)
The Target Daily Deals include a nice all-wood tool set for little ones as well as some other good deals.
The Barnes & Noble Deal of the Day is the complete series of Homicide: Life on the Street for $60. (For reference: The set is about $100 at Amazon right now.)
And over at Graveyard Mall they’re having a Thanksgiving week sale, which includes lots of “antique globe” type things, if you’re looking for those sorts of things.
Last—but not least—check out today’s Deal of the Day at Disney if you have a princess-loving little girl. They’ve got Department 56 princess treasure boxes for half price.
I can’t wait to see what all they have tomorrow. It’s like the extended dance remix bargain advent calendar. Or something.
Free tunes
Oh, hi. I have repair guys here tromping mud through my house. Please hold me. (I’ll be under my desk in the fetal position, muttering something about how No, really, feel free to keep grinding mud into the carpet. Repeatedly.)
While I try not to hurt anyone, feel free to go grab $3 worth of free MP3s at Amazon. I am going to take my free tunes, my headphones, and maybe a snack, and go weep for my carpets for a little bit.
Friends, family, countrymen
Okay; technically they don’t specify that countrymen are included in this promotion, but I say yes. A mere technicality that they weren’t mentioned!
It’s Friends and Family week at the Discovery Store and the History Channel Store—just use DISCOVER20 and HISTORYFF20, respectively, to take 20% off your purchases. Shipping is automatically free on $100+ at Discovery Store and on $75+ with the History Channel Store.
It’s a great time to stock up on DVDs for your favorite educational programming geek(s), and don’t miss the sale toys at the Discovery Store, either.
Black Friday Week
Who wants to wait for Friday for deals, when Amazon is having Black Friday Deals this whole week? It’s basically Lightning Deals on steroids, and it’s happening all week long.
I guess I’m not getting anything done this week….
Saturday deals
Hey, I never did the Hallmark contest winners. That’s coming next (I didn’t forget! I just saw something shiny!), pinky swear.
Today I’ll be digging out my house in preparation for company and the holiday, but you could certainly get a little shopping done while I’m doing that….
The Target Daily Deals today include a nice accessory pack for the Nintendo DS, and a set of pots and pans for $50. I probably wouldn’t buy those pans as my ultimate set, or anything, but for a kid headed to his first college apartment or something, why not?
There’s all kinds of specials at 6pm.com this weekend with shoes under $15, which is a great time to declare that you’re good enough, you’re smart enough, and doggone it, you deserve some pretty shoes.
Get your sugar shock on over at the Amazon Gold Box, today—they’ve got a deluxe gingerbread house set for $20. (No, I don’t know it it comes with supplemental dental insurance.)
Speaking of Amazon, did you know they sell refurbished Kindles? They do, and they come with a full year’s warranty and a 30-day return policy. The price has just dropped on these babies to just $189 shipped. Just click on “See all buying options” and scroll down to the “Refurbished” section. This could be how that Kindle you thought you couldn’t afford becomes your ultimate holiday gift.
Power Hours are on at Kohls, and everything in the store is on sale. Of course. Everyone can use coupon code SHOPEARLY today for 20% off, and shipping is free on orders of $50+, automatically. Have a Kohls card? Use FREE4MVC for free shipping on any size order.
Alright, contest winners are coming up, as is your weekend chance to win. Don’t go away!
Get your Friday on
This is it—the last Amazon Friday Sale before we hit Black Friday and then the whole season of holiday shopping madness. Are there treasures to be had? Let’s find out!
The Home Improvement section has a bunch of Hunter ceiling fans, today, if you’re in the market for one. (Though I notice that one of them is $199, marked down from… $199. Amazon, I’m a little worried about you.)
Okay. Look; I was willing to walk away from that faux-markdown and move on, but how about a great deal on a lovely… NOT AVAILABLE? (Hello, Amazon? Put down the crack pipe. Please.) Assuming that’s actually one of those Aerogardens and not an actual NOT AVAILABLE, it’s not a bad price to have your own heirloom tomatoes all winter long.
This fire pit gets great reviews, and $110 is the lowest price I’ve seen it hit. (Though I hear that if it was NOT AVAILABLE it’d be even cheaper….)
Someone asked me last week to stop highlighting the great deal on this Earth Pan set, but you know how you use a word three times and then it’s yours? I only have to point this deal out one more time before I break down and buy myself a set. $115 is a great deal on non-stick cookware that’s not going to poison you the way Teflon supposedly will.
Fact: You could not be unhappy in a kitchen where these mixing bowls live. At $40 I’ve always sort of wistfully admired them; at today’s price of $22, I’m considering them.
If you have stand mixer lust (and really, don’t we all?) today the traditional white KitchenAid Artisan mixer is down to $230, with an available $30 rebate. Just sayin’.
Today’s Amazon Gold Box Deal is a huge variety of Corelle dinnerware sets marked down to just $18 for service for four, which is crazy. (Be sure to click through even if the pictured pattern doesn’t do it for you, because there’s 22 other choices!)
And don’t forget to get your tunes on—I can always find something I “need” in the 50 MP3 albums for just $5 each section.
Maybe they even have NOT AVAILABLE, today. That’s my favorite.
Another option for rocking out
If yesterday’s deal on the Beatles Rock Band bundle didn’t do it for you—maybe you don’t need the entire band, or maybe (horrors!) you’re not a fan of the Beatles—you may want to check this one out: Right now you can buy Guitar Hero 5 from Buy.com for $70 shipped! (For comparison: It’s currently $99 at Amazon.)
If you don’t need a whole band, this wouldn’t be a bad way to go. The price is certainly right.
Vampires and toys
Apparently this whole Twilight thing isn’t going away. (I’d really sort of hoped it was. Vampires. Teenagers. Aren’t they all angsty enough without these sorts of stories…?) And to make your holiday season both merry and, um, vampire-y, Toys R Us is holding a New Moon sweepstakes with all sorts of fabulous prizes.
Your teenager will thank you.
Or maybe you’ll thank you. It doesn’t do a thing for me, but I know plenty of adults who’re fascinated with the whole saga, too. Whatever floats your boat. (Or bites your neck.)
