Sit there like an executive

As someone who works at home, I know the importance of having an ergonomic workspace. And I know that because no matter how many times I feel inclined to go sit on the couch with my laptop, I always end up coming back to my desk or having a sore neck. (Hey, I never claimed to be a particularly fast learner….)

Anyway, here’s a deal on a nice desk chair that you might like, if you’re needing one. Right now the RealSpace Soho Carlisle High-Back Leather Chair at Office Depoticon shows as being $249.99, but drops to $149.99 if you put it in your cart and select “Pick Up At Store” rather than delivery. Use coupon code 91231957 to take another 20% off, and you’ve got a really nice chair for around $120 (plus tax).

This assumes you have a local store where you can pick up and a car big enough to hold a big box, of course, but if you do? Score!

$7.99 or less, I’m there

Did you blink and your children shot up a size or two? I don’t know how that happens, I just know that it does. And often right in the middle of summer, when I’ve just bought them all new clothes! The nerve!

Well, right now there’s a huge selection of items $7.99 or less at Children’s Place, just in case you’re facing the Growth Spurt Blues at your house. Don’t forget that coupon code MSA68 is good through June 14th, 2008, for $10 off $75+, too!

I’m either going to shop this sale or just stock up on burlap sacks and tell the kids to deal. It could go either way.

Great deals, plus some crack for the kiddies

My name is Mir, and I do hereby solemnly swear that I have never purchased a Webkinz or Lilkins for my children. Yet—somehow—both of my children are “supercollectors” on the game. This means they each have in excess of ten of these things. Do you need ten of them to play? No, you do not. But the children’s father someone apparently did not receive that memo.

Ahem. What was I talking about? Oh! Right!

Right now you can choose a free Lilkinsâ„¢ with $25 purchase at CompanyKids®, which—if your kids are anything like mine—they totally do not need, but maybe you can tuck it away in the gift closet. And it’s a nice little bonus while you’re picking up some of the amazing deals in the clearance section. Trust me, there’s bargains galore in the clearance, especially if you’re in the market for outwear. (Bonus tip: They have adult sizes in the jackets! For cheap!)

But if you bring that Lilkins anywhere near my house I will cut you.

Is it? Yes, it is!

Wow, it’s been, like, days since we last had a Restaurant.com discount code. Were you in withdrawal? Are you okay? Do you want to talk about it?

(Should I maybe step away from the caffeine…?)

Anyway, if you were looking for one, through June 15th, 2008, take 50% off your Restaurant.com purchase with coupon code FUN. That’s $25 of dining for $5, and let’s face it—you deserve a night out.

All the batteries you need

Rechargeable batteries are so last year. Apparently they have an issue with self-discharge, which sounds to me like a personal problem, but I guess has to do with how long they can hold a charge when not in use. But Sanyo’s Eneloop batteries avoids this problem with superior technology. Or pixie dust. I’m not really sure, but then again, I don’t care how they do it, just that they do it.

So check out this fabulous deal: Buy the Eneloop Travel Power Pack at Amazon for just $19.95. You get the charger, 2 AAAs and 4 AAs. The batteries hold a charge longer than any rechargeables you already own, plus they work right out of the box. But perhaps the best part? They come with spacers that allow you to combine the smaller batteries to be used just like a conventional C or D battery—which means you have all of your battery needs met right here in this set.

The fact that it’s 60% off is just the icing on the cake, no?

Let’s set the record straight

Good morning! Many of you have emailed me lately about ELF cosmetics, all excited because Nordstrom bought them out! And they’ve marked all the make-up down to a dollar while they sell out all of the old packaging before changing over!

Unfortunately, this is some weird email legend going around. Nordstrom doesn’t have anything to do with ELF. Fortunately, though, ELF cosmetics are always just a buck, and the quality is pretty good. So if the whole Nordstrom thing wasn’t the pivotal selling point, for you, you may still want to check ’em out.

Sweeten your deal with a code or two:
CAROLINA gives you 50% off orders up to $15, for a max of $7.50 off
RADIO gives you 50% off $15+
ECTAPDY gives you free shipping on $10 (can be stacked, but you need to reach $10 after the other coupon)

Happy (non-Nordstrom) shopping!

Normally I’m better at keeping secrets

ShopNBCLook, if you tell me to keep it a secret, I will. But if you email it to me, tell me it’s a secret, but then encourage me to put it on my site, well, you can’t complain after I tell everyone. Okay? Okay!

Anyway, there’s this whole big secret sale thing at ShopNBC right now. Sort by price so as to avoid having a heart attack (the page came up for me and that vein in my temple started to throb), and then have a look around. There are some nice prices on jewelry and a few other things.

Throw a party on a budget

The very pretty Laura writes:

Dear Mir,

If you have the time and space to tackle this topic, I’d be forever in your debt (at a 0% APR, hopefully…) because my husband and I are hoping to baptize our two kids sometime this summer. What I’ve learned from hosting their birthday parties (they are 4 & 2) is that, even with a short guest list and an eye on the bottom line, the cost of having even a simple, casual gathering always ends up blowing past the original budget.

I know you’ll have some sage advice, and I’m sure your readers will also chime in with a gaggle of great ideas.

Thanks, in advance, for your help…

This is my kind of question, because I’m all about entertaining on a budget. Let’s get to it. read more…

The good, the bad, and the gentle

The good: The gigantic Semi-Annual Sale at Bath and Body Works is on! Anti-bacterial soaps are 5 for $15 or 7 for $20! Aromatherapy is buy 2, get 2 free! And other stuff!

The bad: I can’t seem to find any coupons to sweeten the deal. And their shipping starts at $6, so if you have a local store you may be better off going there.

The gentle: Although I find some of the BBW scents completely overwhelming, many of them are not. (And lord knows there’s plenty from which to choose!) But I just want to point out that the gentle foaming hand soaps really are gentle; I discovered years ago that they were one of the only hand soap products that didn’t irritate my kids’ delicate winter skin. (Now we live in the south and it’s sort of a moot point, but I still buy it because I like it. But only when it’s on sale.)

When smoker isn’t a dirty word

My husband and I are both those annoying sort of anti-smokers who believe that if you want to smoke, fine, but please do it as far away from us as possible. So it may surprise you to learn that if you say the word “smoker” in front of my husband in just the right way, he gets a little misty and starts to gaze into the distance longingly.

That’s because he doesn’t want to smoke cigarettes, but he’s a huge fan of smoked meats. I keep going back to this Cobb smoker at Amazon to check the price, because I can think of little that would make him happier, frankly. (Yes, we have a grill. A big grill. It’s not a smoker. Don’t ask me, I am short a Y chromosome to really appreciate the nuances, here.)

Anyway, right now that smoker is the Gold Box Deal at an additional $20 off, bringing it down to a good $30 less than the competition when you figure in the shipping. Maybe this Father’s Day, you can care enough to indulge man’s primal urge for smoked dead things.
