If it’s Wednesday it must be Kohls

Been waiting on deals at Kohls? Today’s the day! They’re running a 1-day sale, plus everyone gets $10 Kohls Cash for every $50 spent, plus Kohls card holders can use coupon code PUMPKIN30 for an additional 30% off and code FREE4MVC for free shipping on any size order. No Kohls card? You’ll get automatic free shipping on $75+, or you can opt to ship your order to your local store for pickup for free. You can also use code SPIDER20 for 20% off $100+ or code WEB15 for 15% off under $100.

As always, there’s tons of deals and steals even before you get into the coupons, so it’s a great time to stock up. I’m wading through about 13 pages of Home Closeouts right now, and each markdown is better than the last….

Lands’ End + Halloween = durable adorableness

Full disclosure: One of these Halloween totes showed up in my mailbox, unbidden, and my kids are well beyond trick-or-treating age, anyway. But did I involuntarily squeal when I pulled it from the box? Yes. Yes, I did. I’m not proud.

So check it out: Lands’ End is making Halloween bucket totes the same way they make the rest of their totes—durable, double-stitched canvas, guaranteed forever and capable of carrying a heavy load of library books (go ahead, ask me how I know this)—but in adorable, kid-sized, Halloween-themed versions. And while it’d be cutting it close to get one in time for this Halloween (though you might; they ship pretty fast), they’re marked down to just $9.99 and will literally last forever.

I received the orange pumpkin one. Its face glows in the dark and I love it beyond reason. $9.99 is a steal (seriously, it’s constructed exactly like the giant tote bag I use for library trips). My husband took it to the office to use for candy for his students after my kids argued about which of them would get to have it. I may have to go buy a couple more, is what I’m saying.

The cutest turtle ever

Looking for a toddler-friendly gift that gets them moving but doesn’t take up a ton of room or break the bank? Here you go: Run, don’t walk, to scoop up this Razor Jr. Twisti Turtle Scooter at Amazon for just $13.05 (its lowest price ever). Suitable for kids 18 months and up, it’s not only just about the cutest ride-on I’ve ever seen, it’s guaranteed fun. (For comparison, the listing there is a little weird, so here’s a different model of the Twisti in Lady Buzz that has more reviews and a much higher price.)

My giant children have long since outgrown this adorableness, but if you have a toddler or a preschooler, hop on this one now.

You didn’t even have to stay up

Through noon today (Monday, October 19th), there’s a big Up All Night sale going on at Vera Bradley—they’re taking half off six patterns (with a crazy-good assortment of items).

Shipping is automatically free on your $75+ order, otherwise it’s a flat $8.

The holidays are coming, and if you have a teen girl on your list… well, maybe it’s different elsewhere, but around here, Vera is like crack. But, um, healthier and probably less expensive. (Disclaimer: I have no idea what crack costs.) (Also: Just say no to drugs.)

It’s got electrolytes, or something

I’m not a huge sports drink fan, myself, but I know plenty of people are, especially for their kids in athletics. And I’d love to tell you my problem with them is that they’re unhealthy (true) and have a lot of sugar (also true), but mostly it’s that I think they just don’t taste very good. That said, we do keep some around for super-hot outside days or when someone’s recovering from being sick.

Right now, Amazon has this 12-pack case of 12-ounce Orange Powerades available for just $3.60 as an add-on. Assuming you manage to get your order up to free shipping, that’s stupid cheap, because the shipping alone should be astronomical.

Anyway, if you want some, go and get it. That’s Amazon’s lowest price ever on this.

Leggo my LEGO deal

Have a LEGO-lover in the house? I know this LEGO Ideas Exo Suit is supposed to be some sort of moon exploration get-up, but it reminds me of what Sigourney Weaver used to fight the aliens in Alien and I love it. The fact that this is a highly-rated set and about $10 cheaper than it’s ever been before is just frosting on the cake. (Pro tip: The rule of thumb for LEGO sets is that they tend to retail at about $.10 – $.15 per brick. Less than that and you’re getting a good deal. At 321 pieces for this set, $27 is a bargain.)

As a side note, I don’t know whether to be pleased that one of the included minifigs is clearly female, or annoyed that we’re supposed to believe she took a break from her astronaut duties to put on makeup. Best not to think too hard on that one, I think.

Gear up!

And coming in first place in the Wow They Have Great Brand Name Stuff But I Often Forget To Look There category is… Sierra Trading Post! This is a great site for various outdoor-sportsing-type stuff (camping, skiing, cycling), but also a great resource for discounted outerwear, shoes, and high-end performance wear.

Still, I forget about them now and again, but then I remember when they come out with a great coupon… like today. Right now you can use code ETJXM1015 for 35% off and free shipping, and it seems to work on everything except clearance. That’s okay—everything is already marked down, anyway, and this is a great opportunity to scoop up deals on brands that don’t often get the deepest discounts (Clarks, Columbia, Pearl Izumi, Marmot).

Don’t forget that they have a whole “For The Home” section, too! Lots of goodies in there.

Calling all brace-faces

Have you recently purchased a vacation home for your orthodontist? Having a kid in braces is a special kind of torture for the whole family. (Ahhhh, memories!) Brushing—always a battle—was a whole new sort of war once the kids had metal in their mouths. And of course the orthodontist was only too happy to suggest we buy each child their own $200 sonic toothbrush to pad his pockets further facilitate good oral health.

We all know that once you’ve bought the braces you don’t have enough money left over for that, plus who’s going to spend that kind of bank on a kid who can’t even reliably get their socks into the hamper? But here’s a great compromise: Right now Amazon has this Oral-B Pro-Health For Me Rechargeable Power Toothbrush kit with 2 heads available for just $18.67, its lowest price ever.

Designed especially for tweens and teens, this brush is the perfect choice for reluctant brushers in braces. It cleans gently but thoroughly, has a high customer rating, and it won’t break the bank (or their braces). And I promise not to tell if you buy it for yourself, too—according to the questions/answers on the product page, this is identical to the adult model in function, just with a little more decoration on the handle.

A DIY camera for your STEM kid

I know that every kid has a phone and a tablet and a hundred ways to take a photo without owning an actual camera, but still, I think a kid interested in how cameras work and building things themselves would be intrigued with a DIY kit. At least, that’s what I thought when I saw today’s Kids.Woot‘s offering—an Elenco Bigshot DIY camera kit. Woot is offering it for $60 + $5 shipping and claiming that’s 66% off, so I went to check the price on Amazon; it’s currently $105 over there, so 66% off is a stretch, but it’s still a decent price.

I especially like that it’s got a rotating wheel of lenses on the front. What a cool way to learn a little about optics while you think you’re just fooling around.

Save extra on local deals

This one’s come back again for a day—go check out your local Groupon Deals and you can use coupon code FUN20 for 20% off (up to an additional $50 off) on up to 3 separate purchases! That’s on top of the already discounted price, which means big savings are afoot.

Last time they did this I got some dirt-cheap spa stuff for my girl and me, and we’ve been enjoying it immensely. This time I think I’ll snag some restaurant discounts.

Don’t think there’s anything local you’ll want? Never fear—listed among your “local” deals you’ll find some online offerings, too. There’s truly something for everyone, but hurry, because the coupon expires at midnight tonight.
