Mummy yumminess

Oh, hello there, trio of Blu-ray movies featuring an often-sweaty Brendan Fraser… I noticed that Amazon has dropped your price to just $16 for all three titles. That’s The Mummy, The Mummy Returns, and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor at an average of just over $5 apiece, not even counting all of the bonus features and such.

And it would be hard to put a price on a sweaty Brendan Fraser, anyway. Ahem.

Make math fun

The great big Amazon December Toy Clearance isn’t quite here, yet, but I’m seeing rumblings. Price drops are beginning. I’m getting excited.

In the meantime, if you have an early elementary child who needs a little math practice (or a teacher for whom a classroom game would be a great gift), may I suggest Sum Swamp? It’s down to just $8, with great reviews. And it’s totally justifiable because it’s educational, too.

And then, if you’re very lucky, someday you’ll have a nearly-teen like mine. You know, one who says all she wants for Christmas is an iPod Touch, but—failing that—she’ll take a pair of fake Uggs and a scientific calculator. (Hey, even nerdlings need to keep their feet warm.)

When it ships free, it’s for me

Hey, it’s another free shipping extravaganza at Eddie Bauer, with all orders shipping for free with coupon code STNICK through tomorrow (December 9th, 2010).

And this is me, not making any comments about their sub-zero jackets or their interesting approach to sizing. That’s because the last time I posted an Eddie Bauer deal they took me to task on Twitter for my comments. (Not really; they told me they’d work on their sizing and I responded very maturely with an all-caps plea about how they were not allowed to change the Blakely pants because they’re my favorite. Yeah, I’m totally the boss of Eddie, now.)

I’m off to shop. And possibly dodge lightning bolts.

Pocket camcorders: Flip vs. PlaySport

I know a lot of folks are looking at picking up convenient camcorders, this holiday season, so I thought I’d take a minute to give you a quick comparison.

Right now Amazon has a Kodak PlaySport bundle available for $139; that includes the PlaySport camcorder, a 4GB SD card, flexible tripod, and a remote. On the other hand, the comparable 4GB Flip MinoHD camcorder will currently run you $148 without any accessories at all. Beyond the better price for the bundle, though, I’m going to give this smackdown to Kodak for all of these other reasons:

1) My husband is a professional photographer, and he prefers the Kodak (we have both); he thinks the user interface on the Kodak is somewhat better. (Although—to be fair—he does lament the PlaySport not having an external mic jack, which is not a concern for casual users.)

2) The Flip’s memory and battery are internal, whereas the Kodak takes SD cards and a removable battery—more shooting time on the fly, provided you have cards and batteries to spare.

3) The fact that the PlaySport is waterproof to 10 ft is magnificent, because we have tried a couple of different “guaranteed waterproof” housings for the Flip and they all leak.

In fact, the only solid point in the Flip’s favor I can come up with is that the Flip is slightly smaller/lighter than the PlaySport. Not so much that it really matters to most, though.

If you’ve been thinking about a pocket camcorder, I hope this helps.

Two ways to scoop up purse/bag savings

Does someone on your list need a pretty purse or other bag? Do you deserve a pretty purse for all of your savvy shopping efforts? (Here, let me answer that one for you: Yes!) I’ve got two ways to save for you, right here.

First, The Sak is offering a “Sak Buster” (read: web-exclusive) deal on the Silverlake Bucket right now; the regular price is $159, but they have it for just $59. It comes in four different colors and shipping is automatically free on your $50+ order.

Second, this link to eBags will give you 20% off and free shipping, through December 11th. I tend to shop there for purses, but they truly have everything you might want from wallets all the way up to gigantic suitcases.

Purses aren’t quite as fulfilling as shoes, but they’re very close.

One word about shopping/shipping: Snow

For those of you who like to push off your holiday shopping as long as possible, having Amazon Prime this year probably feels like a saving grace. Two day shipping for free! Cheap overnight shipping! Why, you could wait to shop until just a few days before the holiday!

Except… don’t do that. According to meteorologists, it’s going to be a very white Christmas for much of the country, and you can expect some shipping delays as the weather worsens. (Even if you don’t live in an area where it will snow, chances are your stuff may be moving through affected areas.)

Bottom line? Get your shopping done, folks. Better done than delayed.

St. Nick’s got your robe right here

Once again, Santa is delivering over at Lands’ End: Today’s St. Nick’s Pick is robes for the entire family, starting at just $25 for the kids.

Using my link will automatically apply a free shipping coupon to your order, or—depending on what you’re buying—swap it out for coupon code TINSEL with PIN 1212 to instead save $20 on $75+ or $50 on $150+.

I have to say, I picked myself up a free robe on the recent Ulta offer, but now I’m wondering if I should’ve held out for this. It’s awfully cold in my office… maybe I need two robes? Oh, fine. I was just kidding. Mostly.

It’s been that kind of week

You know how sometimes it’s a really bad week, and then you look around and realize that hey, it’s only Wednesday? Yeah. Welcome to my world!

I’m just saying that I may be a tad overexcited by today’s Pittsburgh Groupon. I mean, $45 for a 6-bottle tasting pack of wine from MyWinesDirect.com is a great deal even if life is going swimmingly. But given how my week is going, wine may be all that more appealing because it goes with, you know, whine.

Either way, though.

Do make sure to check the delivery availability before you buy; some of you live in states where the shipping of alcohol is prohibited. (How much wine do you need to deal with that, exactly…?)

Apologies for the Mini Boden coupon confusion

Hey folks—thank you so much for bearing with me after the problems with this morning’s post about a coupon code Mini Boden. (I have removed the post per retailer request.)

So here’s the deal: One of the benefits I now enjoy since being selected as a Savings.com DealPro is that I have access to their exclusive offers here on Want Not, which is awesome. I don’t know if you’ve noticed in last month or so, but I’ve had lots of offers to pass along which I formerly didn’t have access to. This is very very cool, and without getting into a bunch of boring details let me just say that it’s a very nice thing the Savings folks are doing for the DealPros and our readers.

That said, allowing all of us to access their deals database is relatively new and sometimes not without hiccups. I saw the Mini Boden deal this morning and grabbed it; several of you let me know it wasn’t working; I contacted Savings immediately (though they’re on the opposite coast and I’d posted quite early, so we had to wait); they contacted Mini Boden, and here is the final result:

We were told that [the posted coupon code] was going to be live this AM, so we posted the deal as planned. As soon as we heard from you that it wasn’t working though, we removed it. The folks at Boden, along with the team here, pass along their apologies for the trouble and confusion your readers experienced.

I’m still trying to find out of this offer might still go into effect at a later point and will keep you posted.

I think most of you know that I’m always trying to bring you the greatest deals I can find, and while that never involves me trying to deceive you or somehow break the rules, sometimes deals change, or things don’t work quite right, or plain ol’ human error comes into play. I’m very sorry this morning’s deal turned out to be a false alarm, and sincerely appreciate those of you who were good-humored about it. You’re very pretty.
