Your morning entertainment

Long-time Want Not readers know that I never skip an opportunity to link you up to one of my very favorite sites, Will It Blender?. If you’ve never been there, I apologize for your wasted morning—you can spend a lot of time there watching various household items be pulverized into dust by a Blendtec blender.

I mention this today because Amazon has the Blendtec Home blender available today for $305. Look; I know it’s crazy. I know. The idea of spending that much on a blender makes me break out in hives, but on the other hand, I use my blender every day and have been buying a new one every couple of years because “regular” blenders just don’t hold up to that kind of wear and tear the way to Blendtec or a Vitamix will.

So, um, I’m just letting you know about this deal. Even though I know it’s still a crazy price for a blender. It’s a crazy price for a blender, but actually a crazy good price for a Blendtec.

P.S. This would make a lovely holiday gift for your favorite smoothie-addicted blogger if you happen to be independently wealthy. Just sayin’.

A buck a ream to stock up

I’m just going to say this up front: If you don’t use a lot of paper, this is probably not the deal for you. (Unless you have children, of course—in that case, of course you use a lot of paper. Even if it’s in the form of “Look, Mom, I made you something!”)

But if two cases of paper sounds pretty sweet to you, try this one out. Right now Office Depot has cases of 30% recycled Hammermill paper for $52.39 apiece. Not such a great deal, you’re thinking? Stop being so impatient.

1) If you buy two cases ($104.78 in your cart), you can apply coupon code 90039496 to save $20, making your up-front total $84.78.
2) It ships for free.
3) You can redeem this rebate twice, once for each box—that’s $32.40 back for each case, or nearly $65 coming back to you.
4) Your total when all is said and done is just under $20—$10/box—or about a dollar a ream.

I’m not a huge fan of rebates—I mean, sure, wouldn’t we rather save the money up-front?—but for deals like this I make an exception.

10/10/10!

Welcome to October 10th, 2010, or—as the number-obsessed like to call it—10/10/10. It’s a mystical number, worthy of magical things and tossing a black cat over your shoulder* for good luck. Or something.

It’s also a great day for special sales. Huzzah!!

Check out the assortment of $10 styles at 6pm.com, starting at 10:10 a.m. Eastern! It’s a fine day for shoes, my friends!

Starting at 10:10:10 am Central (not yet, but soon!), all Threadless t-shirts will be just $10 apiece. This is a great way to scoop up your favorite designs on sale before their giant sale prior to the holidays.

Not technically a 10/10/10 deal, but if you haven’t done this one yet (seriously, what are you waiting for?), hop over to today’s Boston Groupon (it’s one of the side deals; look in the right sidebar) to snag $20 to Soap.com for just $10. It’s like free money.

I’ll keep my eyes open for other 10/10/10 deals, but that’s a good start, right?

Edited to add: Woooo, Amazon is getting in on the fun! Check out their 10/10/10 Toy Sale, too!

* Please do not cats of any color over your shoulder. That just seems mean.

Saturday deals

Aaaaahhhhh, Saturday! I love you. Please marry me. I’m sure my husband will only mind a little bit. All’s fair in love and sleeping in, after all.

Let’s see what today holds for us. (And by “holds for us,” I of course mean “has in the way of bargains you can totally justify.”)

I have been eyeing this Pure Komachi 2 knife set for a while, and today if you buy it directly from Amazon it’s just $50. Great reviews, though I’m still trying to decide what it says about me if I buy a rainbow of knives instead of something more serious-looking.

Did you know that it’s Overstocktober? It totally is! Screaming deals every day, plus chances to win and specials all month long. Today’s deals include a couple of GPS bargains, but there’s goodies all over the site. (Related, kind of: It’s also Crocktober! Yay for a new crock recipe every day this month!)

Today is Old Navy’s 16th birthday! Can you believe it? Now it’s old enough to drive and say “You’re not the boss of me!” with true conviction. To celebrate, they’re offering all sorts of things for just $16 each, plus free shipping when you spend $50+ (use code ONSHIP50). Meanwhile, Gap is offering 30% off most outerwear, and offering free shipping on $50 with code GAPSHIP50. As the two stores share a cart, I’m not entirely sure what happens if you try to combine those two offers. Possibly a rift in the space-time continuum. Worth a try, though, right?

In honor of Columbus Day, all kinds of stuff is 50% off at Children’s Place, including Halloween costumes! Plus you can use coupon code SORRY to save an additional 20%. Which is kind of crazy.

I’m not looking at 6pm. Not looking. Not looking. Okay, maybe just with one eye. (They’ve got a rare men’s shoe event going on, as well as brands like Ugg and Fitzwell in the spotlight. I’m only human, people.)

Don’t forget to scope out your local Groupon deal for today, or just waltz on over to the San Antonio Groupon to snag $30 to Blonde Birdie for just $15! Their stuff is adorable! (Look in the sidebar after you click through for this deal—it’s in kind of tiny print.)

I’m in the mood for something kind of Halloween-y (it’s coming up, you know), so I think we’ll have a very spooky contest later today. Be sure to check back!

Friday, I thought you’d never get here

It’s been One Of Those Weeks. This morning my alarm went off and my first thought was “Hey, I can sleep in tomorrow.” You know it’s been a crazy long week when the thought of sleeping past 5:30 is the happiest thing you can think of. Yeah.

Anyway! I have to get through today before the Joy Of Sleep, so let’s get to it.

Oh, Amazon Friday Sale! I keep hoping you’ll cough up something great, like the old days. You do have these Annie’s Homegrown Bunny Friends at $14.34 shipped (when buying via Subscribe & Save) for 6 boxes, which is a great price for an all-natural Teddy Grahams alternative. So that’s nice. And of course if I was in need of several billion pounds of coffee, I’d know where to go…. Also—it’s not part of the Friday Sale, but—if you want six jars of Skippy Natural Creamy Peanut Butter for just $9.30 delivered, buy via Subscribe & Save and apply coupon code SKWISHEL; the combination of discounts takes off 30%, making this natural PB cheaper than the processed stuff.

The Amazon Gold Box today holds a Panasonic Arc IV Nanotech Vortex Shaver for $105, which—believe it or not—is about $50 cheaper than you can get it elsewhere. Personally, for over a hundred bucks I expect my razor to also make me breakfast, but whatever. People really seem to love it, so there you go. And finally, I know nothing about this brand, but an organic cotton layette set for just $6.95 shipped (you do have Prime now, right?) seems pretty darn gift-closet-worthy, to me.

Toys ‘R’ Us is not only having a giant Columbus Day sale today and tomorrow, they even have this year’s Lego City Advent Calendar in stock (and on sale). For your shopping pleasure, orders of $100+ automatically ship for free, and if you spend $75+ you can use coupon code 940710 for 20% off your order. You could knock out a chunk of holiday shopping before the real frenzy begins!

I know we may be all shoe-d out from yesterday (if there is such a thing), but today 6pm is doing their end-of-season sale on sandals. Plus Keens are up to 55% off! Just sayin’.

Have you checked out Groupon lately? I’ve gotten some great local deals in addition to the national ones. Today’s side deal in Cincinnati is $15 for $40 worth of products at pH Advantage, if you’ve been wanting to try some fancy skin products at less-fancy prices.

I pinky swear I will have contest winners for you later today (I owe you from this week and also last weekend). Honest. And after that, I’m totally going to be more organized. Hee. I’m funny.

Guilt-free potato chips

I’m not going to lie to you: I do love me some genuine, full-fat, fried potato chips. I’m not a robot, people. (If you must know: Preferably kettle cooked, and salt-n-vinegar if at all possible. But I’m not choosy when it comes to junk food.) The reality, of course, is that what I like and what I actually buy are two very different things, both because I’m trying to instill good eating habits in my kids and because I’d like to be around to meet their kids, too.

So. Are Popchips as good as conventional potato chips? No, of course not. Nothing tastes as good as fat. (Mmmm… fat!) But are Popchips a reasonable facsimile to hit the gimme-something-crunchy spot? Absolutely. Which is why every time Amazon puts them on sale, I buy a case. My poor deprived children think they’re awesome, because I never buy real potato chips.

And right now you can use coupon code OCTOPOPS (love that—am picturing tiny octopii on sticks) to save another 15%, and then buy via Subscribe & Save to save another 15% and get free shipping. Why, a case of 24 single-serve bags of original flavor currently comes out to just under $.40/bag.

So you get to save money, you get to buy something with non-artery-clogging ingredients you can pronounce, and when your children wise up and accuse you of “never buying potato chips,” you can remind them that technically, that’s not true.

Not that that’s ever happened to me, or anything.

It’s about time! I mean, um, huzzah!

Hey, guess what! Remember how I always tell you when you can earn Kohls Cash with your purchase, but then I grumble about how you have to go to the store to redeem it?

Not anymore!

Now you can redeem Kohls Cash at Kohls online. I know I just mentioned them yesterday, but I meant to go to the actual store with mine and then didn’t, and then while poking around online today discovered that you can now redeem it online. Sweeeeeeeeeet!

(Right now they’ve got $.99 shipping on every item, and if you have any Kohls Cash from the latest promotion, it expires on October 17th. Just sayin’.)

Roll into my office

Looking for a cushy desk chair without a cushy price tag? Right now Office Depot has this high-back rolling leather armchair available for $90, but if you apply coupon code 66471148 you’ll save an additional $15, making it just $75 delivered for a nice leather desk chair.

We actually own this chair; it’s the one my husband uses in his office. (I am now using his old chair. Because I’m nice like that.) I may have gotten it for a little bit cheaper (every now and then you can snag one for around $50, when Mercury is in retrograde and it’s an alternate Wednesday when the moon is full), but if you’ve been searching, this isn’t a bad price. And it’s very comfortable!

Shoes, shoes, and (surprise!) more shoes

Oh, I know things have been a little shoe-heavy ’round here lately. But sometimes you need to do some serious shoe shopping when the seasons change. Or when your kid decides to wear his practically-brand-new New Balance sneakers into the muddy creek. Not that I’m bitter.

And sure, there’s Asics, Skechers and Nikes on special at 6pm.com today, but that doesn’t mean you can’t peruse their featured assortment of jewel-toned clothing and accessories (my name is Mir, and I love purple) while you’re there….

Meanwhile, over at Shoes.com you have through the weekend to take an additional 25% off sale and clearance items with coupon code 25SALE. Want something that’s not already on sale? Code FALL2010 takes 15% off.

And at Famous Footwear, the Fall Boot Sale is on (savings of up to 50%), and coupon code SAIL15 will take another 15% off your order.

Finally, if you want to shop at Shoebuy, you can use coupon code EMLCOLUMBUS10 for an extra 20% off your order.

There. Thursday is now, officially, shoetastic. You’re welcome!

Deck the halls with actual furniture

Tell the truth: Do you still have that futon you picked up on the side of the road when you were in college? Or a hand-me-down dresser that’s perfectly fine because you’ve got a 2×4 wedged under that busted back leg?

I feel you. I only got rid of the last of my “pre-adult” furniture a couple of years ago. And part of how I did it was by shopping the Outlet at Home Decorators Collection, one of my very favorite places to get more expensive (read: not junky) furniture on the cheap.

So when I got the email this morning saying that they’re now doing automatic free shipping on orders of $299+, I may have done a little dance of glee.

Of course, their prices tend to be so low that paying for shipping wasn’t a huge problem, but if you can get it shipped for free, so much the better. Now go forth and seriously, get a real rug for in there. One the dog hasn’t puked on, yet.
