Please wear with your polo collar flipped up

I don’t know what it is about 6pm.com that always seems to put me right into the Wayback Machine, but it gets me every time. Because I just clicked over there and what do I think of? Do I have an association when it comes to sale Dekline, Skechers, or slashed prices on designer eyewear? No, of course not.

All I see is 70% off Vans, and immediately I am transported back to middle school, when only the cool boys wore Vans, and I sat in the corner, nervously righting the collar of my (one and only) Izod polo shirt, hoping against hope that they would notice me.

Nerdery: You never outgrow it. (Fortunately, Vans really grew up—check out the adorable styles they have now in addition to the standards from “back in the day.” Don’t like ’em? Well, you can just get off my lawn, whippersnapper!)

Ahoy, snackies!

I’m a fool for Amazon Grocery Manager’s Specials; we all know that. But when they put natural/organic snacks on sale, then they’re really playing my song. So if you doubt that I got excited to see that Cheddar Cheese Pirate’s Booty is currently just $16.67 for 12 big bags, well, you must be new here.

Yes, I’m only human, and despite my declared love for healthy foods, I cannot tell a lie: I do love Cheetos. But they make me feel dirty inside. Pirate’s Booty, on the other hand, makes me feel like a nice mom (the kids are easily impressed) and doesn’t turn my fingers orange. At my grocery store, though, these bags run about $3 – $4 apiece. One order from Amazon and we’re snacking for the next few months at a great bargain price.

It totally shivers me timbers.

Back-up batteries

We are slowly making the switch to rechargeable batteries, here, but of course we keep alkalines around because sometimes your batteries are out of charge and you need to play Mario Kart do something very important and life-altering with AA batteries right now. And then I swear to buy extra rechargeables and I never do.

Well, right now Amazon is offering an 8-pack of Sanyo Eneloop AA batteries for under $20 (Prime and Free Super Saver Shipping eligible). That’s the cheapest I’ve seen them go, and because Eneloops are arguably the gold standard of rechargeables—they have “very slow self discharge” which means even if you charged them last year and stuck them in a drawer, they’re probably still mostly charged—you’re likely to always have batteries at the ready when you need ’em.

For those important, life-altering tasks. Of course.

How does your garden grow?

My garden grows with things I sprouted myself from seeds, or with things I bought at a deep discount so that I won’t have to be too sad when I accidentally kill them. Ahem.

Right now you can shop Spring Hill Nursery and save $25 on your $50+ purchase through that link, or—if you’re buying less—go ahead and apply coupon code 414217 to take $20 off your $20+ order.

Both promotions can each be used only once per household, so plan and shop accordingly. They’ve got plenty of deals going, too, so there’s no shortage of ways to maximize the savings.

Happy planting!

Rockin’ the Wii without instruments

I’ll confess: As much fun as I think Guitar Hero and Rock Band for the Wii are, my hesitation about acquiring either of them isn’t just financial. It’s spatial. I don’t particularly want to have to store a guitar or two or—ack!—an entire set of band instruments somewhere in our (already cramped) family room.

So when they first came out with Ultimate Band I was immediately intrigued because you don’t need instruments (score!), but I figured I’d wait for some reviews and also for the price to drop. Well, my wish has been granted; it’s currently just $8.74 and Prime/Super Saver Shipping eligible at Amazon. At that price, I can get one for us and a few for the gift closet. According to the reviews, it’s suitable for younger kids than Guitar Hero and Rock Band, and more active, too.

Plus it doesn’t clutter my house. So, you know, points for that.

Please be seated

Looking for a dinette set for your kitchen or a small space? Target to the rescue with this Dolce real wood dining set that seats four.

Sure, you could’ve spend $360 at the store, originally, but right now it’s marked down to $200 with free shipping and an automatic 15% off, making it $170. And remember that if you click through this link you’ll get another $5 off, making it $165 + tax to your door.

Alternatively, you could spend an afternoon slogging your way through a bunch of furniture stores, looking at stuff you can’t afford, anyway. I mean, if you’re some kind of masochist. I don’t judge. Much.

Warm and cuddly next winter

They say the early bird gets the worm, and the bargain shopper is always ready for the next season (or three). I mean, I’m sure someone says that.

Sure, right now all you want is shorts and t-shirts while you dream of icy drinks with little umbrellas in them (oh wait, that’s me…) but winter will be back before you know it. And when it is, won’t you feel smart when you whip out this two pack of cuddly wraps you grabbed at Amazon for just $6.19? (Only the red are available at this price.) Sure, it doesn’t say Snuggie on them, nor are you likely to need them any time soon, but at just over $3 apiece, once the cold winds are blowing again, you’ll be glad you planned ahead.

They ship for free with Prime, or pick up a bunch to get free Super Saver Shipping and make it a Very Imitation Snuggie Christmas next year. Or something.

Saturday deals

I’d love to stay and chat, but someone is having a birthday this weekend, which means that someone is following me around with a shopping list for a taco bar for a Very Important Party, making demands about sour cream. (If you think I’m kidding, you obviously don’t have a 12-year-old. Please pray for me.)

Anyway, before I go spend this week’s paycheck at the grocery store to feed a bunch of kids who aren’t even mine, here’s a few deals to keep you busy.

It wouldn’t be Earth Day without a bunch of sales (um… what?), so check out the special up-to-40%-off savings at Drugstore.com to celebrate the day we all stop and wonder what we’re doing to our planet. Ahem. And don’t leave Fido out of the fun—you can also take 15% off and get free shipping on $60+ at PETCO using coupon code affearth, too.

Still in the market for a Nintendo DSi? Currently Amazon has the white DSi marked down to $129, even though the other colors are still $169. (White must be the least popular. But really, who cares? That’s why God made stickers and cases, am I right?)

There’s about a zillion specials and markdowns at Toys ‘R’ Us and Babies ‘R’ Us right now, and if you spend $100+ (excluding video game consoles and hardware), your order will ship for free.

The Target Daily Deals have a pop-up gazebo for half off that might be useful this summer… plus they have one of those combo stool/seat things I always want for the kitchen until I picture my son on top of the refrigerator. (Yes, he’s 10. Yes, it would still happen.) Don’t forget to clicky clicky through this link to activate an additional $5 off $50 coupon if you spend that much.

This weekend 6pm.com has—among other things—Tevas for the whole family, starting at just $13 for the kids. Score.

I should never have looked at the weekend Hot Buys at Oneida, because now I want new dishes. (Check out that Adriatic set. So pretty! But even at half off I cannot justify them. Alas. If you buy them, send me pictures. Heh.)

Eyeing something over at Coldwater Creek? Through the weekend you can use coupon code WHH7179 to take $25 off your $50+ order. It looks like they’re not offering free standard shipping on $50+ order automatically, too.

Have a most excellent Saturday, and if you have any extra sour cream, please bring it over here. Apparently someone is anticipating a shortage. (I don’t know. I’m not even going to ask.)

Hey hey, Friday

It’s finally happened. I think I’ve completely given up on the Amazon Friday Sale. Why, Amazon, why? You disappoint me.

Some other places to get your deal on, today:

Shop Kohls through the weekend and everyone can use code THANK20 for an additional 20% off your order. Buy $75+ worth and ship it for free with code MY75SHIP.

Alert (and pretty!) Want Not reader Sheila pointed out that 1 Sale A Day has a Jawbone Aliph bluetooth headset available today for just $30.

Want to make your man snazzy? Today Jos. A. Bank is offering everything at half-off, which means it’s a great time to pick up those business and business-casual pieces you hate to shell out for. (Love me some JA Bank, man. Nothin’ yummier than a man rocking a nice suit that really fits him well.)

Get your fitness on: Today at 6pm.com, they’re offering big discounts on New Balance shoes for the entire family. And then you can reward your tireless dedication to family fitness with a pair of pretty heels. Oh, like you’ve never done that.

Through the weekend you can shop Fabric.com and take an additional 20% off items already on clearance with coupon code CLEAR415.

Right now buy whatever you like at Overstock.com and your entire order ships for just $1. Even if you buy a sofa. Or a dining room table. Or just one CD. It doesn’t matter, it ships for a buck.

That should keep you busy for a while. And maybe fill the Friday-Sale-shaped hole in your heart, for now.

Tax relief for your wardrobe

You did get your tax returns in on time, right? Of course you did.

Now you can head on over to Lane Bryant over the next four days and enjoy their little answer to a “tax relief sale.” Just apply coupon code 020000653 at checkout to take $20 off your order of $40+!

I don’t know if doing your taxes is the best excuse to go shopping, but it if brings us half off deals like this, why not?
