Big sale for big patience
If you think I haven’t been posting as much this week, you’re correct—in my case, the holiday aftermath included being buried under a mountain of work so massive, I still haven’t quite dug my way out. I’m typing to you now through a small emergency air vent, in fact.
And so it’s really killing me, a little bit, that there’s a huge amount of Home and Garden markdowns at Amazon right now, and I really don’t have time to go through them all. A quick scan revealed some rock-bottom prices on holiday items; ornaments, table linens, and other decorations are all on clearance. There’s probably some fabulous stuff in there. But I’ll leave it to you to ferret out the things you can’t live without, because if I start really digging through, I’m liable to lose my rather tenuous hold on this digging I’m doing.
Carry on.
Cuddle up with cocoa
The wind is howling, the snow is falling (well, maybe where you are, anyway), and it’s a good time to hide under a blanket and sip some really good cocoa. Trust me on this.
Right now at Amazon, they’re offering 20% off Ghirardelli hot chocolate products with coupon code GHIRA444. And most of those products are already a third off, so the final price is quite nice.
If you want to really earn the Want Not seal of planning, go ahead and stock up for next year’s holiday gifts. (It’s okay, they’re sealed and shelf-stable.) I won’t tell anyone, and I’ll secretly be so proud of you.
Give the gift of a great story or twelve
I never used to like audio books—I’d try listening to one, at night, and invariably fall asleep. But ever since getting an iPod a while back, I’ve discovered the magic. It turns out that the magic is not in listening at bedtime, but in having something interesting to listen to while I sit at soccer practice or shop for groceries or sit in a tiny chair waiting to have a parent-teacher conference. And lo, I saw the light (heard the story?), and it was very good.
So here’s a nifty little thing, if you haven’t seen the light yet, or you need a gift for someone who’s hard to buy for: Right now at Barnes and Noble, you can pick up a Simply Audiobooks one-month subscription for just $6.25 (less, if you’re a member). This will allow you or the person you give it to to borrow two audio books at a time, up to as many total as you can use in a month. It also comes with a bonus story on CD.
I’m thinking I may just try this out. But I’m also thinking this would be kind of an awesome end-of-year teacher gift. (Remember, shipping is free on $25+ orders!)
Look Ma, no cavities in 2009
I love it when something I give away on the site ends up being more affordable. Love it.
Remember the recent Oral-B contest? Still wishing you could get yourself one of those fancy toothbrushes?
Guess what! You can—while the Oral-B Triumph (the one I gave away) is still at $98.99 at Amazon, the Oral-B Pulsonic (an older model with fewer bells and whistles) is currently just $38.68. And on either model, you can use coupon code BRAUNJN9 to save another 10% instantly, plus there’s still an available $15 rebate valid for either model. If you opt for the Pulsonic one, after discount and rebate it’s under $20.
I think I’m going to bite the bullet and get one for the child who’s in braces. I’m getting a little tired of explaining what “brush really well” means.
Spend more, save more
I have very mixed feelings about those “spend more, save more” kinds of coupons. On the one hand, isn’t that everything that’s wrong with the American consumer-centric mindset about having more stuff? But on the other hand… oooh! Savings! Yay!!
I’m a very conflicted person. It’s hard being me, y’all.
Maybe you’ve still got some holiday money or a bit of mad money on hand, and if so, why not get yourself a good deal if you’re planning to spend it, anyway? So here you go: Right now at Macy’s, they’re giving you extra savings on all sorts of stuff. Spend $100, save $25. Spend $150, save $50. Spend $200, get $75 off! Clearance and some other items are excluded, but a quick look reveals that it applies to all kinds of things.
And if you’re going to be shopping, anyway, you might as well save some dough….
Also, pillaging!
I do love it when Sierra Trading Post has a big sale. I do. But to call it the “Slash and Burn Sale” just brings to mind all sorts of decidedly un-shopping-like things. Like pirates! And rogues! Not so much hiking gear, you know?
Whatever. They can slash and burn. Me, I’ll take the additional 22% off clearance items and run.
Want to save even more? Use coupon code ALC1079 for $10 off of your $100+ order. Just to increase your stolen treasure. (Okay, stopping now.) (Wait, one more: Aye, me hearties! Okay, now I’m done.)
Can I deduct that?
It’s that time again—for the entire month of January, TurboTax is once again answering your tax questions for free. The Customer Care Center is open from 7 to 7 each day, and you can submit one question to be answered (via a call back, at a time you select) for free.
That’s a $29.95 value, but really, you can’t place a value on not being audited.
Is your mailbox feeling empty?
The holiday cards have all come and gone, and chances are that your mailbox seems a little less full and perky than it did before the holidays. (Mailboxes can too be perky. Hush.)
Why not combine your vows of healthier eating with a happy mailbox? Simply complete a brief survey to receive free cereal from Barbara’s Bakery.
Yummy. Mailbox-filling. And free! It’s all good.
10 days to save big on Blu-ray
Need some cool discs for your brand-new Blu-ray? For the next ten days Amazon is running a Buy 2, Get 1 Free special on select Blu-ray discs. There are over 200 from which to choose, so you shouldn’t have any trouble finding three you simply have to have.
(Me, I won’t be switching over until regular DVD is obsolete. And then you’ll find me kicking and screaming and clinging to my discs. Look, the switch from VHS was plenty traumatic and I’m just not ready to do it again. But good for you for embracing new technology. Can I come watch a movie at your place?)
It’s de-Lightfull
I know, I keep talking about diet and fitness stuff. It’s not you, it’s me. You look marvelous. Me, I have a bad case of NewYearItis, with a side of flab. Very tragic. But don’t worry—I’ll be back to my usual denial and apathy about such things by Valentine’s Day. Happens every year.
In the meantime, though, here’s a great deal on Lightfull Latte Smoothies: They’re today’s Gold Box Deal, so already a 12-pack is just $14. Sign up for Subscribe & Save (which you can cancel after your order ships) and save another 15%. And use coupon code LIGHTF43 for another 10% off; you’ll get 12 smoothies for about $10.50. (Order 2 packages and it’ll ship for free, too, even though it’s under $25 at the end, because the original cost was $28.)
Each one has just 90 calories and enough fiber to help you feel full, and these are apparently a big favorite amongst the Weight Watchers crowd. For that price, I’m willing to give ’em a whirl.
