Just add wine
Oh, Amazon’s getting into this whole “countdown to Black Friday” thing, and it’s really starting to tempt me, here. Today’s deal is that you can get 2 Frontman wireless guitars for just $20 when you buy them with either Guitar Hero 3 or Guitar Hero Aerosmith for the Wii. (Guitar Hero 3 is already 30% off, too!)
I’ve only played Guitar Hero once, but I immediately understood the draw, once I’d tried it. Of course, we were in a roomful of people all drinking wine and making fun of each other, so the details are a little fuzzy. I just remember laughing really hard, right up until I was booed off the stage by that mean audience on the Wii. There at the party, no one booed. Though they did keep laughing.
Wait; tell me again why I think I want this…?
Because the weather outside is frightful
Apparently we hit a record low temperature ’round these parts, yesterday. So when I was stomping around complaining that Georgia was not, in fact, any warmer than my old home of New England, I was totally justified! Because getting up when it’s 21 degrees outside is cruel and unusual unusual punishment, and there’s a reason I moved.
Anyway.
Right now select outerwear is 40% off at The Children’s Place, and they’ve finally put out a new discount code, too. Use HAC8 for 15% off all orders, through December 8th, 2008. Shipping is always just $5, regardless of order size, so you may as well pick up some extra mittens. Brrrrrr.
Even the things I covet are nerdy
You can laugh at me about this one. I don’t mind.
I’m pretty sure I have poked fun, on here, at the stainless steel compost pails I keep seeing. I mean, on the one hand, I sort of want one; but on the other, I’m not spending $56 on a bucket for my food scraps.
I just came across this Bamboo Compost Pail at Cooking.com and… and… I want it. $39.95 is a bargain, comparatively, right? Right? And if I use coupon code C98329 I can ship my whole order for just $5.99….
I know. Still too expensive. Still very silly to have a fancy bucket for food scraps. But it’s just so pretty.
Okay, you can laugh, now.
This is the last time. Probably.
Okay, after this I’m going to stop. But the Harman Kardon Drive + Play that so many of you got on a previous deal at Buy.com is available at Amazon for just under $27.
Also, I have a Want Not reader who purchased one on the last deal who wishes to sell it at cost (around $18, I think)—leave a comment if you’re interested and I’ll hook you up.
And after this, hopefully everyone will have one and I can stop posting it for those who are sick of seeing it. Heh.
Bakugan starter packs (start the madness)
I feel like a drug dealer. Yeah, I know it’s horrible. Yeah, I know it’s annoying. But all the kids are doing it, and here, just try it….
I’m sorry. I’m a terrible person. I hang my head at my awfulness.
But nevertheless: Right now 3-figure Bakugan starter packs are available for order at Amazon for just $15.99 (free shipping eligible). The page is defaulting to a different vendor, so don’t panic—simply scroll down a bit and look on the right at “More Buying Choices” and select the $15.99 from Amazon one.
Abandon hope, all ye who enter here. Once your boy-child gets his hands on Bakugan, your world is forever changed. Again; my apologies.
They had me at “PowerSquid”
I’m pretty sure I would love this regardless of the name, but that certainly doesn’t hurt.
Check it out: Philips makes this ingenious 5-outlet surge protector in this funky squid design so that you’re not left with unusable slots due to oversized power plugs (as you would be with a conventional outlet strip). It’s just $9.99 with free shipping today at Buy.com (comparison: $25.94 at Amazon), which is a great deal.
And it’s called a PowerSquid, which is really just the icing on the cake. “Have you seen my PowerSquid?” “Plug that into the PowerSquid, please.” “Hey! Leggo my PowerSquid!” (It’s super fun to say. Try it!)
Ship it for free, even the huge stuff
For two days only—today and tomorrow (November 19-20)—every purchase of $50+ at Toys ‘R’ Us ships for free. This probably doesn’t seem like a very big deal; after all, you can get free shipping at Amazon on nearly everything, most of the time, right?
Here’s why it’s a deal: You’ll get free shipping on the things that no one ever offers free shipping on. Like… swingsets. Play structures. Backyard play houses. Pool tables! Whatever. The point is that if you’d been thinking of buying one of those large, expensive-to-ship items anyway, this may be the deal for you.
(Psssst! That goes for Babies ‘R’ Us, too, as they’re the same company. Need a crib? Changing table? Stroller? Free shipping, and no awkward attempts to stuff a giant box into your car.)
A smattering of deals from. . . you!
Many of you pretty people have mailed in deals lately, and they’re piling up due to my disorganization, so here’s a few of ’em that you really ought to check out:
The My Twinn friend dolls (that is, not look-a-likes—which personally I find a little creepy—but pre-made dolls) are half-off through November 20th, 2008. These are 23″, fully articulated vinyl dolls which can wear most baby clothes. Coupon code MTBDAYNL will give everyone $20 off $100, or code MTTEN75 will give $10 off of $75 to new customers. (Thanks, Gretchen!)
Get free classical music downloads, a new one every day through November 24th, 2008. (Thanks, BB!)
Get free shipping through November 25th, 2008, at American Girl on any order with coupon code GIFTSHIP. They’ve dropped their sale prices again, and there are tons of fabulous (and cheap!) books to be had. (Thanks, Michelle!)
Check out Fujifilm’s new photo hosting site and sign up to receive 50 free prints (just pay shipping). Use coupon code prints-2 to double it to 100 prints! (Thanks, Lori!)
Take 20% off purchases at The Container Store today with coupon code CLUTTERCREW, courtesy of Oprah. (Thanks, Daniel!)
BuildASign is giving away free customizable banners to honor our returning troops. (Thanks, Jenny!)
Y’all are pretty good at this deal-finding thing. Hmmm… what do you need me for, again…?
Car not included
Me, I’m not a car-cleaning kind of person. I wait until I’m having trouble finding the car through the mud or whatever, and then I drive through a car wash. And I clean the inside of the car once every few years whether it needs it or not. What?
My husband, however, cares for his vehicles with a tender attention that borders on reverence. Which is why I think something like this Meguiar’s Quik Care Auto Detailing Kit is the sort of gift he’d really appreciate, even though it sort of makes me snore. At $9.99 (and free shipping eligible), it might be the right gift for a whole bunch of hard-to-buy-for men on my list, actually. (Check out some of the Meguiar’s products on sale if you have car guys on your list.)
And if I wrap it up really pretty, maybe he’ll clean my car, too.
These might be the Legos you are looking for
I dunno; I mean, it sort of looks like a great big brown square, to me, but Star Wars and Lego enthusiasts are sure to set me straight. Nevertheless, Shop Lego is offering the Sandcrawlerâ„¢ right now for $99.98. It comes with eleven mini-figs and droids, and about a billion pieces. (I made that up, about the billion pieces. But it has a lot of pieces—over 1,600.)
For comparison, the same set is currently available at Amazon for $122.11.
Lego is currently offering free shipping on all orders of $99+, so the Sandcrawler ships for free, too.
Five pounds of Star Wars Lego nirvana, people. Someone is going to be very happy to get this.
