Pottery Barn for the rest of us

Like many of you, I suspect, I love to look around at Pottery Barn and PB Kids and drool over just about everything. But then I look at the prices and I go into cardiac arrest and I end up never buying anything, on account of I need some money left over to pay the mortgage. Ahem.

But the good news is that they often have pretty good sales. Like right now—PB Kids is having a Gear and Accessories Sale, and most of the sale stuff ships for free. Check out the hot/cold food containers in various adorable patterns. These containers are usually $19 + shipping (you know, for packing your kid macaroni and gold flakes, I guess), but right now they’re a much more reasonable $7.99 and ship for free.

And that’s good news, because we’re all out of gold flakes.

Cereal deals for Sue (who is pretty)

So I got an email this morning from Sue, who is a regular reader and also unbelievably pretty. Sue is so pretty, she has checked in with her local food bank to verify that she can snag some Amazon cereal deals and ship directly to them, rather than having to go out comparison shopping and then drop off her finds. I think this is a fantastic idea and I am now doodling “Sue” inside pink hearts in the margins of my notebook.

My suggestion for Sue is that she start with the current Kellogg’s deal on Amazon, wherein qualifying cereals are an extra 10% off with coupon code KELBTSII and then, of course, buying via Subscribe & Save gets you another 15% off and free shipping. (New to S&S? Learn about it here.)

The best bang-for-the-buck I spot from that assortment: Frosted Bite-Size Mini-Wheats and Frosted Little Chocolate Mini-Wheats both come out to about $7.74 for 4 big boxes, or just under $2/box. I’m also seeing 4 big boxes of Raisin Bran not listed on the main page, there (but coupon-eligible), for around the same price.

There’s no product picture available, but Mom’s Best Hot Cereal, Maple and Brown Sugar is currently down to $7.14 for 6 boxes—that’s 30 servings of high-quality oatmeal. (That one is not available for Subscribe & Save, but at just over a buck a box, it’s hard to complain.)

Hopefully that gives you a few ideas, Sue. Rock on with your awesome self.

Hey kid, learn to love your letters

I’m loving today’s Kids.Woot deal—it’s three different alphabet-themed sets from Melissa and Doug for just about $30 shipped, or about 40% off the regular price if you bought the pieces separately.

Would I be above buying this set, then breaking it up for three separate gifts for the little ones I love? No, I would not. What you do with them is your own business, of course.

Get a few last-minute items from Office Depot

This one may not work for long; I’m just warning you.

Office Depot will always ship orders to your house for free if you buy $50+ worth (and live in their delivery area). But if you only need a package of pens or just under $50 worth or whatever, $10 to ship it is kind of a drag.

Right now they’re running a special where every order that includes printer ink or related items ships for free, regardless of size. That includes this ink recycling box and label which is actually… free. Add that to your order with anything else and the shipping will be deducted at checkout.

I suspect this will be rectified in the near future, but for right now, if you want to order something small….

What’s cookin’, good-lookin’?

Want to make everyone think you’re an awesome cook? Wear a pretty apron. It works every time. It’s some weird little mind-bending thing where your guests see you slaving away in something pretty, and they’re primed for your food to be delicious.

That’s why I love Flirty Aprons, but they only have sales and specials occasionally. (Boo!) Today you can snag a $30 Groupon to Flirty Aprons for just $15 out-of-pocket, though. Then you can look fancy for less, and your food will taste even more delicious.

[Disclaimer: Buying an apron may not actually make your food taste more delicious. I am somewhat prone to hyperbole. But it’s worth trying, right?]

Join up, get $10 to spend

Today’s another one of those days where it pays to be a late adopter.

Today only, join Rue La La if you haven’t already, and they’ll put $10 in your account to spend.

And for the next three days, join Eversave and they‘ll give you $10 in your account, too.

If you’re already a member with one of both of these sites, well, no $10 for you. Just the knowledge that you’re ahead of the curve, I guess.

I’m on a stocking-stuffer roll today

I know, I know—it’s not even September yet, and I’m all “Christmas! Stockings!” I can’t help it if I’m already finding some great deals. Shop now, avoid the insanity later. I am totally going to cross-stitch that onto a pillow for my couch.

Anyway! Maybe you, like our family, do an extended family thing where everyone contributes stocking stuffers for the grownups, but then you’re always left trying to figure out what’s good for everyone. Might I suggest you pick up 10 mylar emergency blankets for just $8 shipped from Amazon? Everyone should have one of those in their glove box and/or first aid kit, and it’s the sort of thing you always think, “Oh, I should grab one of those” but you never get around to it.

Also, they’re normally $2-$4 apiece, so the price is certainly right.

Calling all D&D geeks

Whether you want to initiate a new generation into the dorkitude or help the nerd you love relive the glory days of totally geeky cartoon-dom, now you can snap up the entire animated Dungeons & Dragons series at Amazon for just $5.99. That’s 27 episodes of mythical mayhem and mischief! What an awesome stocking stuffer to say wow you are a giant nerd even now nostalgia is awesome.

You’ll have to provide your own 20-sided dice, though. Sorry.

For your favorite gentleman

This one won’t be to everyone’s taste, I know, but I just had to tell you about it: Today at Tanga, they have the Forgetful Gentleman letterpress correspondence system available for just $34 shipped. (For reference, Forgetful Gentleman sells this set for $75 plus shipping.)

Basically this is a super-classy stationery set for guys, and it also includes a guy’s guide to writing classy notes and gives them access to an online program that will remind them of pertinent events like birthdays and such—they can even set it up to send them text message reminders. This is a perfect graduation gift for your favorite young man, or a perfect “get it together and grow some manners” gift for your favorite older guy. Heh.

I actually got to check this out for Daily Grommet a while back and was very impressed with the company and the product itself. This price is really a steal.

Fido and Fluffy will thank you

Longtime readers know I’m something of a fanatic when it comes to food for both my kids and my dog. I know a lot of folks are happy with cheap dog food, but as someone who adopted a dog who was in poor health due to food allergies, I’m willing to shell out a little more to keep her happy and healthy.

(Nowadays, her coat is so shiny! Her skin smooth and un-itchy! Her walk so springy! Her life so incredibly spoiled!)

Today only, PerCareRx is shipping pet food orders of $35+ (and less than 35 lbs) for free, even though food is usually excluded from their shipping specials.

All varieties of Taste of the Wild dog food (including our current favorite) are already discounted, so with the free shipping it’s a great deal on a premium 6-star food. And there’s very little I like more than a deal on dog food where I don’t have to lug the bag home myself.
