Saturday deals

I think I’ve finally figured out that I should just not promise to do anything on Friday afternoons. I keep promising you winners and then being attacked by ridiculous things like my job and my children. Hmph. But! Winners later today, I promise for real, as well as some weekend goodies.

In the meantime: Let’s shop.

This weekend only, you can use coupon code OCT15OFF to take 15% off your highest-priced item at Diapers.com, though it excludes diapers, formula, closeouts, and a few different high-end brands. Assuming you can find something you want that it’ll work on, it may be a handy deal. (And don’t forget that you’ll get free shipping on $25+ if you throw something from Soap.com into your shared cart!)

Feeling sporty? Eastbay is your source for athletic gear of all kinds, and this weekend only, they’re offering 25% off your $99+ order with coupon code LKS1TCE3. This is a great way to get the equipment your kids need along with the branded shoes/hoodies/whatever they insist they’ve “just gotta” have.

Need an excuse to shop at Macy’s today? Happy to oblige! Today if you purchase a $5 “Shop for a Cause” ticket you’ll not only be supporting charities like Feeding America, you’ll save an additional 10% or 20% on your entire purchase. If you have a lot of shopping to do (or have your eye on a big-ticket item), this one’s a no-brainer.

If you have a beloved GPS unit but have trouble (like me) securing it to your windshield, check out this HandStands sticky pad dash mount that’s just $9 shipped from Buy.com; it sits on your dashboard and you connect your GPS mount to it, rather than getting circles all over your windshield. Plus, it’s wide enough that you can set your cell phone next to it and it (magically!) stays put.

The holidays will soon be upon us, and let me tell you, you could do a lot worse than a 16″ x 20″ gallery-wrapped canvas of your favorite photo, particularly if you scoop up today’s Boston Groupon and get it for $45 delivered instead of the $130ish it usually costs. (The year we gave my mother-in-law a canvas of all the grandkids was a total win, by the way.)

And if you’re not sick of Old Navy yet, they’re doing a spend more, save more promotion: coupon code ONLOVE30 takes off as much as 30%, but starts at 20% off your $100+ purchase.

So many deals, so little time….

Hey hey, Friday

Goooood morning! The sun is shining, the birds are singing— wait. Hang on. The sun is actually not shining, not yet, because it’s still dark out. Huh. Well, I guess this is just a case of having faith that it will be shining later. Look at me, I’m an optimist!

Maybe I should just stick to the deals.

Over at Children’s Place, they’ve marked the final Fall Clearance items down to just $4.99 apiece. Coupon code SORRY is still working for 20% off, too.

The only thing I can find that might be worth buying in today’s Amazon Friday Sale is this 2-pack of Barefoot Contessa Ultimate Chocolate Cake and Buttercream Frosting Mix. Now, even after Subscribe & Save it’s still $16.15 for two complete cakes, which feels like a lot for boxed mix, but I believe in Ina Garten’s ability to turn food into magic, so I just may bite on this one. (Get it, bite? Ha!) (And no, obviously this is not gluten-free. I would just buy it for my family and watching them eat it. And maybe cry a little.)

Also at Amazon, you can pre-order the entire Shrek Collection on Blu-ray for $45, if that’s your sort of thing. The price is already well below suggested retail, plus if it goes any lower before release, you’ll get the lower price. And you get a $4 on-demand video credit with purchase. Or if you give your kids Flintstones vitamins, check out that 3-pack; it’s just under $7 from Amazon (look in the “More Buying Choices” column).

Shuffle off to the Buffalo Groupon (it’s a side deal—look in the right sidebar) to scoop up $40 to Igourmet if you missed this deal the last time. (Two words, people: Cheese. Wheel.)

Got reusable bottles? Buy.com has a 2-pack of stainless steel eco-canteens for just $10 shipped, today. (As much as I love our Siggs, I wish I’d held out for wide-mouthed bottles like these so that we could add ice easily.)

And finally, winter boots are up to 70% off today at 6pm.com, which is almost enough to make me wish I still lived in New England. Ahahahahaha! No, it doesn’t. Sorry.

This afternoon I will have Lee jeans winners for you, and who knows what else. Come on back!

Another reason Prime is dangerous

It’s true; as soon as I get signed up for Amazon Prime for the holidays, I end up spending more money than I would, otherwise. It’s a conundrum, wrapped up in an enigma, shipped in a box with airpaks. Heh.

Anyway, I need a new wrist rest for my computer setup here in my office. And I found this one. At $3.64 shipped, it’s no problem, plus I don’t have to get up to $25 for free shipping. And it’s for my office and to keep my wrists healthy, right? Totally justifiable.

Just like the chocolate I bought this morning. Oops! I’ve said too much.

You don’t even have to be gluten-free

I am a big fan of specials on gluten-free foods, obviously, because I no longer eat wheat. But there’s no need to be gluten-free to enjoy many of the things I get excited about, because you probably already eat and enjoy plenty of foods that don’t contain gluten.

So. Have you checked out the current General Mills Gluten-Free products on special at Amazon? There’s things like granola bars and Chex cereals. Save 15% with coupon code GENMILGF, then save another 15% and get free shipping when you buy via Subscribe & Save.

And, um, it’s possible that I stock up on Chocolate Chex to make snacky trail mix for the kids, then sometimes eat a big bowl of it when no one’s home. But you can’t prove it.

This is the good stuff

There’s the chocolate you give the kids, and then the chocolate you keep for yourself. Preferably on a high shelf, hidden.

Today Amazon has a 24-pack of 3 oz Scharffen Berger bars available for $19.46—that’s just over $.80/bar for chocolate that normally costs $4/bar. I don’t know why this is marked down, but I do know this is going to sell out very quickly.

A quick note about rebates

I was filling out a rebate form the other day and my daughter asked what I was doing, then proclaimed, “That’s stupid. If they’re just going to give you the money back, they should just sell the stuff for less, up front!” (That’s my girl.)

The thing is, the reason companies don’t do that is because they’re hoping you’ll forget to send the rebate in, or you’ll fill it out incorrectly so they can refuse it, or you’ll fill it out properly and get your refund but then forget to either cash the check or use the card you receive. Sneaky.

So. Don’t give those sneaky companies the satisfaction. When you buy something with a rebate (say, a laminator, toothbrush, or some cases of paper, to name a few recent deals), fill out the rebate as soon as possible, follow all directions, make copies of everything, and then send them in immediately.

Some people don’t get their rebate money, but you are way too pretty for that.

It almost makes me wish for a baby

I have a thing for babies. They’re adorable! They wear wee, squee-tastic clothing! But they keep me from sleeping, which is why two was my limit. Now I will just have to snoogle your baby whenever I need a fix.

Be that as it may, right now Diapers.com is offering up to 40% off their huge assortment of positively ovary-achingly-cute Halloween costumes for little ones. It’s like they’re trying to incapacitate me with baby lust.

And don’t forget—shipping is free on your $49+ order, but add anything from Soap.com to your shared cart and reach a total of $25+, and that’ll ship for free, too. (If that isn’t the greatest excuse you’ve ever heard to grab a tube of toothpaste or something, I don’t know what is.)

So go ahead; dress your baby in something ridiculous. Then bring him over here. I promise to only nibble on him a little.

The Groupon goodies keep on coming

Remember when Groupon was all “Local deals for your area!” and we all kind of said, “Oh, okay.” And then they had a national deal and we all said, “Oh yeah, this is awesome!” And now I cannot possibly keep track of all the national deals they offer, which is both good and bad because 1) I like to save money but 2) I am spending entirely too much time and money on Groupon, these days.

It’s hard, being me. Honestly.

Anyway, here’s some of today’s national deals:
Washington D.C.‘s Groupon is $75 to Picaboo for just $25.
Miami‘s Groupon is $75 to Barclay’s Wine for just $25.
Chicago‘s Groupon is $115 to Photobook America for just $35.
Denver‘s Groupon is $35 to Fancy Fortune Cookies for just $15.

That’s just a few of ’em. Part of me thinks that Groupon is taking over the world, and another part of me is completely okay with that. Hmmm.

Be a real ogre

If you have a little Shrek or Fiona on the premises, you should definitely check out today’s Target Daily Deals for half-price costumes (shipped free, remember). You could take care of Halloween in one fell swoop.

Of course, they also have an adult (and kind of… sexy?) Twister costume, which confuses me a little, and 30% off a toddler ladybug costume. But the real winner—in my twisted opinion—is the featured dog costume. My dog would love it if I dressed her up as a taco, don’t you think? (Of course, then I clicked through the other dog costumes and laughed myself silly. If I get her a costume, I may have to go for the squirrel one. She’ll be chasing herself all night!)
