Saturday deals

Goood morning! I am still trying to shake off The Cold That Will Not Go, but that’s why God made laptops and extra pillows, right? Right! Let’s see what Saturday has to offer.

If you didn’t scoop up some granola bars earlier this week, the big back-to-school snack savings at Amazon are still going on, now with even deeper discounts, so take a look. Use code GMBOXTOP for an extra 15% off already reduced prices. I see a bunch of options for 72 granola bars for just $12 shipped (crazy).

This weekend is your last chance to shop the Fall sale at Children’s Place and use coupon code G2C2010 for an additional 15% off.

Alternatively, check out the maternity and baby sale at Old Navy this weekend to save up to 40% and get free shipping on $100. Or shop everything else and use coupon code ONSAVE20 for 20% off $100+.

Of course one of the deals at 6pm.com this weekend is up to half off Rykas, because I just bought new workout shoes last week and paid… well, not half off. Hmph. You’re welcome! (I do love Rykas, though—if you’re looking for fitness shoes, they’re awesome. I bought the Flare Runs, which are 30% off at 6pm today, and I love them. Just remember to go up half a size with Rykas because they run small.) They’re also featuring discounts on Nike, Pump, KangaROOs, Bandolino, Cole Haan, and more.

The Target Daily Deals are playing a game of None Of These Things Are Like The Other, today. So if you need a diaper cake, leggings, or a fire pit, that’s the place to be. (But if you need all of those things, I’m a little worried about you.) Also, just a friendly reminder: Leggings are not pants. Just sayin’.

Today only, Ann Taylor Loft is offering 30% off any full-price order with coupon code LOFTSTYLE30. Plus, you’ll get $25 to spend for every $50 you spend, and shipping is free.

Have you checked out Groupon lately? Deep discounts on businesses in your area, and my newest frugal crush. Love.

That should keep you busy for a while, yes? I may need to check out that Loft sale, myself…. (And yes, I still owe you winners! And I think we’ll have a weekend contest, too. Why not!)

Friday follies

Know what would be funny? If I got up this morning and there was no coffee and I had a gross cold and everyone overslept. That would be hilarious. And by “hilarious” I mean “truly aggravating” with a side of “no, I really don’t want to talk about it.” Hopefully your Friday is going better than mine.

Anyway! I am never too sick to shop. Thank goodness. Let’s see what the day holds for us.

Continuing in my “Fall will be here any day” delusions from yesterday, today I can go shop 6pm.com and peruse the pages and pages of boots they have on sale. Okay; if you’re not ready to buy boots, they’re also having a sneaker blowout this weekend.

Whoa, the featured deal in today’s Target Daily Deals is a selection of summer dresses on a buy 1, get 1 free special. I’m all over that.

Oh, Amazon Friday Sale, you and your wacky endless K-cup deals. No one drinks that much coffee, Amazon. Not even me. Though I suppose the variety of Crayons soda alternatives on sale today for $13 per 24-pack is a decent deal for folks who want a soda-like treat for the kids that isn’t loaded with chemicals and HFCS.

Have you been wanting a panini press? (This is the sort of thing I would’ve drooled over, back when I could still eat bread….) Right now Buy.com has a refurbished Cuisinart 4-in-1 grill/griddle/panini press for just $50 shipped, vs. the $88.50 it’ll cost you new over at Amazon (click through to check out the reviews, though, because it seems like a pretty good unit).

And if that made you hungry, you should know that the end-of-summer half-price sale at Omaha Steaks is on. Just in case you need some food that comes packed in dry ice.

I’ll have this week’s contest winners for you a bit later on, but right now I have to either go find some coffee or go back to bed. You understand.

Someday it will be cool again

I have this little game I like to play with myself in September, ever since I moved to Georgia. It’s called the “I choose to believe that any day now it is going to stop being in the 90s every darn day” game. It’s delusional, and I like it.

Nevertheless, Fall will arrive eventually. And when it does, I shall triumphantly bust out my fluffy duvet, ready for cozy nights cuddled up with my husband, when he turns to me and whispers seductively, “Must you put your freezing cold feet on me, really?” (Don’t be jealous!)

Anyway. I’ve been shopping for a new duvet cover, because our old one is finally ready to retire. So I was just browsing the duvet cover sets at Overstock and totally impressed with the variety of options they have (at totally affordable prices). Maybe you need a new duvet, too? Most of them are one price for any size, which is a particularly good deal if you have a king-sized bed.

And now I’m ready for the Fall that may or may not ever arrive.

An edge-of-your-seat boxed set

If you haven’t yet read Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games trilogy, what are you waiting for? The final book came out a couple of weeks ago, so I bought the entire set so that I could catch up while my daughter devoured the finale. I don’t know why I waited so long.

Now, the reason I bring this up is because today’s Daily Deals at Barnes and Noble include a boxed set of the Hunger Games trilogy for $27 shipped, which is $4 less than the current Amazon price, and a great gift for the avid reader in your life.

Please be advised, however, that though these books are consistently listed in the Children’s section, I would call them Young Adult at the very least. (Honestly? I think they’re just as riveting for adults.) These books are dark and dystopian and not for little kids. Please don’t buy them and give them to your third grader and then come back and yell at me, is my point.

But absolutely do buy them for the disgruntled teen in your life. They may well change his or her opinion of what “life is hard” means.

Now the only thing you need…

… is the syrup to go with your waffles. Right? Because you bought some mix last week, and now we’ve talked about waffle irons.

Heh.

Right now you can get a 32-ounce jug of Coombs Family Farms maple syrup from Amazon for just under $16, shipped. Just use coupon code CMBSO9IO for 5% off and then buy via Subscribe & Save for another 15% off and free shipping.

I have a jug of this in my fridge right now—it’s my favorite syrup. I weep for my misspent youth, when I thought syrup came from Mrs. Butterworth’s. Bleah. If you’re still eating corn-syrup-laden concoctions and fear the price tag here, don’t; when you’re using real syrup, you use a lot less. I really think the comparable price ends up being about the same, and this is so much better for you than the fake stuff (both because you end up eating less sugar and because it’s all-natural).

Great. Now I want pancakes….

Wild about waffles

Last week I highlighted a deal on pancake mix, and much to my surprise, several of you took the opportunity in the comments to tell me that you’re looking for a good waffle maker.

I totally understand the conundrum, here: On the one hand, a waffle maker is a specialty item, something you’re only going to use occasionally (unless you’re this guy), and it seems pointless to spend a lot on it. On the other hand, cheap waffle makers are worse than not having one at all—they not only produce a disgusting result, but they make a mess and are really hard to clean. So. What do you do?

After consulting several experts (read: I spent some quality time with my dear friend, the Google), I’ve discovered that there are several outlandlishly expensive waffle irons out there that people love (example A: this one). But if you want an iron at a decent price that actually works, I think I’ve ferreted out your best choices.

If you want a Belgian-style iron, get the Presto 3510 (currently $39ish shipped, with a four-and-a-half stars rating). If you’d rather get a traditional-style iron, go for the Black and Decker G48TD (currently $36ish shipped, with a four star rating). Neither of these will break the bank, and I’m not altogether convinced that a $200+ iron would be that much better, either.

I kind of want to borrow your cat

Did you know that Amazon has a whole FURminator Store? It’s true! I’m mesmerized. Those videos of animals being brushed out and producing entire clouds of hair are endlessly fascinating to me.

My dog has hair, so she doesn’t shed. I’m suddenly feeling a little deprived. And like maybe I should get a cat. (Sure, I’m allergic, but the cat FURminator is currently under $9!)

It’s possible that I need professional help. I’m aware.

You’re not buying used, you’re saving the planet

I do most of my music shopping through iTunes, these days, but every now and then I want an actual CD. Or sometimes I want a movie. And then I turn to the places where I know I can buy pre-owned discs for cheap.

Two options to check out, today: First, FYE is currently offering a buy 2, get 1 free on used CDs and DVDs with code USEDB2G1FAG. (Though if you must buy new, use code 10HTBH55 for $10 off your $55+ purchase.) Shipping there is free on $30+.

Second, Second Spin is offering 20% off your $20+ purchase of CDs/DVDs with coupon code SSAG29, right now.

Both are great ways not just to save money, but to feel morally superior and planet-friendly. Trees love it when you feel morally superior!

John Cleese 4ever

If you’re a tried and true Monty Python fan (and if you’re not, I don’t want to know), you’ll want to hurry and scoop up The Complete Monty Python’s Flying Circus at Amazon for just $35 shipped. It’s nearly 30 hours worth of viewing that will make you and your significant other laugh and laugh while your kids go, “Huh?”

At least, that’s how it happens in my house. I think it adds to the experience, really.

(Pssst! you also get $4 of credit towards Amazon Video on Demand, too, so that’s like getting it for $31! Even better!)
