Please check your coffeemaker

Good morning! Hey, remember that fabulous deal way back when, when a bunch of us picked up Senseo coffeemakers on the cheap? If you have one, please go to this page and follow the instructions to figure out if your machine is affected by a voluntary recall Philips is conducting.

My machine came up as being on the recall list. The good news is, they’re going to replace it for free, so thumbs up for customer service. The bad news is that I guess I’ll be drinking tea while they do….

Can’t sleep, android Cookie Monster will eat me

I know that the last time this was on sale, I may have gently pointed out that I find it a bit… odd-looking… in that subtle way that I have. You know, maybe something like, “OH MY GOSH I think it’s coming to suck my brains, look out!!

Nevertheless, $9.90 for K’Nex Cookie Monster and Hooper’s Store is a good buy, even if he does look like part of the future robot army designed to tell you on exactly which latitude and longitude you can lock in coordinates for Sesame Street.

No, really. I’m sure little kids will find it much less freaky than I do.

(Once again, bonus points for you if you get the title reference.)

A new code is a new excuse to buy

At long last, there’s a new coupon code for The Children’s Place. Hooray! (Not that I’m shopping. I’m not. Still spending some “special time” with my checkbook. Ahem.)

Anyway, through May 10th, 2009, use code SA249 to take 15% off your order. There’s plenty on sale, and shipping is (as always) a flat $5 for your entire order.

If you need some fancy duds for later on this season, be sure to check out the Easter leftovers—plenty of pretty dresses and such available for very reasonable prices. Or so I’m sure I would think, if I was shopping.

Don’t say Uncle Sam never gave you anything

Hey, it’s tax day! I’ll bet you’d totally forgotten, right? (Unless, like me, you’re self-employed and kind of awful at estimating your payments, in which case it is appropriate to mark today with weeping and the rending of garments.)

If you have any money left (hahaha! see how I use humor to defuse the despair?), today’s your lucky day—because for one day only, The Company Store is offering 20% off with coupon code T9DTAX. (It doesn’t work on clearance, sadly, or Charisma items or gift cards. But it should work on everything else, and at Company Kids, too.) But it’s only valid today (April 15th, 2009), so get shopping if you want in.

I’ll just be over here in the corner, administering CPR to my checkbook. Don’t mind me.

Try out the big box life

I don’t do the warehouse club thing, but primarily because I’m lazy and cheap and paying a membership fee doesn’t seem worth it now that I’m not buying diapers by the case anymore.

If you’ve been wondering if the warehouse life is for you, why not try it out for free? You can go print out this coupon and—once activated at the store—you can shop BJ’s Wholesale for two entire months without paying a membership fee.

That’s a great way to try it out, or just to stock up on a few things on the cheap.

Hey, actual Power Hours

I never really know what it means when Kohls claims to be having Power Hours, and then it’s something that’s going on all day. I’m just saying.

But until 5:00 p.m. Eastern today, you can go shop and use coupon code FIVEHRSONLY to take 15% off your order—whether you have a Kohls card or not! Shipping is currently a flat $4.99 for your entire order, or Kohls card holder can also use code MVC8830 for free shipping.

Hurry up, there’s only a few hours left! And then it could be days before Kohls has another sale! Heh.

I dream of sleeping

Sleeping is on my top five list of favorite things to do that I don’t get to actually do nearly often enough. That would be kind of admirable if I was a neurosurgeon, or something, but as it is… well, let’s just pretend it’s not pitiful.

When I do sleep, though, it must be on cotton sheets with a reasonable thread count. That I got on sale (natch). Like these 400 thread count cotton sheets, available in a variety of colors for either king or queen beds, for around $25 or $28. That’s my kind of deal.

Now if only I could buy the extra free time to sleep on them for longer….

Buy.com, I can’t quit you

If you’ve ever bought anything from Buy.com, you get put on their mailing list for daily hot items. And I find that combing through this list each day is probably way more fun for me than it ought to be. Sometimes, there’s nothing, but other times, it feels like I won at a treasure hunt.

I saw two items of note this morning: First, this Uniden cordless phone set. I know we had one of these recently at the $40 price point, but this one is notable because—in addition to an answering machine and three handsets—one of the handsets is waterproof. Pool season is coming! (And it’s never a good season to drop your phone in the bathtub, either, so there you go.)

Second, today they’re offering the Magellan Roadmate 1412 GPS for $79.99 shipped, and this unit has Text To Speech, which is really hard to find for under a hundred bucks.

Both of these items are refurbished, but I prefer to think of them as being double-checked and cheap. You’re welcome.

Let someone else do the cooking

I don’t know about you, but I feel like I spent the entire last week cooking. And that’s really weird, because as I looked in the fridge this morning, all I could think was, “There’s nothing to eat.”

It’s the eternal conundrum.

But if I lose my battle with dinner planning, tonight, I can take the family out to eat on the cheap. Why? (All together now!) Because it’s Restaurant.com time again! Through April 20th, 2009, you can use coupon code FEAST to take 70% off your restaurant certificate purchase. That means $25 worth of dining for just $3 out of your pocket, which is $22 you didn’t have to spend because you’re so smart (and pretty). Yay!

Another way to stock the pantry

When I cruise Amazon for grocery deals, I always look for something that’s already been marked down, and then has some sort of special offer running on top of that. When a discount allows you to combine different kinds of foods, so much the better. But I have to confess that—as much as I dig this deal—I’m mystified. For some reason, right now at Amazon if you buy $29+ worth of qualifying Ka-Me or Mi-del foods, you can use coupon code PANOS555 to save an additional $10. (Don’t forget that Subscribe & Save, when available, will save you another 15%, too. So, for example, these 100% whole wheat graham crackers are just $22.64 delivered for 12 boxes, which is a significant savings off of regular retail.)

Are these two brands owned by the same company? I guess they must be. I just find the combination of natural snacks and Asian convenience foods a bit odd. But I’ll take the deals! (Pssst—if you’re unfamiliar with Mi-Del, they make a lot of gluten-free snacks. They’re a great brand for those of you with celiac.)

Enjoy your, um, noodles and cookies.
